Finding the right offset..
Ronin 09 replied to sidewaymambo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
sidewaymambo - the offset will be printed on the rim, cast somewhere into the rim. It may be on the back where it bolts onto the hub, usually something like 17 x 8JJ +30; the offset is the last figure (which may be negative) If you can get this, I may be able to help you figure your correct offset -
Finding the right offset..
Ronin 09 replied to sidewaymambo's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Hi guys, **Please note that this is my understanding, and could be COMPLETELY wrong** I don't know if this will add to your discussion, but I don't think wheel offsets are quite as simple as adding the difference between the offset of the existing wheel to the depth of the spacer plate. Only in the case of the exact wheel diameter and width (say 17x8) will this work correctly. Consider the diagram 1 below. Assume that the wheel diameter is 17”, width is 8”. The offset is the distance (in mm) from the centre line of the rim. Therefore in my shitty diagram, this rim has a positive offset of 35 mm. Inner edge of rim to centre line = 4” = 101.6mm therefore, the positive offset of 35mm will place the inner edge of the rim: 136.6mm from the hub. Now consider the second diagram, where I have upgraded to a 18” rim, width 10”. To ensure that the tyre (assuming that the rolling diameter remains the same as we have dropped the aspect ratio) does not foul the inner guard, or sit any closer to the inner guard (and also assuming that there is enough room at the outer guard to fit this big bastard), we calculate the offset as follows: Inner rim to centre line = 5” = 127mm Therefore, to maintain a overall inner rim to hub distance of 136.6mm We will need a positive offset of 9.6mm (say 10mm) However, in the real world, the inner guard will be able to swallow some of this additional rim width, so we may be able to go to a +/- 0 offset with the inner edge of the rim moving 10mm closer to the inner guard. So, if you bothered to read this far, and I’m wrong, don’t flame me too much. I actually thought this through a bit. Hope that adds to the discussion. PS sorry about the smudges – I am left handed! edit: the LHS of the pics is the inside of the wheel -
sorry mate we cutting the clock out (doesn't work) and putting the TT in its place

Awesome mate, thanks for the help and taking the time out to post a detailed reply. I've done both in my old R33 GTSt, to change to a GTR dash, and to install a new head unit. I figured it would be the same, but the plastic looks really fragile - didn't want to try and force it and break it. Will keep you posted, and do a DIY on the Trust turbo timer into an R32!

Hey Neil, pilfering a pic from the for sale section (thanks BB GoDZilLa), is the handbrake adjust hole you are talking about the little black cap with the flat head slot set into it? http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/at...achmentid=16142 And what do you mean about the LSD? Since mine is a GTR, will I have to get the bugger up on a hoist so all wheels turn? Thanks for the advice though! will tackle this weekend -marcus

99% sure they are compatible... the only issue (may) be the intake manifold sitting taller in the GTSt, but I doubt that is a problem... In fact I am sure plenty of ppl with GTSts have put GTR strut braces on. The only other way I can think of is to go to something like the Cusco website and see if part numbers for GTR and GTSt are the same

Digging up an old thread, but is this the same for my 32 GTR?

Hi guys I need to do two bits of maintenance in the interior of the car: 1. the centre console plastic surround is not fitting around the gauges / stereo, so there is a 2cm gap at the top between the dash and plastic surround - how do I get it off without breaking it, and from where? 2. I have a Trust Turbo timer that I want to fit where the std dash clock is (trust me, it is a perfect fit - that plastic screen part is the exact size of the turbo timer body). How do I remove the cowling beneath the steering wheel, and the cowling panel that the dash clock sits in? I will try and post some pics of what I mean a bit later if it is unclear, but I think you get the jist of it Thanks in advance

R34 2 door coupe GT-T's rear window
Ronin 09 replied to choyda's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
RACQ (like RACV) 'checks' don't mean anything... completely useless - bollocks. How many other R34 owners have had this 'issue'? -
OK, called him, his wife answered. They are currently on holiday (whoops sorry!), and will be back early August. Brett is likely to start tinting again then... If we want to get him to do it, will have to call again when he is back... Otherwise, find another tinter?

awesome... lunching gearbox... not so awesome

Damn andrew, what happened?
-
Thanks Waz, will give him a call! Cheers again!!!

I have previously had two cars tinted by Brett who used to work at Tint-a-Car Camberwell – he has also done many of my friends’ cars to their satisfaction. Can anyone tell me if he is still tinting cars, and if so, can they give me a number to contact him on? I know I raised this before, but no luck... can anyone help? Cheers

I love it! Does that make me darth and you my soldiers? :jk: Is it because I is blecK? hahaha I'm actually dirty asian as BB Godzilla will attest

Mudguards are cool :aroused: plus if I take them off I will have to respray where they mounted because they will have rubbed the paint there

Well I've had it a week and done about 600 kays already. So far, the HVAC fan has played up - it is making some seriously bad noises, the battery died, and it has been checked and only needs a set of plugs. It remained stock for exactly 7 days. The Trust 4" cat back sounds even better on the GTR than on the GTSt - the phasing of two turbos makes the exhaust sound alot more raw... all I need now is for the front pipes to be sent from Japan (thanks Nengun!) and we'll see some top end improvement. :headspin:

anyone know how we can set up a relay for the switch rather than have all the current go though the switch?
-
You will give me your wheels (waves hand, Jedi style) awesome. Hey Amaru, what does the pump look like in the engine bay / electronic Hicas pump in the rear? What does mine have?
-
Hmm... 3 people posted with GTRs, 13 Votes?!? That means we have 3.25 GTRs each... doesn't really seem fair
-
Hey guys, just interested in what sort of variety of GTRs people own, and a bit about their cars... I'll Start Black '91 R32 GTR Aus Delivered Stock as a rock - no longer - cat back trust exhaust edit: wanted to get a serious demographic of how many GTRs on here, so pls only vote if you have one mmmkay? :headspin:
