  2. Just thought I'd put an up date in, it's been a while. I did get to run the car at the Gatton Street Sprints and managed ti win my class. It has been out to some more drift events and setup is getting better. The turbo that I thought might have been on the way out is fine, just needed a good flogging. Took it to a dyno to tidy up some maps and came away with 342rwhp on 14 psi. This weekend will be my first propper race meeting against other cars and everything. (I know it souns lame but I couldn't think how else to say it) Iv'e entered the JDM series in the Queensland Raceway Championships. So new semislicks, brake pads & fluid etc. should be fun. I've also entered for the QLD V NSW super sprints at Carnell raceway in Stanthorpe and the Wheels on wide bay sprints up at marybourough. All in all its a lot of fun atm. Injectors and a better braking system are next for upgrades.
  3. WOW, I wish I got a welcome that warm. Never mind, There is a couple of threads in this section about building your drifter. Sounds like your on the right track. I would sugest you look at getting some good coilovers, JIC, TIEN, K Office etc. Try GTR sway bars and a few sets of rims for sliding on. Try to resist the urge to just go for power to start learning to drift but go for an aproach where you learn with minimal power and focus on setup and technique. Lastly be prepared to damage stuff, it happens.
  4. From a time when Dessie (An SA63 Celica with all nissan suspension, modified GTR trubos, R32GTR brakes R32GTR rear cradle and more) was still being built in Sara & Noddy's shed, Gentle (An R33 drift car realy) has told her stories about Street Sprints like Gatton & Leyburn. This helped Dessie dream of the day when she would do battle in the concrete canyons... And now she has had the chance. Late last year Dessie got her entry in for the Gatton Sprints and quizzed Gentle endlessly about the tyre chicanes, off camber corners and concrete bariers. Unfortunately Gentle was fliping in and out of conectedness, due to complications with her new cams. This also stopped Noddy putting in Gen's entry untill he knew she would be 100%. Unfortunately entries closed by that time and Gen was put on a stand by list. Last Friday Dessie Jumped on her trailer and headed off for Gatton with Tobie leading the way. Tobie had some tyres for Gen so she could go to the drifting at QR on Sat night. Tobie and Dessie went down via Toowoomba visiting the Jim's Jerky factory to pick up some of her sponsors product for the weekend. Gentle went to School with Noddy and headed down that afternoon. Gentle and Noddy found Tobie & Dessie nicely set up in the pits. Noddy asked the nice ppl if there were any last moment drop outs from the sprints and as luck would have it, there had been 2 drop out that morning. Woo hoo! Gentle was in!!!!! They settled down for a good nights sleep, the canyon waited them in the morning. Gentle told Dessie the way to get around the track. "The secret is not to over do it anywhere." she told her quietly so the othe hopefulls diddn't get any hot tips. Dont light the tyres at the start, just get away quick. Get through the first bend in 2nd gear, boot it up the hill and line up the first tyre chicane. She told Dessie to remember the brush and berry technique of braking. Turn in easy, dont understear into a barier, you can always bail out and try again on the next run. Get out of the corners nice and easy, be careful of the crown of the road because it can throw you into the concrete. last of all, and most importantly, If you get messy and start to slide... :ohsnap: ENLOY IT AND PLEASE THE CROWD :boobs: "OH Yeh" smiled Gentle "And when you come back in; glote to all the others about how good you just were" she said with a smile Dessi listened very carefully and thought it all through even more carfully. She went out on the track and had her first look, it all went by so fast. Before dessie knew it, there was the start line and a man saying come closer to the line. Stop there and get ready GO!!!!! he said and Dessie hammered off loudly "2nd gear and round turn 1" she was thinking "Pin it hard and up the hill, brake for the tyre chicane, turn in easy" she looked like an old hand at this. Round turn 2 and down the hill, careful, not to get too side wayz Down to a other set of tyre chicanes, "By Golly!!! they come up quick" she thought sucessfuly geting through them around turn 3 an on to the back straight where everyone was watching. "Keep it to gether and up to the final set of tyres" Dessie was doing her best to stay focused on the task at hand. Round the last bend and over the finish line. It was all over in a smidge over 40 sec. What a RUSH. The two cars had a ball and can't wait for the next run. Both finished the weekend in as good condition as they had started. Some cars didn't. 1 left its mark along 13 of the concrete bariers. Carnell raceway is the next event I think and it will be Dessies turn to explain the way.
