Ok, this is my problem, its going into a drift spec 180sx, i've moved the engine back into the bulk head to move the weight off the front and behind the axles but not really the main reason for doing this, i've got a front V-mount Greddy intercooler (i.e made room for it). So basicly because the engine is far back the plenum is crashing into the strut brace and at the very front hiting the bonnet, i've got a S15 front end on the car and the bonnet sits lower then standard ect. Need to sort somthing out as i don't have the time to make one that works. now your going to say well get the bonnet to sit higer and make a strut brace that goes around it, but the biggest problem of all its in the way of the brake servo  as i say don't need it to be any better then the stock one as i know thats good, just not be any worse. Thanx you

Advice on Turbo selection RB20DET, Drift.
superclarkey replied to superclarkey's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
@RS500 Yeah seems to me to be a good turbo and nice map, i don't know if i want the .64a/r don't know if it may surge or not ?? @180bfj20det Yeah the GT30R is a great turbo but i feel its a little big for what i want, i must say power is not everything for what i need. -
Advice on Turbo selection RB20DET, Drift.

@Morgs Yeah building it myself at the moment, put the order thought for the 82mm Tomei pistons just got to await for them to arrive The crank has gone off for cheacking and polish and should be back ready to start machining the block I'm looking into how to go about having the head machined out too to take the 82mm pistons, so i guess i will be able to stick with near normal steel headgasket and it will lower the CR a bit -

PMSL, most of my build spec has already changed (RB24DET on its way ) Anyways just got my HKS exhasut manifold with T3 flange, was thinking of getting a GT3071R maybe in .64a/r with 4 inch outlet and 4 inch inlet, external wastgated (what size wastgate shoud i use) whats your thoughts on that ?? -
UAS RB20/25 Intake Plenum.
superclarkey replied to Boosted Zed's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Umm, guys wonder if you can help me, i've posted before about trying to get an aftermarket plenum, i'm not so bothered about more performace, just not loosing any ect, i.e the same as the stock unit. My reason is that i can't get my RB24DET (RB20DET with GTR crank and rods ) to find under the bonnet of my 180sx as i've had the engine moved back into the bulk head for the front v-mounted intercooler, as i have the S15 conversion front the bonnet is lower and will not shut as it is :Wack: I wanted a Greddy Rb20 plenum but i can't find one anywere, i'm a little worried about buying one like this as it may look nice and shinny but thats not what i'm after. Sorry i've not had time to read all 5 pages. Thanx you for you help superclarkey -
I will do as soon as i get time to do the bottom end
-
I think i'm going to go Tomei 82mm pistons anyways, because i'm going to get my cams and pulleys, springs and valves too.
-
would you belive i've just sorted out and R32 V-spec crank and rods even cheaper (spares) I want to stick with the RB20DET head as its going to be cheaper to tune Here i come RB24DET
-
BTW do you guys think it looks clean?? its only done 32k miles
-
Ok started attacking the engine today, one thing i noticed onthe inlet cam caps a few of them were realy stiff? is this normal?? ANYWAYS HEAD IS NOW GOING FOR PORT + POLISH and a few other things Click on picture to enlarge if you want a more detailed view First the exhaust and turbo came off Followed by the Plenum Then the head just droped off Gave it a bit of a clean and removed the cam gear and lifters (that are hydrolic and NOT solid) And of course i made a detailed drawing of how all the parts go back to gether Today was fun Me holding the exhust cam

Also my crank + rods are out of a R32 gtr, now is there any difference between the crank in a r32 to the rest of the GTR range?
-
Angry, that is most interesting, 4agze pistons hey nice one Thanx guys you really know your sruff about the old RB20DET Anyone with info please step forward and share
-
Yeah, sounds a plan, i'm glad people think its a good idea, anyone know what works involved to get the crank rods and aftermarket pistons to fit ect?? I may get a turbo made to suit engine yet thou, but i'm getting very friendly with tomie and jun at the mement so lets see how it goes THe head is going to be matched to the bottom end with new bore so its going to be a powerful motor:D As i say will keep this thread upto date and what i learn along the way:D Because the RB20DET is always swaped for the 2.5, i think it stands to be a monstor.
-
Yeah, i was looking at a HKS GT-RS but i need it to be a T3 flange and external wastegate
-
Been talking to a guy today that is saying that the RB20DET with a GT3071R would be very laggy, what you think?>
-
I love the RB20DET so revy and try as you will I’ve never heard of anyone blowing one up.... anyways back to the thread. lol Umm I’m not so bothered about final "paper power figures" what the engine to feel smooth and responsive, I think the GT3071R is a bit big for my needs, but I can get other turbo at a later day if it is. As say response is what I need, it’s a full spec drift car, and this is its heart so let’s sort it out. For the bottom end I paid about £1k (but its in fully working order) and I’m sure I could sell the block on to someone willing to do some tuning. Thanx for the reply.
-
We have to use "p" plates in the uk, but its not enforced by law so no one bothers tbh, i think its a bad idea because basicly if they are a crap driver they should have passed there test, end of. just my 2p
-
Cool idea dude I've been dreaming of the Tomie RB26DETT but i think its £12k (pounds, don't know what it is in Aussie money :wack: ) but they look amazing, i've not seen the mines (i've heard of them thou :notworthy: ) What power are you aiming for???
-
First off please don't say get a 2.5 or a 2.6 as I’m tuning the RB20DET ok I've striped the engine down and I’ve bought HKS exhaust manifold (t3 with external waste gate) also a GT3071R with GT series 3 inch turbine out let and 4 inch compressor inlet on .64a/r. Also have AP Engineering power fc and 550cc Nismo injectors. I've bought an RB26DETT bottom end and striped the crank, rod + pistons out of it and plan to put it in the RB. Do you think it is wise to upgrade to after market pistons and rods and just use the crank?? Could you outline whats involved, anyone that’s done with pictures and finial results would be cool. The head is another story, but it’s going to have all the tools for the job. I'm aiming for super fast power for my RS13.5 200sx drift car (yes I know you'll say maybe a GT2871R or GT28RS would have been better, oh well) I would like to use this thread as progress on the work I’m having done and at a later date I will do a full right up on the conversion as when I do it ect. Any help or links would be very useful as info for the RB20DET is somewhat hard to come by in the UK. Thanx for you time. superclarkey

One of my mates has a plenum made somewere in oz, i think it was sub zero or something?
-
this is the thing guys, i don't want to spend all this money on a RB20DET if for the same kind of money it would cost to tune a RB20DET i could get a whole RB26DETT and basicly run the thing near standard I'm still looking into it, and if you do have the time to scan that, that would be good
