RB25DET Neo - bad smell after changing spark plugs
Slap replied to sledgehammer's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
That bolt loose shouldnt cause a boost leak. Maybe a zorst leak.... wich may cause the fuel ratios to be read wrong by the 02 sensor and changing the part throttle fuel trims. On the bright side the turbine prop looks ok. Is that a bit of grease on the fins? Bit of rubber hose is easy to replace dont stress. It may have been perished anyway. Hmmmmm tighten up the bolt and see if it helps. If that turbo is highflowed and on low boost it may be a bit loud from the waste gate working harder to keep boost down. I have never heard of spark plug temps causing such an issue with smell. The way you described it. Could it be wiring? Just maybe load for the plugs is making things hot~??? Maybe someone will chime in soon that has had a similar issue -

You dont need to remove the turbo. Just the intake pipe to it. So you can see the turbine propeller. If the shaft moves to far toward the inlet where the pipe came off it can scrape. You been on stock boost so it may last a year. -

Arhg! I hope the turbine wheel isnt scraping the housing inlet. Turbo rebuild time if so and i wouldnt drive it like that.. Check if the turbine can pull back to the entry and see if its hitting. A boost leak usualy causes richer than normal but still possible to throw shit out of wack. -

Check nothing came unpluged or disconected when the plugs were done. It doesnt take much. A vacum leak, a disconected sensor or plug. Doughtful but If the old plugs were shagged the long term trims may be out badly. If its a stock ecu do a hard wire reset to see if it helps. -
If you cant get one in nz , are you able to switch to an electric fan.(thermos) Heaps of them floating around. Seems to be a pretty common mod. Fans Sensor/control trigger Relay Wire

Ah ok. I gots it. So it needs to back off as boost comes on.
-
would have thought vct should start to kick in as boost does bout 2200-2500. Maybe 1500 is ok i havent played with vct. Why does it end at 5200?
-
Thanks for the confirmation ben. He even states "that it is POSSIBLE to tune a NEWER turbo using VCT like you would a NATURALLY ASSPIRATED car." AdamS15 Probably the spark timming holding ya back being e85 or air intake or fuel delivery (TUNE). Advance ex will make off boost low rpm very sad but power up hard as boost spools. I have set my car up both ways with a 33hiflo turbo and even though advance in and retard ex greatly improves off boost performance and give great slack slow driveability for street it is worth trashing the perk for the hit of boost and high mid range gains. Stock rb20det has like 150+kw. Have you been driving beefier cars latley? My 6lt (240+kw)makes my rb feel wussy af down low but the rb makes up for it with boost hit.

-
They may but not all rbs have vct and it wont aid boost anything like the setup i described. Do some research ben!
-
Advance exahust cam gear will aid boost spool up rate and midrange snapiness. Loose some low end. If its tuned that way leave it. There is no normaly for cam gears. N/a cars- advance in - ex retard Boosted cars -retard in - advance ex Its silly to tune boosted cars like an n/a car unless you want shit top end a touchy off boost low rpm low torque rev. About the only gains will be low rpm on boost.

If it isnt the leak in the zorst mani gasket doing it maybe just maybe it's clean from unburnt fuel from missfires or leaky injectors.

What r34 are qld p plate legal
Slap replied to Caleb axford's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
R34 gt. About 150kw . About 1450kg. Engines are reliable due to low power processing. They are smooth and wind out nice for the age. Good for the skyline asthetics. Can be converted by either engine change or modification to the engine when power is wanted. Cheapest skidlines out there atm apart from r33rb20 and auto r31. They will stay that way. No amount of mods will make it truely a gtt or gtr but can make it similar. If ya can save up and save up and buy em all. Turbo skidlines $$$$ maintained or they fall to bits. -
Block pcv after catch can install
Slap replied to drifter17a's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Seems a bit excessive to me. Any oil leaks? Only 2 ways it disapeers. Burning (multiple cause possibilty) or leaked (seals , gaskets, filter) Motors always burn some but when its usualy in excess can be from but not limited to ...oil passing the rings (wear , wrong gap, worn ringlands) , intake taking in oil (breather setup & pcv from blow by) , head gasket leak (doughtful) , turbo seals. Personaly if it was 200ml per 1000miles id be thinking its fine but others may say different. -

Sorry steering wheel is sold. -
...my terminology is sometimes sickening. Sorry.
-
Oh and as i said in the other thread pvc can and usualy will cause a boost leak but probably not the issue here.
-
You can buy 12v boost switches cheap as on ebay and wire em to a relay. You can usualy adjust the switch to suite the psi you want, im sure you will figure how. If the gauges are using the same source they should see the same. A dedicated inlet source from the plenum is best so that the bov and tevs else ya got dont mess with it but ya can still use it if needed. The extra length in the extended line may be absorbing some pressure before the gauge try a more solid line maybe. I cant see the tee interfering with the pressure reading much, if we were talking flow then yes. Test it on a shorter line or in a parrelell setup out of the car if ya get me and you can. The gauge may be dieing but doubtfull unless it was droped or something. Good luck!

Im pretty sure mine is from j-spec imports S.A

Wow! Thats so oddball! Surely other 32 gtst owners will post up what they have. Deadset iv seen about 10 different 32s and owned 2 and only the 9ne has been complied 5 seater. Ive seen other skylines and 32 model variants with 5 seats.
-
Do you both have a hcr32? Cause ive seen quiete a few but they have all been 4 seat complied from import this one seems to be 5 seat complied from import.
-
I bought my r32gtst back in 2012. It has compliance as a 5 seater hcr32 Since every time i see another 32 gtst they only have compliance for 4 seats. Does anyone else have a 5 seat 2 door 32gtst?
-
Yep ^ Take out the bleed to test the gate.
-
What psi are the waste gates set to stock? Why cant they run a non bled line?
-
"Couldnt he get stock boost just goin feed to actuator and bypassing the bleed valve?" ??
