Severe lungeing at carpark
ChrisW434 replied to ChrisW434's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Ok, i'll make those changes to the decel table and see how that goes. Cheers. with the fuel enrichment, ive tried different percentages all the way up to 80% just trying to get a feel for how it reacts when touching the throttle again after decel. The more fuel i add the harsher the engine snaps back to life. It gets really bad. So i'm all the way back to 5% currently to soften the hit when the throttle is first cracked. I reckon a table with RPM axis or vacuum (demand) might be useful with this setting also... -

This info?, i haven't tried the drive with the current DCDT settings, they were around 500rpm higher and only started at 2000rpm before, not 1000 -

Yeah sorry, it's hard to articulate the conditions it falls under (i.e doesn't do it under fuel cut). As i'm coasting and the revs very slowly come down, and the revs lower to a certain point, the car will start lungeing (conditions depending) as if it's fighting something in the tune. Turn on fuel cut, and the car just rolls nice when coasting (no fuel). However, the trade-off seems to be when coming back on the throttle (even slightly) it's not as smooth (as when throttling back on without fuel cut). I'll keep experimenting with different settings and seeing what works better over time. I have a new appreciation for modified ecm cars that truly drive like oem. It's so much work to get right! -

Ok, bit of an update with whats working.. - i think it's the fuel staying on (when i perhaps shouldn't be) at zero demand that causing the lungeing. I say this because when playing around and trying to learn about fuel cut/zero demand settings i got it to lunge bad at 30-40km/h whilst decelerating. It's almost as if the fuelling is fighting the natural engine braking and the chassis 'bounces' against the backlash in the driveline (diff especially), making it worse. I had a forester GT (w/aftermarket ecm) that used to do it, and i couldn't work out why. - map prediction works awesome with drivability, made a big difference straight away. I'll keep working on it, esp the idle quality with and without aircon. Thanks again for the help lads! -

Sounds like good advice to me. I'll work out how to do that, and have a crack. I think the remote mounted iacv might theoretically be laggy also compared to stock mounting position. -

Ok, so i've uploaded the changes i made during the week to the car (MAP prediction, LTFT, a few other things). First thing was drivability (on-off throttle in light traffic, roundabouts etc) was very improved. i am experimenting with turning off/on the decel fuel cut. See how that goes, it drives awesome on/off throttle at cruise speeds as its not jerky when constantly fueling. The most annoying hurdle i have atm is the idle staying about 300rpm high when i roll to a stop, hanging high for ages, or until i touch the throttle. Not sure what this could be, something to do with closed loop interfering due to a bad setting? And some jerkiness is still there as the car slows to a slow roll... smoother idle has helped i think -

Yep, sounds good. I suspected that to be the case. I'll be able to drive the car late this week, so looking forward to loading up some fresh data and testing it -

Ha, i'm super fussy with driveability, and it burns that my money pit drives like a "tuned car" -

Thats pretty switched-on 👌🏻 i'm keen to see how the predicted MAP table updates and changes as it gets driven, as the initial generic figures are much different to your displayed ones. -

Righto: pic 1: awesome, and i've found Haltech has good info about this so its cool to see a working example. pic 2: looks like my current one lol. I'll smooth it out whilst i sort the driveability. The brappy idle is a guilty pleasure though haha. pic 3: I'll compare that to mine and see how that goes. Looks good. pic 4: this table has similar numbers in the cells, so i'm guessing this one is quite sensitive to values? -

Hi, i did try turning off the decel fuel cut, and noticed a positive change when on/off throttle in traffic, but needs tweaking as the car runs on more than i'd like. So thats still in progress. Also, i richened up the fuel map slightly and gave it more ignition advance to smooth out the idle which also helped. I've got some good advice to follow with other settings also so theres more to do. 👍🏻 -

I have watched a couple of Evans demos on youtube. Pretty good hey. I was considering it, as it looked awesome. Good feedback about it is encouraging so i might subscribe to learn more and get this 90s JDM nugget sorted -

Love that info, agree with all of it. I have a WB1 controller for it, and i welded the bung around a metre from the turbo down near the transmission. Seems to work well and should not get baked too quickly... I'm happy to hear others acknowledge the whole "drives like a tuned car" deal as i was initially disappointed after the first couple tunes, but have since learnt the reality. I can only imagine how many hours would be in a factory ecm to get a factory car driving like they do! Keen to get the LTFTs up and running and maybe i'll see a little improvement over time 👍🏻 -

All sounds good, thanks for that. I'm not starting from scratch as the car is tuned prob 95% just trying to clean up drivability myself as it's obviously really expensive to keep paying a tuner for diminishing returns. The fuel tables are set up decent, as is the basic setup.. i think -

The MAP prediction setup looks complex to me, i don't understand any of the 4 pages really 🤷🏻♂️. I'll have to do some research Also, from your experience, should i be afraid of using the LTFT as a means to improve drivability over time? -

Thanks for the offer, i may just do that 👍🏻 i made good progress by adding 5% fuel to the low rpm/light throttle part of the fuel map and that made a good difference. i turned off coasting fuel cut and helped drivability when rolling also. I may play around with that a bit too. i'm at work for a week but if i don't have any luck when i'm on break, i'll hit you up for a look at the tune. cheers! And thanks -

Yeah i do that sometimes, less gear leverage helps. I played with the tune (made it richer at low rpm/light throttle) and that helped.
