A World without Skylines & other Imports...
78vbsle replied to nismo818's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Build an I.C.V. (or indipendantly constructed vehicle), than you can build whatever you want. -
interesting satistic (anti hoon laws) is it true ?

the reason alot of the falcodore guys don't seem to get defected as much is the street machining fraturnity has been through all this stuff before and so usually get there cars properly engineered ie. an engineers certificate. Look at magazines like street machine or street commodores, and you will quite often see them refering to the legal implications of various modifications but if you look at magazines that are popular with the import guys like zoom, HPI, speed, fast fours etc. etc. you'll see they rarely if ever talk about the legal issues regarding modifications. to see what I'm on about check out this artical. HOLY CRAP!!! questions raised over p-plate statistics.

It wouldn't do any good contacting the mass media (60 minutes, ACA, Today tonight, the daily telegraph etc. etc.) because they're the ones pedeling this misleading information. This time it's not the governmet that's at fault, it's the media who is interpreting and presenting the information in a misleading way. About the only people in the media who might be interested in a story like this would be Media Watch, but even then it would only create limited exposure. -
I was just reading a very interesting artical in "Autosalon" magazine (issue 29, page 31 called stop the bullshit). In a recent newspaper artical that stated that there were more under 25 fatalities than in any other age group (574 in 2002). The writer (Charles Kha) of the artical in "Autosalon" had lost all faith in the information provided by the newspapers and so decided to do a little research for himself. He started studying the Department of Transports 'Road Crash Data and Rates' document and had found the newspaper had neglected to mention that 129 of the 574 fatalities were under the age of 16. They were including passengers involved in all road accidents. The figure for 17-25 year olds was only 445, compariable to the 26-39 age group at 444 fatalities. This raises some serious questions as to how many of these accidents involve 17-25 year old drivers and how many of these 17-25 year olds were just passengers in other accidents not involving a 17-25 year old driver. In another related artical in the Jan/Feb 2005 issue of open road, NRMA policy adviser states they have not seen any evidence that restricting the use of powerful vehicles would have any sort of road safety benifit. Later on in the artical it goes on to talk about speed limiting vehicles, they also stated here that they would be pretty useless as most accidents happen in urban areas at speeds of 80km/h or less!!! Really starts to make you question what we're being told doesn't it?

Yep, ya gota love ANDRA.

A good twin system will flow better than a big single zorst, however most decent twin systems can be pretty pricey ($2,000+) so most will usually just go for a big single because it's cheaper.

Personally, I agree with that statement too. How many people on this forum have bothered to get there cars properly engineered, not many I bet. If we don't mod our cars properly than we just make our cars easy targets for police. This is something us old school street machiners went through years ago, in the end it's not that hard to get a car properly engineered, and the desighn rules are actually pretty flexible in regards to what you can do to your car, so the best thing the skyline fraternity can do to keep the cops of our backs is to make sure we mod our cars properly and get them engineered.

Intresting you brought up the topic of driver concentration, I pulled this off a thread on the OzDrive forums.
-
Since I began my involvement with the Australian Drivers Group, I have spent a fair bit of time studying driver behaviour and you'd be suprised just how easy it is to pick up on bad driving habbits and predict who is going to be the most likely to get involved in an accident. All you really need to do is pay enough attention. If the government got tough on licence tests, you'd be suprised how many bad drivers you'd be able to pick up. True you might not spot all bad drivers, but you'll get a hell of alot of them.

Luck had nothing to do with it, I just used a bit of common sense, I didn't go around driving like a complete tool. And you want to talk about poor conditions, well where I grew up it had some of the worst conditions. I grew up in a small country town in south west NSW, roads were generally rough and narrow, some no more than dirt tracks. Many were pothole riden, covered in loose debree and had many off camber undulations. With a combination of sun, rain, ice and heavy fog it made the roads interesting to dive on to say the least, add plenty of night driving (I use to work nights) and heavy traffic and you have what are some of the states worst roads. Yet I still managed to control my heavily modified 308 powered 1978 model VB Commodore. Poor roads and a poorly maintained vehicle is no excuse for bad driving. If they use a bit of common sense then they shouldn't have a problem no matter where or what they drive. And if they can't, than they shouldn't have a licence!
-
Now please tell me how I'm prooving the guy right. here's what I wrote; As I said, I owned a powerful car and I never crashed it!!! I never crashed because as a P-plate driver I exibited something known as common sence. Same goes for my freinds and family, most of them also owned high powered cars and they never crashed them because they also used a bit of common sense. Now if a driver is so inept as to not be able to control a car and use some basic common sense while driving, than that person shouldn't have a licence at all. Don't just try and ban them from driving high powered cars, BAN THEM FROM DRIVING ALL TOGETHER!!!!
-
Yeah and about 8 years ago I was a P-plater too, and at the time I drove a highly modified and very powerful/torquey worked 308, and I DIDN'T loose control of the car! Why? because I learnt about a little thing called throttle control!!! All my freinds and family also drove high powered cars on there P's and none of them lost control and crashed either because they to had learnt about throttle control too. As I said, IF YOUR DRIVING ABILITY IS SO CRAP THAT YOU CAN'T CONTROL A BLOODY V6 COMMODORE THAN YOU'VE GOT NO BUSINESS BEING ON THE ROADS!!! YOU SHOULDN'T BE BEHIND THE WHEEL OF A CAR!!! AND YOU CERTAINLY SHOULDN'T HAVE A BLOODY LICENCE!!!!!

