ISSUE FIXED It was the Air Flow Meter - specifically, a heat sensor wire in the meter has corroded (after only 25 years!). It was in place, but when mechanic took AFM apart and touched the wire, it crumbled and came off. Explains the random, intermittent, weirdo behaviour.

Thanks so so much for the replies - seriously. My wife has been in full Supportive Spouse mode for a month. The repairs are beyond my skill, and a couple of mechanics have noted that AFM fault usually results in black smoke and shunting and carry-on. This issue sometimes doesn't even occur for a few days of driving and it's all smooth and sweet. Then FART. Gonna keep looking. Might suggest this AFM issue to the mechanic though - can't hurt!

Stock R33. Had it for 5 years with no issues. No mods. Recently removed faulty central locking. It started experiencing this random power-loss under acceleration - nothing hard or revvy, but it suddenly cuts out like there's a fuel problem. When it first started occurring, it would be fine at suburban speeds, for a day, two days, then this weird cut-out would start happening, now it's a regular thing. I can limp it home when I take it out to test it, but it's becoming a mystery. Licensed performance mechanic (well-trusted) has: Replaced fuel pump Re-routed around fuel voltage (not sure what that means) Swapped ECU Still same issue like the first day it started happening. Has anyone else experienced this? Did you find out what it was? I'm going nuts.
