    Help!

Firstly, hello Melbournites, my name is Adam and i've moved here from Perth last week. i have a little problem, my r33 is a sick backfiring fuel guzzling got-no-power farting mess at the moment. o2 sensor has been changed, wiring has been checked, new plugs etc etc... 3 different places in perth have no idea what's wrong since it's a sporadic problem (ALWAYS brought on by driving on boost for a few minutes) i'm living in heidelberg. anyone recommend any shops that would be good for this sort of thing? i've found a few places that look likely in the yellow pages but they are all miles away. thanks heaps in advance guys my fuel bill and my sanity depend on you!! 9. hmmm. nope the drive really doesn't phase me, done it twice before, just a few day's worth of total boredom though. would prefer to put it on a truck though, just from a wear and tear point of view. found a guy willing to do it for about $500 which i thought was pretty good, said i could cram as much gear into it as possible, as long as he could still squeeze in to drive it.
  10. Hi guys, thanks for the replies, time to start making those oh-so-depressing phone calls. just to make you curse, over in perth i pay 990 for full comp on only 40% NCB, 26 with clean record and garage. Same mods - rims, stereo, exhaust, boost etc. Yeah i remember reading through the Just Cars conditions when i originally got my car and there was some loophole i didn't like, can't recall what it was though.... i think Young & Cool had a similar thing too.
  11. Hi guys (and girls) my name's Adam, i'm coming over to your cold wet homeland from sunny Perth late January to work and play for a couple of years. Looking forward to meeting up with some of you at a few cruises etc in the coming months! Anyways, looking for some help/advice on a few small things. First - i'm currently insured with HBF, who do great deals over here, but won't insure outside of WA, unless you're on "holiday", and even then only for 6 months. I know this has probably been covered a lot before, but i've rung a few places and not got great quotes. Anyone that could drop a few names of companies i should ring for a 27yo with clean record, that would be great. I currently pay just under $1K per year, much over that and my beloved car is going to get sold to someone more financially secure than i am Second - is transporting the car - anyone have experience doing this? truck Vs train Vs driving over. At the moment i'm leaning towards flying and getting the car transported, full of my stuff, but again seems expensive. ok, thanks in advance, see some of you soonish
  12. Crazy. I was told over 6 months ago that Bilstein weren't even making R33 shocks any more, courtesy of whiteline. i had to wait about 3 weeks from ordering to get mine (this was in Feb 2003), which wasn't too bad, and at that time was told i was lucky coz no more were going to be sent over after that shipment!! yet it appears they are still pumping them out... and i have to say, that while the handling improved drmatically, i still can't quite get it sorted the way i like it... has this knack of sudden oversteer on fast corners which can be a weeeee bit unsettling :-/ my 0.02c
  13. cheers paul that would be great. yeah me and my mate shooould be able to fit it, but does look like a bit of a mission. only damage is the guard is a little scratched and the tyre ripped up a bit, otherwise *phew* all ok. hopefully suspension parts are not bent or anything though, won't know till i get it up off the ground tomorrow morning
  14. hi guys... have a pretty nasty problem with my r33 - a HUGE clunk from the left side rear and then a lot of scraping... hopped out and the left rear tyre is 2 inches further rear than it should be. looked under car and it looks like the A arm has snapped clean in two up near where it joins the chassis proper. and looks like a biarch of a job to fix aswell anyways - anyone have huge chunks of suspension bits lurking around their shed, or know someone that does... will save me some phone calls to wreckers in the morning btw this happened while turnign left at a set of lights. very slow. must have been a stress fracture there already of something. thanks in advance Adam
  15. when the car is idling (no throttle) fiddle with the Ne1 setting in Dec-Air and see what makes your car idle smoothly. might need some fine tuning on cold mornings.......
  16. for Dec-Air : from memory the "Thr" setting is the amount of throttle where the SAFC will start to compensate and try to stop stalling. i think i set mine to something very small like 2-3%. ie if you have less than 2% throttle pedal pushed down it will compansate. the ne settings refer to the amount of extra fuel the SAFC will dump into the engine at that rpm to stop it stalling. i think mine are at about 4-5% for ne1 and 3% for ne2, bearing in mind that the settings on the fuel graph for low throttle are around -7% for those points does that make sense?? without the Dec_air set up, my car stalls all the time when pulling up to lights/clutch in, worse +++ when the engine is cold. try those settings and see how you go.
  17. I've got the whiteline kit with adjustable sway bars, front on hard and the rear in the middle. still find that on fast tight corners (eg turning right at lights at around 60, no traffic around!) it has a tendency to understeer just a little, but then to flip into oversteer without much/any warning. can be rather scary and hard to correct, to the point that i have a little less confidence in the car's handling than i feel i should. the rear end is far less "twitchy" than a lot of rwd cars i have driven, but the way it can just snap out on you with no warning worries me. Question, i guess, is should i try full soft at the rear sway? the shocks are bilstein all round but not adjustable
  18. It's probably a fair guess to say that the owner of the car was of asain extraction, with "888" in the number plate. pity the lots of lucky number 8's didn't help him/her my 0.02c edit: ok i can't type. A.S.I.A.N. how's that?
  19. Rob , i know you've used only top quality gear (and from the looks of it have got top quality results so far) and so the cost will be up there, but would you mind posting a ballpark figure for the cooler/turbo/wastegate package all up. If not, fine, i respect that good luck with it all, can't wait to see how it goes when everything's been sorted and tuned.
  20. Can also recommend Zammit's in Osborne Park, frobisher st. a bus took a serious disliking to the front of my car and they had it all fixed up in a week, and a great job too. insurance job also so no idea what they charge.
  21. I've pretty much got the same story as JLNewton. Got the car with lowered springs and standard shocks, and tyres that had the insides chewed out and the outsides untouched. Handled like a blimp, didn't feel at all confident with turn-in and teh back lurched out of corners something shocking. enter the whiteline works kit. around $2K fitted, but possibly the best money spent on the car in terms of driving enjoyment. now the steering is nice and precise, turn in is great, complete confidence in the car doing what i want it to do, and when i want it to. put the power down out of corners and the back end squats and digs in a bit, with minimal slide. great corner speed, and the ride is stiffer but definately not harsh. set up as in above post. recommended.
  22. From exactly where in the world does a Brisbane-ite find a thread from WA from a year ago??
  23. thanks guys
  24. After an airport shuttle bus did some untimely customising work on my car (in short - front quarter damaged, front bar ripped off car and squashed, front right wheel damaged - all while my car was neatly parallel parked!!) i am left with a small chip out of my driver's front mag wheel. and insurance doesn't want to pay up as yet, claiming it may not be due to "accident damage" in the above incident. i'm working on it, though. anyways, my question - it's a deep chip, only about 5c coin size, but i know it's gonna bug me every time i see it. anyone know where i might get this seen to if it's not too pricey to fix up? and thanks ( sort of ) to bus driver Jim who was nice enough to leave his details under my windscreen wiper after nudging my baby with his cumbersome set of wheels while the car was unattended. grrrrrrr.......
  25. what's the site for greenline? have found nengun and taka's but never them in my searching
