Am unsure of that. I can’t hear it as it can only be heard through the knock sensor. I assume he will have only done runs with it under load, but probably better to assume it makes it all the time. What were you thinking?

Hey guys i made a post in the past about a strange noise my motor has been making on the dyno. It is only heard through the knock sensor when listening in to it, and starts bang on 5krpm and stops around 5.5k every run without fail. Almost sounds like a very fast ‘ddrrddrrddrrddrr’ (best way i can describe the noise on here). Cannot be heard just listening normally. The ECU is picking this noise up and pulling timing occasionaly because of it, but me and my tuner are stumped as to what it is. It appears to be coming from somewhere in the head area of the motor (at least thats what it sounds like). I’m coming here to look for advice on where to look. The cambelt has just been done with all new pulleys is etc, and has been done properly as I was lead to believe that could be a potential culprit. Disabling the VCT does not affect it, noise is there whether that is on or not. Has anyone else had experience with this or any advice on what it could be? Tuner is thinking it may be my intake cam gear, but has never heard of them failing before. Should also add compression is fantastic on all 6 cylinders, and car only has 105,000kms. Any advice and input is much appreciated!

Will do! Any idea where I can source one of these from? Or do I just use normal washers? As a side note, i've been lead to believe that the previous owner lied to me and that the cambelt has not been done. Inspection of the belt is showing marks that shouldn't be there. So either the cambelt hasn't been changed, or it has but the tension has been set incorrectly. Am going to do the cambelt again with a new idler, tensioner, waterpump and seals. Hopefully this remedies the issue... Thanks heaps for the advice so far! Will update afterwards :).

Timing belt appears to be okay. May have to pull the cover off AGAIN and check the pulleys, but they looked fine at a quick glance. It was done recently.

So i’ve taken the CAS off and inspected it. Couldn’t see anything funny but there was some scoring on the part the CAS bolts into (see photos). Cambelt didn’t seem overtight and was replaced at a Nissan dealer so assume that’s not the culprit. Does this scoring look normal? Also couldn’t see any rubbing marks on the cover. Thanks heaps for the help so far

I believe i'm currently running Fully synthetic 10w40. Just did an oil change less than 500kms ago. Are you meaning the gudgeon pin that holds the piston to the rod? @AngryRB i'l give that a whirl this weekend and hopefully I have some luck!

Were your noises audible through just listening from outside the motor? As my biggest issue is that I cant actually hear anything... May take the cover off though and see if it is rubbing or something of the sort.

I tried giving that a shot, but holding the car at 5krpm made it super hard to actually hear anything over my exhaust :c. Couldn't really distinguish anything with the rpm that high unfortunately

The cambelt was done at around 90thousand. He's told me he doesn't think it's cambelt related as its a more metal-on-metal type noise. I did suggest the cambelt to him but he didn't seem to think so. Although a tensioner/idler would make sense for a metal noise. I'm unsure if the belt is a genuine Nissan one i'l have to check. Is there a way to diagnose if one of the idlers is the culprit, or the VCT gears? He seemed pretty adamant that my VCT was not the culprit either. I was planning on taking the front cover off and having a look. But you can only hear this noise when listening in through the sensor, making it immensely difficult to pinpoint and diagnose. I don't want to go replacing components just for there to be a "chance" of it fixing. Any ideas of how to narrow this down? Or check if any of your suggestions could be the cause?

Hi guys - Apologies if this is the wrong section So recently had my R34 GTT tuned running an RB25DET neo. Tuner said that at around 5000rpm he can hear a noise when listening in through the knock sensor. The ECU is picking it up as knock sometimes but it isn't actually knock. He said its almost a metal-on-metal sounding noise, and it starts at 5000rpm and dissapears at 5.5 every single time. Cannot hear it from outside the car, only when listening in through the knock sensor. I'm hoping for some help in narrowing down what it is. My dyno numbers are perfectly fine (will upload the sheet later tonight), power curve is stable etc. He believes it is something harmonic related as it is only at that RPM range. Have done runs with VCT disabled and it still makes it so that is not the culprit. He has suggested to me that it may be the intake cam gear although he's very rarely heard of them failing. My issue is they are a stupidly expensive part to replace for a "potential" fix. His other suggestions have been potential scoring on the cam lobes. Have you guys got any input on this? So noise starts every single run at basically dead on 5000rpm, stops at 5500. Almost a really fast " drdrdrdrdrdr" noise (best way i can describe it). One other thought by him was potentially a lifter. Unsure if this matters, but the car's running an S2 RB25DET neo, nistune ECU, 14psi boost, front mount, full exhaust, cold air intake. Car is also only 104,000kms. Car still drives perfectly fine and would have had no idea anything was making noise had he not told me. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hi guys Long story short, i'm wanting to get a front-lip for my R34 gtt, and discovered this image of one on a S1 front bumper. I am absolutely in love with this lip but cannot for the life of me find what it is called, let alone where to get one. Can anyone point me in the right direction to it, or a similar one? Also open to any other suggestions. Have tried everywhere to find out what the hell this lip is with no such luck!

R34 GTT Running Too Much Boost?
Dyzzii replied to Dyzzii's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I'm sure a Nistune would handle it perfectly fine too, but i'm kind of by the concept of "do it once do it right" and feel like a link would give me better results long-term. I'd likely upgrade the turbo and injectors down the line too -
Hi guys I have an R34 GTT and am concerned with the boost levels it's running. It has some basic bolt-ons including a front mount intercooler, full 3inch de-cat turboback exhaust, apexi pod filter and custom cold air intake. The stock 2-stage boost controller has also been grounded out. However I've been having issues with how much boost it's running. It's occasionally hitting the 1bar mark on the factory boost gauge, and it does not have a boost tap. I believe that was causing issues as the car had severe flat spots through the rpm range and was missfiring and spluttering occasionally on boost. I read up and unplugged the factory 2-stage controller and it now sits on 7psi constantly, which i'm much happier with. My 2 questions were, why/how is it boosting this much without a tap or controller, and could the missfire/break up I was getting on boost be because of the boost levels it was running? Feels fantastic on 7, and pulls properly the whole way to redline. Have checked and gapped my spark plugs to .85 too. Was planning on getting it tuned on a link ecu but just wanted to check for ideas here first about those two things. Thanks guys

Hey there guys. I’ve purchased some rims for my R34 GTT and think I may have gone too aggressive on the fitment. The fronts are 18x9 18p which i imagine should be ok, But i got 18x10 18p for the rear. Am I dreaming to fit a 255 tyre on those over the rear with stock guards? I’ve rolled the inner lips in but dont want to do a pump, and can’t do stretched tyres currently as I need to certify the wheels. Am I going to be able to get these to fit full stop or am I dreaming? Thanks