  5. I have taken it to a drift test day at QR thursday week ago. I did'nt it to stand out toomuck so i went less wing and side steps. The seting up and fine tuning worked extreemly well, esp when you concide I havn't done any drifting for 2 years. The Sundar comp on the otherhand was a disaster. 1st run there was a masive oil leek while accelerating or cornering hard. this was linked to me not being careful enough with the gasket when putting the cam cover back on. 2nd run the conecter hose from the turgo to the intercooler piping poped off. that was a hot one to fix. All in all I lost about 2 hours of practice and qualifing time. then came the ballance of the thing. The return of the wing upset the front and rear grip ballance. Same tyres and shock settings front and rear but totaly different when trying to slid. This coupled to the ppl who spun and spoiled the few good runs I had ment I didn't even qualify. I was disapointed in myself to say the least. I took the wing off for the afternoon session and I had my car back. There was an astonishing diferance in the feel of the car. This weekend we ar racing the Celica at the Gatton Street Sprints and most likely taking the Skyline to the Sat night drifting at QR. The Celica Sports an R32 GTR rear cradle with R33gtst diff axels and hubs, S13 shocks front and rear, R32 GTR brakes front and rear, modified R32 GTR turbos, laurel front lower control arms Not much toyota left. just the body.
  6. it is ok, I think the turbo didn't like the 2 year sit in the shed. It is an old plain bearing oil cooled t300 garrett with an external gate. Ill up grade it after easter and get some bigger injectors. Obviously some re tuning is on the cards too.
  7. changes to shck setting seam to be more precise and it all just seams to work now. feels nice to drive.
  8. It might be near new but it is still 2nd hand. a new car loses nealy 1/3 its value 6 months old 2ndhand I'll give you $250 cod post.
  9. And there was some accidental drifting on to the front straight. Funny how that happens with real good tyres on the front only.
  10. Early in the week Gentle and Dessie are watching Option vids in the shed and want to go hit the track. Looking at the calander they notice there is a sprint meeting on Sat arvo. They download, print, fillout and fax back thier entries. turns out this is vital because it was booked out by wed arvo, 110 enteries. They got to the track early to get a pit but they were all taken up by morning practice. Eventualy they found 2 spots close to each other. Luckily the clouds parted and the sun shon down for the two cars to have some fun. Gentle has done this before and was put in group 2 with Evo's, WRX's, some GT3's aven a 32GTR and a few other Skylines. Dessie was in group 5 with a bunch of race cars of all breads. Fun was had by all as both cars were on normal street tyres. There was plenty of accidental sliding, well, sort of accidental. Gentle got down to 1 tenth of a second from her previous best time which was set on semi-slick track tyres. Dessie jumped back on the trailer and Gen her followed home.
  11. Today I'm taking it to Queensland Raceway for a more serious shake down. I'm not looking to do a pb just want to see that it is all working and see how the stiffening has changed the feel and ballance of the car. 1.00.84 is the benchmark for this car on the sprint track so we will see how it goes on old tyres and a lower boost setting to try and avoid too much wheelspin and drifting. Somehow I think there may be plenty of the latter.
