V36 Skyline Review By Motorfan
dd4321 replied to funkymonkey's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Slightly off topic... looking at the timing between the release of V36 sedan and the much anticipated GTR Proto, I suspect that there will be no more V36 Coupe. The V36 based coupe would probably be replaced by GTR proto altogether with probably the milder "GTST" version to follow. But, that's my 2cents... -
Thanks for the input. I take your point that CVT could actually disguise the performance of the car as it will keep accelerating without ever changing gear. Did you try the manual mode though? I should at least mimic the impression that you are changing gear, ie, jerkiness when changing between gears

Hi all, After being a proud owner of R33 for years, I am now thinking to upgrade to something more practical. I have V35 Sedan in my mind now as they seems pretty good from the look as well as the engine point of view. Few questions I have for those who has first hand experience with V35: - Why the sedan is much cheaper than the Coupe? If the difference is only a few grands, I probably understand. But looking at j-spec website, there are massive difference in price. This is also one of the reason why I am thinking to get the sedan, besides being more practical than the coupe (albeit Coupe 10x sexier) - How does the 8 speed CVT perform compared to manual? I have some experience driving Honda Jazz with 7 speed CVT and I love it! But this is probably because Jazz is not designed to be sporty. My question here is, would the CVT transmission take away the 'sportiness' of the V35 or in fact enhance the experience? - Why the 8 speed CVT only available in the Sedan. The Coupe I believe gets normal ordinary auto box. Is this part of the answer to the above question, ie, CVT takes away the sportiness of the car? - I can see on the paper that power-wise, V35 sedan seems quite quick, in fact probably one of the quickest in the sport sedan segment (in the price bracket). How does the sedan drive in the real world? - I think overall V35 is a very good car, both in sedan and coupe form. Why is it so rare? Is it because compliance has only been granted recently? - How much is the cost of compliance in Sydney? Thanks a lot guys for your input DD

F.s Wrecking R33 Gtst Series 2 1997 Model
dd4321 replied to sav's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Hi mate, Do you still have driver's side window? If yes, how much? Thanks D -
Had the same problem before... surely it was a biatch to take off. O2 sensor wrench was way too expensive ($45 for a socket... forget it). So, went to Bunnings to the plumbing section, got some sort of wrench for plumbing / piping, octangular in shape, fits perfectly. Used a long stainless steel rod along the wrench for leverage, and half a can of WD40 later... hurrah! I hope that helps.. DD

Just realised that my car has been leaking oil for a few weeks. It seemed to happen after I changed my clutch. Not sure what oil that is, but it's not engine oil. The colour is kinda brownish, but different shade of brown / golden compared to engine oil. My guess is gearbox oil, but not sure. Anyone has this experience before? My car also makes grinding noise when the clutch is disengaged (meaning pressed) and disappeared when the clutch is engaged (pedal released). Shouldn't be worn parts as the clutch is brand new. Not sure if this is related to the oil leak. Any opinions? Thanks DD

Got mine today... delivered to my office. Damn they are heavy. Ended up carrying them from my office in the city, gone home by train and 15 mins walk from the station... nearly broke my arms in the process, but definitely worth it. Looks good. Thanks heaps Rianto for organising this. You're a legend mate! DD

Hi all... Is there any noticable differences (performance-wise) between the chrome version of Apexi power intake kit and the normal ones? I would expect the chrome one would probably worse as it may be more prone to retain heat. Any opinions? Thx

Thanks guys.... at least I am more comfortable now... not that I don't trust my car, it's just the fact that the car is 11 years old that bothers me a little bit... I always think my car as a 'hard worker' in Japan and came to Australia to retire & being pampered by the new owner... not sure if this is an accurate anology, probably the first owner was a middle-aged business man who drove no faster than 40 Cheers, DD

I'm planning to take my '95 R33 GTST down to Canberra on the long weekend from Sydney. I am not too comfortable on taking my car for a long trip, worried something my blowup on the way, given it is 11 yrs old car. The car has done 103K, and I believe it's never been rewound back. I had the car for nearly 3 years, travelled around 10,000 ks as it's a weekend car and so far has been very reliable. But, I've been hearing people blowing their turbos, etc, etc, after or during a long trip. Anyone has similar experience or comments? Thanks in advance for your advice DD

