Be very careful if you’re dealing with Montu Motors. While they do have some good cars, they also tend to have some pretty bad ones, and you have to know what to look for. Unfortunately they represent all their cars as being really good, and that’s just not the case.

Quick progress update: This process has taken much longer than anticipated, but the end is finally near! The machine work was recently completed and the engine is being assembled. Since I've waited this long I decided not to postpone the cams and E85, so on with Tomei 262 cams and a set of Tomei springs and cam gears. Chassis mods include Fortune Auto 500 series coils, a set of 17" RPF1's, GKTech front upper control arms, new OEM tie-rods, and GKTech HICAS delete. Here are a few pics of the progress (the car on the lift is prior to coilovers being installed). I can't wait to get behind the wheel again!

Car is almost done! I'm planning to pick it up next weekend and I can't wait. How's it going over there in KG? You still driving the R33 or have you put it away for the winter?

I'm jealous! I didn't get much seat time before the bearings retired lol. I'll definitely make up for the lost time though!

I've had to adjust my expectations on this projects timeline, and I'm not hopeful to have my car back that soon, but maybe I'll get lucky.

As you may have seen in the Newbie section, I recently imported a beautiful, one-owner R32 from Japan and, wouldn't you know it, I spun a couple of bearings after just a week of driving. I wasn't planning to rebuild so quickly, but I guess that's how it goes with these cars. Because I was concerned about prolonging the life of the motor, I had already purchased a Haltech, Koyo radiator, fuel filter, spark plugs, wide band, boost controller, etc. - just the basics for a healthy stock motor - and was scheduled for a tune, but never made it that far. Fortunately I was just outside of the driveway when I felt it go so I was able to shut it down immediately, preventing a more catastrophic failure like a rod through the block. I debated tackling the rebuild myself with a mechanic friend who's a Nissan wiz, but ultimately decided to have it done by the pro's at Driver Motorsports in Virginia, USA. I quickly fell way down the rabbit hole and this has turned into much more than I had originally planned, but isn't that how it always happens? My goal is to retain a fairly stock or OE appearance, but I need mo powa babeh! Sadly, no update at the moment. Block has been at the machine shop since late August, but they're typically a 3-4 weeks turnaround time. Hopefully soon though! How are you enjoying yours? Anything new?

Very cool! I've seen two R32's in Waldorf within the last two months, and a close friend of mine has a 32 and a 35, so there are a few in the area. We'll have to do a meet-up/cruise when I get my car back. Hopefully by end of September.

I did give some consideration to a single turbo setup. No question they make power more efficiently, but I'm happy with a mild build at this point. Also, retaining a fairly stock appearance is appealing to me so I decided to stick with the low mount twins. The forged internals and brace leave me the option to go nuts if I ever change my mind down the road. But that's assuming my wife let's me have access to the savings account again....

The front differential is integrated into the sump and, at higher HP levels, the twisting force can cause the block to flex and potentially crack. The brace is a billet girdle that reinforces the button end to prevent the twisting/cracking. Mine is from JHH Racing.

It's at a shop now in queue for the teardown, and it has quickly turned into one of those "since the motor is out" situations. But if I'm going spend the money to rebuild the motor I should do it properly, right? Forged internals, addressing the oiling issues, block brace, -5's, fuel, clutch, etc., etc.

You're not kidding. I'm learning that lesson very quickly - spun a bearing after less than 500 miles of driving. ?