  12. After talking to the local motorsport community out here in Warwick I took the car down to a local dyno that was reccomended by most, to check mixtures etc. At first I was a bit worried because at low boost levels (7 psi) it was looking a touch lean. At this level it was producing about 250 rwhp. Then we pushed about 10 psi. Surprisingly the mix got richer and naturaly moer power, 270ish rwhp. seeing this we looked at 12-13 psi. The mixture got richer and the power was just nudging 300 rwhp. On the road it feels very nice in it's delivery and put a very big smlie on my dial. There has been no tuning yet, this is purely the result of mild porting and some mild cam work. Before the rebuild it made 275rwhp on 14psi so Im very pleased.
  13. Finaly, It goes and has completed a 350km caining of a run in drive. The drive wound through the Great Deviding Range popping into NSW for a bit and along some amazingly bumpy roads. There were some very nice ones too, with some biblickly fun couners. Wed a mixtures and dyno test in Dalby. This Sat, 1/8th mile tast at Warwick & Friday week it will be at QR for it's first drift performance.
  14. Thankyou to thoes who were having a look for a cam, I found 1 today.
  15. I'm in a bit of a jam. I need and exhaust cam for an RB20 or RB25. I have checked with Surecam and they are exactly the same. Please pm me if you have 1 from a cam upgrade or whatever. Thanks

  17. The inlet verniercam pulley I had made is perfect in every way......almost. The drive pin location is good but, it is an odd elongatted size. ANOTHER BLIMIN SPANNER IN THE WORKS.
  18. The head is fixed, and I've been waiting for a vernier inlet cam wheel to be machined up. All the parts arrived this arvo so it is slowly going back together again. This time specificly to the specs for the cam shafts.
  19. You basicly need to drop the cradle out of the car and put the 4 in the top of the cradle and then the 4 in the under side of the cradle. they stop the cradle bushes from moving. Never done it but that is my understanding. We refabricated our cradle with no bushes and lots of adjustments.
  20. I had the washer under the bolt and needed to hold the cam with a shifter to undo the bolt. Tension checked out before un doing. The tensioner stud I put down to experience ages ago, but this drive pin... Pics are comming, just havn't been home yet. working too much. As for these things happening in 3's, Im hopeing this is the third thing. 1, Tensioner stud 2, Machineist/engine builder stuffup. #1 bigend not sized properly and cheep bearings. 3, cam drive pin lets hope.
  21. The big man up stairs on occasions (in my opinion any way) must sometimes need a laugh and makes dumb stuff go wrong. For example, some 18 months ago the Cambelt tensioner stud in my R33 GTST just snapped in one clean faccet. Result was it ate some valves. A random act of GOD? I rebuilt the motor and the car from the ground up. Just this week while running in the newly finnished machine, checking and fixing the little things, BEHOLD!!! another random act of GODLENESS. Checking to see if an oil leek from the oil cooler sandwich plate was fixed i started the motor cold, let it idle for 2-3 min to get some temp into it. I gave it 3 quick mild blips on the throttle bodie to about 2-3000 rpm. Comming down from the third blip there was a fast tapping sound. It got louder and the motor just turnd off. It did not jar, just stoped as if the key was turned off. From he start of the noise to engine stoped was abou 3-5 sec. Then I said some,. no, a word very loudly, sounded like truck. Testing showed, 0 compression in every cylinder. Cams turn fine (not broken cam). Pittions all go up and down (not a rod prob) All timing marks line up fine(not a timing belt slip) As I took it appart I took photos so I could try to trace the cause. When I got down to head bolts I found that the Inlet cam was 1/4 of a turn out of place. The retainer bolt was still at the correct tension and onct the cam gear was removed, the drive/shear dowle was sheared it 2. This has bent/broken every inlet valve and guide. How does that type of thing happen??? I have been left asking myself if I didnt put it together properly? Is there only the 1 small dowle pin and the bolt holding and driving the cam? How does the bolt & spring go together in the nose of the gear? did I get that wrong? Anyone with answers or suggestions? (pics to come)

  23. We have found that silverline cheapies work realy well, there soft and as you would expect, they dont last a super long time (about 2 years with constant drift use).
