  1. Seen Graeme Dousset on 7 News tonight in his first interview since the accident, he was criticizing the Carr government over the new restrictions that have just been brought in, he was also angry that he and the other parents had not been a part of the decision making process despite the fact that the government and the media used his son as the catalyst for these reforms.
  2. Actually it's been in victoria for several years already, doesnt seem to be policed well though. from what I know it is based on the factory power to weight ratio of the car, which means as long as your car is under that limit off the factory floor it's legal. It also appears from what I have been told that you are allowed to modify the car for as much power as you want because the power to weight ratio is only based on the factories power to weight ratio. The new restrictions you have been hearing about only apply to NSW so far.
  3. you got me intriuged, so what you talkin bout willis
  4. You only get lower premiums if it works, and judging buy it's failure in Vic, power restrictions won't work here either, the only thing that will change is the types of cars they crash.
  5. Bad news for all you P-platers I'm affraid, today the NSW state government (NSW labour party) announced it will be introducing power restrictions on P-platers in early 2005. Here's what I know about the restrictions so far. 1. Power restrictions will only apply to 1st year P-platers (p1 licence holders). 2. Restrictions include all V8's, Turbo/Supercharged and Modified cars. 3. There will be exemptions made for those who already own high powered cars (as in already own them as of this date). 4. Similar exemptions will also apply to those who drive a parents or work vehicle. In the end it's not as bad as it could have been, but it still sucks for all you p-platers. But somehow I get the feeling this will just mean we will see alot more sleepers on our roads. A small quote from an artical in the daily telegraph
  6. Some of the worked V-tech Hondas you see getting round our pretty quick, fit a better flowing intake and exhaust, shave the head for more compression, more agressive cams, fit a programable ecu and strip as much weight out of the car as you can and you can get them to run 13's. So if you do the same sort of work to a sportivo there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to go as quick, so being able to beat a stock r32 gts ot gtst really isn't that unbeilivable.
  7. there are exemptions for people who already own a high powered car, so if you act quickly (as in the next few days), you should be able to apply for the exemption and still keep your skyline.
  8. Check this out. A roads engineer in europe has started developing roads with no traffic sighns and has expeirenced a large drop in the number of accidents on said roads. Man Aussie traffic engineers would have a heart attack. http://www.wired.com/wired/archive/12.12/t...tw=wn_tophead_7
  9. first read this. I am really sick of this diickhead, now many of you , like me aren't P-platers anymore, so such restrictions won't really affect us. So then, why am I so pissed off? I'll tell you why, because these restrictions will now pathe the way for power restrictions on all cars, it'll be the 70's supercar scare all over again. Honestly, how long do you think it is going to take before these car hateing pinko's start thinking, why do we need such powerful cars when the speed limit is only 110km/h, and then call for a power cap to be put on all cars? It's time for all car enthusiasts to stand up and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!!! It's time to let Carl Scully and his cronees no that this legislation is going to cost him and his party votes. I would urge every enthusiast on here to write to Mr Scully's office directly on the following address; Carl Scully, NSW minister for roads (NSW Labour party) [email protected] Write to him and let him know he has just lost your vote, and not just your vote, let him know you will encourage as many people as you can not to vote for him (and the NSW labour party). LET HIM KNOW THAT HIS BLATA0NT CONTEMPT FOR MOTORING ENTHUSIASTS AND MOTORISTS IN GENERAL WILL COST THE NSW LABOUR PARTY THE NEXT NSW STATE ELECTION!!!
  10. Why? I use to drive a powerful V8 commodore back when I was on my P's, and I never crashed it, in fact I still own it. And for that matter my brother, my father and most my freinds all drove high powered cars on their P's too, they never crashed them either. And I'm sure many of the members on this forum are in the same boat. So why then do you assume that just because a P-plater drives a powerful car that they'll automatically crash it, and why make the equally ignorant assumption that just because a p-plater is in a crappy car that they will be safer. BAD DRIVERS CAUSE CRASHES, NOT HIGHPOWERED CARS!!! And just because they're a P-plater doesn't mean they're a bad driver.
  11. crash research information shows that the chances survival of hitting a solid imovable object at anything over 70km'h is very low, so a datsun 120y into a powerpole at 80km'h is hardly going to be a little crash, further more many of these little econoboxes are still capable of high speeds, I had a dead stock Datsun 200b (L20B engine) that was capable of over 170km/h. most late model econnoboxes like corrollas and pulsars etc are still capable of over 200km/h, so if an idiot wants to do something stupid behind the wheel, they can still do it in a crap car. Thirdly, most P-platers drive crappy little cars anyway, they can't afford a proper high performance car and yet they still crash in unpricadented numbers, most crashes involving p-platers occur in little guttless cars or old shitboxes. And lastly, P-platers in victoria crash just as much as p-platers anywhere else in australia despite already having these restrictions in place. QUITE CLEARLY THEY DON'T WORK!
  12. The point I was trying to make is that the NSW state labour government isn't too popular with the voters in NSW at the moment and they are very worried about making things worse by introducing pollicies that would be unpopular with the voters. This gives us a real oppertunity to stop these curfews.
  13. An interesting tid-bit of info for everyone, after the federal Labour governments crushing defeat in the federal election and having much of that blame placed on the NSW & Victorian state Labour governments combined with the NSW state Labour governments very low approval rating, Roads minister Carl Scully isn't to keen on implimenting any pollicies that would makie him and his party even more unpopular with the voters. So if we show him just how unpopular these restrictions would be with the voters, there is a good chance we can stop them from being implimented.
  14. It won't be a fair comparison, but who cares it'd still be interesting to see.
  15. With all the controversy surrounding the topic of P-plate restrictions the NSW government has put up a website to guage the publics response. You can have your say on the issue here. http://www.youngdrivers.com.au/ And/or you can contact these ministers here; Carl Scully, NSW Minister for Roads. [email protected] Donald Page, NSW Shadow Minister for Roads. [email protected] Eventhough I am 24 and these restrictions wouldn't really affect me, I feel these restrictions (power restrictions, curfews, passenger restrictions) are down right idiotic. Inexperience (due to lack of proper training) is the cause of most of these accidents and placing restrictions on young drivers is only going to limit their oppertunities to gain much needed experience. We need to put the focus on L-plate drivers and make sure they recieve adaquate training before being licenced. If a licenced driver can't handle a powerful car (or any car for that matter) than they shouldn't have a licence, plain & simple! But it's not just P-platers that have to worry about these draconian restrictions, such restrictions would set a very dangerous precadent to try and ban all modified/performance cars! There's already a bunch of car hating pinko's trying to push for this, stating that we shouldn't have such powerful cars as we are only allowed to 110km/h anyway. So in closing I would encourage all enthusiasts to fight these restrictions and BAN LOW PERFORMANCE DRIVERS, NOT HIGH PERFORMANCE CARS!!!