I checked with them and yes, they are open on saturday, half day. Would really appreciate if you could check with them if saturday is possible next time you are in contact with RDA. Sorry to rush as I need to bring my car to my mechanic next week. Thanks heaps with your help so far... DD
-
Hi.. What's the possibility of picking up the item this saturday? Otherwise I may need to pull out of this GB. Sorry if this has caused any inconvenience... but if Saturday is good, let me know when I need to make the payment. Again, thanks heaps for organising the GB. Great work! DD

I have a set of brakepads and clutch that I need to install. Would you guys normally trust 'generic' mechanics such as Ultratune or Midas? I always entrust my car to Greg at Autosport, service is excellent and price is reasonable, but a bit too far from where I live. Any of you have good experience with mechanic around Rockdale area? Thanks heaps DD

When can I get them if I'm interested? If I can get it by the end of August or 1st week of September, I am in for a pair of front slotted R33 GTST Thanks DD
-
I was quoted by V Sport a set of Galfer front pads ($148) and Lucas Rear pads ($63). Have you used these brands and how would you rate them? I just wonder why the rear is so much cheaper than the rear (apart from the brands). Given this setup is expected to give better bite at the front compared to the rear, would this be unbalanced? (hence making the front during much more effort the the breaking? Cheers DD

Hi Guys... My clutch is starting to slip and soon it's time to get a new clutch. My car is lightly modified, so don't need a heavy duty one. Read before that there's a group buy, but not sure if it's still on. For those who has replaced their clutch recently with stoker / close to stocker ones, how much did it cost you, including labour? Thanks heaps, DD

One small body ceramic for me please - DD4321 Thanks
-
That's right. I just converted my HKS SSQV from atmo to pulmb back. Too early to tell if it improves fuel efficiency, but early indication is pretty good though. The car is not running as rich as before. Got the kit from BD4 for $35... money well spent...

Brake Pads For R33gtst
dd4321 replied to dd4321's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
What's the deal with Ferodo brake pads? Heard a good wrap about the DS2500 series, but went to the website (http://www.ferodomotorsports.com/main.htm) and they only have the excel, formula, premier, GP2 and 4WD series.... Does this DS2500 series actually exist? Also, is it OK to run different set of brake pads / rotors on front and rear? Thinking of getting slotted rotors with decent brake pads for the front, but leave the rear as is (stock)... is this a reasonable approach or just plain dangerous? Thanks DD -
As my brake pads have worn out, it's now time to get a new set. I've done a search on the forum and could not exactly find what I am looking for. I don't need those that will stick your nose to the windscreen once you slam the brake as I am quite happy with the stock Nissan ones. However, if I can get a better ones would be great, as long as the price is OK... prefer not to spend over $130 a pair. I heard that Bendix Ultimate are pretty decent and would probably meet my criteria, but I heard that they are very dusty. How much better is the Ultimate compared to the Advance (basic ones)? I also heard Hawk and RB (Racing Brake) are pretty decent brands, but don't know where I can get them from. Your recommendations are much appreciated! Would be good if you could include the price and place where I can get them from in Sydney Cheers, DD

Just bought the SSQ plumb back kit from BD4, genuine HKS item for $35, but just the nozzle though. Still trying to figure out what kind of plumbing I can use to connect to the intake pipe. In the mean time, I tightened the BOV adjuster, making the BOV not to vent on low boost. Now I can get flutter and whistle noise at the same time... sounds better than before I reckon. But by doing this, will I harm the BOV itself or the turbo?
-
Has anyone get one of these plump back adaptor? Is this original HKS item? How much? Also, dumb question, does it still make any noise?
-
Since petrol price is skyrocketting, can't afford to let my R33 keep running rich, therefore I am thinking of getting rid of my HKS SSQV atmo BOV. Can anyone recommend a good plumb-back BOV? Also, perhaps a dumb question, but would plumb-back BOV make flutter sound? I note that there have been some arguments that the 'flutter' sound is actually made by air bouncing back to intercooler - doesn't really make sense to me though... Cheers, DD
