  1. i have a feeling it's kemo's old ceffie! just a hunch!
  2. sooooooooooooo.... what the hell is it burnsie!?
  3. lol okok and YOU forgot line 8 - buy wagers lol
  4. ummm 1 - replace my motor 2 - oil cooler 3 - fix up the paint on my front bar that's all i can think of
  5. it's developing a rebuild history as good as any rotor these days lol
  6. seriously AndyMac, if that is your real name go take your stupid stinking rx7 elsewhere! lol ps the lol was there so I didn't get a warning from duncan.
  7. my mother has GAINED more demerit points than me i always do what you do though, I get 3 deducted (from being good) and then I gain 3 (from being bad) and it's a cycle, but I always maintain 9 demerit points lol
  8. gold plated engine?
  9. I say stick with the sr20 iotuib for the 180 and part out the gtr ps. can I have your engine to put into my 180? lol
  10. yeah i know and I'm not arguing with you richard but I want to pick up on a few errors.. but I'm not arguing the result.. just how you got there if that makes sense? lol NOT THE CASE! I was not advised of metal. As dumb as it sounds, I didn't even think of it! No, the oil was not drained and a magnetic filter was not fitted at this stage. NOT THE CASE! I did not know there was metal through the engine UNTIL I picked up the car. If EVERYONE knows it's a symptom of bad damage, why didn't my mechanic? No I was not aware of that. Trent only mentioned that Metal Particles were a concern AFTER it was tuned. no worries if this was the case, but I was told that the noise was there when he put it on with the stock ecu. Most people here aren't understanding that what was said earlier, isn't actually the case and that's what I've been finding frustrating.
  11. I thought I made what I wanted to know very clear several times? My question is answered now, which was, what is the duty of care here.. The comments in this thread re-inforced what I was thinking and cleared up a bit of the mechanical mumbo jumbo. Bottom line is, the car should never have seen the dyno after a mechanic seeing metal shavings coming out of the engine prior and hearing the "death" rattle.
  12. happy birthday ashhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! hope you had a good one! Liz.
  13. lol that is really really odd
  14. Again, you've missed the point. He never said... "I shouldn't tune this". When I first went there he said "There is an issue here, I think it's blocked oil squirters, I want to fix that before I tune it" then he solved the problem by replacing all those bits. But after that, I went back still slightly paranoid about the noisey lifters and left it with him to fix and tune if everything was ok. That was the last I heard until I called a week later to see how he was going. Even on the phone he didn't say anything about bearing failure, I even got to take the car out for a test and nothing was said before I jumped behind the wheel. That is correct. He didn't call.
  15. kk. settle down lol perhaps it's just the mis-communication that's the issue here.............it's just screamed sussness from the word go! that's all! I will do some further digging though because (as you can tell) I'm still not confident that all care was taken here!
  16. yeah it does a bit, thanks! but i have more questions.. sorry (pls stay around).. and some of them I don't expect you to answer but I'm putting them out there, yet again.. I don't understand how the bottom end problem isn't linked to the metal from the top end?? Judging the by the comments in this thread, everyone is pretty confident that this engine was f**ked because of the metal shavings and oil blockage to the bottom end. I specifically asked about the oil to the bottom end considering the possible blockage to the head and I was advised that it wouldn't affect it. I forget the reasoning (I wrote it down so I'll get it tomorrow) but can someone answer this for me? I understand that everyone thinks the right thing was done to save the motor, and if could have been done HOWEVER I was told that the first run (ie the pre-tune figure under std ecu) uncovered the problem yet the car was still tuned following that. NOT what was stated earlier in this thread. I was also told of the bearing failure AFTER it had been tuned and AFTER this test drive I did. It's only when I started prying into the matter that the story is coming out in full which to me, screams like a mistakes been made.
  17. oh shit. I've been found out! OK GUYS, THE SCAM IS OVER.. SOMEONE HAS BLOWN MY COVER! honestly...one more time for the loser up the back. the tuner KNEW there was a bearing problem, he told me there was metal shavings in the motor.. but he still tuned it anyway.
  18. yeah but that directly contradicts what I was told when i started asking questions...
  19. No offence taken Tez! That's the first thing I said to Trent when I started asking questions....I know my car has had a hard life and I don't want to be one of these people that claim a built on someone if it's not their fault! But when some fairly basic questions uncovered some fairly obvious issues, I started questioning more and more.
  20. guys - perhaps you didn't read what I was posted. So none of you think that it's 1 - wrong to tune an engine which you know has metal all through it. 2 - advise the owner of the risks involved in tuning it 3 - and no one things it's dodgy that I wasn't told of this issue until AFTER I had taken the keys and taken it for a test drive? 4 - If it was rattlying PRIOR on the first run, with the stock computer, whcih is what I was told, why on earth was it pushed!?!? 5 - does no one think that it's odd that what I was told is different to what I've been told in this thread? I'm not saying "OMG THIS WORKSHOP HAS f**kED MY MOTOR IT'S ALL THEIR FAULT!".. I'm saying that he owned me a duty of care to let me know the risks involved.. they knowingly did something that would kill my motor. THAT is what I'm concerned about.
  21. how has he prolonged it's life? i dont get it?
  22. i didn't even get to go out with a bang
  23. yeah might just just another stock engine in..... or will i ? then if everyone else here is aware of the consequences of tuning the motor with metal in it, why didn't my tuner make me aware of what would happen? that's all I'm saying.. perhaps if he had communicated exactly what he said here I wouldn't be quite so suss about everything as what was posted here isn't what I was told.. perhaps he forgot. If it had died mid-tune as you mentioned earlier, why didn't you just tell me that, I'm pretty damn trusting (even too trusting) when it comes to mechanics, but when i hear something that isn't quite right, I am suss as.
  24. Sorry you feel like I'm setting you up Trent.. but to be honest (as you know) it's not a topic I know alot about and what you said to me didn't make sense so I'm a bit suss now.. hence starting this thread to get the opinion of the wider audience. I'm yet to hear enough that satisfies my mind that everything was done properly, perhaps communication is the key here because it's only (after the test drive) where I was told about this! I find it a bit off putting and it makes it look like there is something hidden. If you were worried about metal shavings, you should have called me and given me the opportunity to say, don't tune it rather than go ahead as from waht you told me, it was rattling on the first run but you made the decision to tune it.
  25. there is no warranty when it comes to performance work? since when!!!? They don't have insurance for nothing! You're a tuner right? Is what you're saying that when you tune a motor and it pops, you wash your of it and take no responsibility at all? Love your ethics! The way I see it is if you go to a reputable tuner, he should have the knowledge of how these things work so if something goes pop, then he can say he did absolutely everthing he could to stop it! If a tuner can't work out what will make the motor fail, it seems to be a pretty fundamental requirement of a tuner, no? I don't expect a tuner to tell me when an oil pump is going to fail, but something like bearing failure after tuning a motor knowing it has metal shavings in it, in my opinion is not giving me the proper duty of care. Taking a care off the dyno and saying "I won't tune this, it has metal shavings in it" is giving hte proper duty of care.