Nizpro's twin turbo 355 ferrari spyder
78vbsle replied to 78vbsle's topic in General Automotive Discussion
here's the current specs for their XR6 Turbo engine, as far as I know the figure was acheived on 98 octane unleaded. -
You're bloody joking right? V6 commodores are you serious? If a driver is so crap (p-plater or not) that he/she can't handle a friggen V6 commodore (or any car for that matter), than he/she should not have a bloody licence to drive at all!!!! :looney:

I can't speak for other states but in NSW if you go up anymare than 2 inches in diameter and 1 inch in width than you need an engineers certificate to show that the increased size and increases in unsprung weight won't upset the handling of the car. If it is deemed fitting larger wheels will upset the cars handling than the engineer may require you to improve your cars suspension and braking before issueing you with an engineers certificate.
-
got thes pic"s off Nizpro's forum on there website http://www.nizpro.com.au/ They predict it will make over 400rwKW on standard engine internals when it's finished.
-
Actually Holden is bringing in record profits, and is one of the few local companies that speak out against our draconian traffic laws, they also do alot to promote the performance car industry and motorsport in general. Probably the biggest company trying to ban imports is actually Toyota Australia, it's been well documented that toyota has long pushed for tighter restrictions on grey imports.

this only applys to bov's that vent to the atmosphere, and even then only on cars equiped with a MAF sensor. cars that use a MAP sensor instead of a MAF sensor can run an externally venting bov's so long as they don't increase exhaust noise emmissions to more than 90db for 83 onwards cars or 96db for pre 83 cars. If however a car runs a MAF sensor than the air will have to be plumbed back into the intake between the MAF sensor and the Turbo/Supercharger. This is done to stop something called high flow revision, where by the computer is tricked into dumping excess fuel into the engine while the throttle is closed, as the fuel can't mix with oxygen it can't burn resulting in unburnt fuel being dumped into the exhaust creating unexceptably high emmissions. some of the supersonic style BOV's you see will also cause vehical noise emmissions exceed the 90-96db limit and thus not permitted for use.
-
BOV's aren't actually illigal, you must howevr show continued compliance to either ADR 37/01 or ADR 79/00 depending on when the car was manufactured. To do this you will usually have to go through an a noise & emmissions test (free in NSW, not sure about other states though) and have an engineer sighn off on it ie. an engineers certificate. The process is a little different for each state, but it's still very similar. If I get time I'll put up the requirements and contact details for each state.

Holy shiit, it was Graehm dousset owner of EVL-R34 (not sure how to spell his name properly), the story was on seven news, he wants the state government to stop young drivers from being allowed to use dragstrips like WSID because he thinks they encourage young people to drive fast. I hate to speak ill of a grieving father who is obviously still angry about what happend, but places like WSID are not responsible for his son's death, usually it's inadequate training, experience and guidence that is responsible for young deaths on the road.

I'm doing this survey on behalf of Oz Drive (the Australian Drivers Group) and would appreciate it if you all took part, there's no right or wrong answer, we are just trying to guage peoples attitudes. Hypothetical situation: You're driving along in a suburban street, in your mirror, you see another car closing fast, doing 80 or 90 in a 50 zone. Would you? A) Ignore them and stay at your current speed B) Speed up C) Slow down D) Pull over and let them go past Thanks for your participation.

Recently much was wrote about P-plate restrictions on this forum, and at the time I said this would become an issue for all modified car owners, as the do gooders would turn on us once they were done with the P-platers. WELL THAT TIME HAS COME!!! In the past week or two I have heard these uneducated do gooder morons call for power caps on cars, speed limiting cars, stopping speedo's from reading over 130km/h, calls to stop people from being able to modify there cars for more performance, blameing legitimate motorsport for our poor attitudes towards driving and my personal favourite, powerful cars and vehicle advertisments (motorsport included) are responsible for road rage. 7 News is airing a special report tonight (during the regular news) on "teen" drag racing, and supposedly has some parent of a victem whinging that police need to get tougher on young hoons. It seems the mainstream media really has it in for us (not sure why?) and is intent on making all car enthusiasts public enemy No.1, and they don't look like they will stop until they get the government to legislate us out of existance. So the real question is now, what are we as enthusiasts going to do to stop this from happening?
