Drivers Side Tyre Smacks Underside On Big Bumps. Why?
ausdrift posted a topic in General Maintenance
Little puzzled about a suspension issue at the front. I bought coilovers about 25,000kms ago and about a year ago I changed the spring rates so that the ride is softer. While doing that I broke the damper adjustment dial thing, so I cant change the softness/hardness and don't know what is is. That's the passenger side one. The real problem I have is that while I have the fronts wound up as high as I can, Im finding that on big bumps the drivers side one will bottom out and it appears that the tyre will smack the plastic guard about it in the wheel well. Ive change that adjustment from full hard to full soft, so that's not a factor. Any ideas on what could cause this? And why it appears to just be on the drivers side? -
I've done a search and only found old info, so here it goes. My alignment is way out and I need two new rears, so its time again to get that taken care of. Problem I have is that the previous places I've been to for alignments in the past are either monkeys who don't appear to know what they are doing / don't listen to me, the customer (Kmart, Bob Jane) or don't seem to have much experience in aligning adjustable suspension arms (strange, I know). My R33 has coilovers, a/m sway bars at both ends and front and rear adjustable arms. I also know exactly how I want my car aligned (degrees, measurements, etc) Where can you recommend, east side, that I can trust and knows how to deal with a car like mine? Thanks all

I have a magnaflow VT muffler on custom full system. Louder than stock obviously, but very easy to live with around town and it opens up when I sink the foot in. youtube it for examples

Squeeling Noise Under Acceleration - Belts Or Something Else?
ausdrift replied to ausdrift's topic in General Maintenance
Well I spent a few hours ripping the bay apart. I got down to the turbo and manifold. The good was that there was nothing obvious broken or hanging off, which is almost a little bad in that the answer still isn't clear. That said, I did notice that the manifold to turbo gasket wasn't uniform at the edges, and that on both sides there were gaps, suggesting it may be partially disintegrated and boost could be leaking through. As a stop-gap I pushed into the gaps a little high temp liquid gasket to see if I can seal it up a little, just until I work out what I want to do as a proper solution. Also the turbo nut locking tabs had opened out, but I hear they have a tendency to do this over time. I tightened the nuts a little (4th one cant be accessed tho) and put it all back together. Tomorrow I hope to see if there is any change. -
Squeeling Noise Under Acceleration - Belts Or Something Else?

I was planning to get in there and check it out tomorrow. Good to know it should be visible; nothing worse than a noise you cant find. There are enough of those already -

Now got a quick video I did today https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L_ZHS72JW44&feature=youtu.be Any more ideas, or confirmations? Has this happened to you? -
also be aware that the lower pipe will prob be the new lowest point at the front of your car, so each time you scrape at the front you are grating through the silicone hose. I noticed in time thankfully

my r33 doesnt have one, but i was able to buy a filter for it, so perhaps some do

Squeeling Noise Under Acceleration - Belts Or Something Else?
ausdrift replied to ausdrift's topic in General Maintenance
i did a little test this morning. If i accelerate slowly up to high revs, i cant hear the noise. If i accel hard and get on boost, i hear it. This makes me think it could be a gasket as it doesnt appear to revs related but rather boost/acceleration related. Thoughts? -

Squeeling Noise Under Acceleration - Belts Or Something Else?

i did try accelerating today without ac turned on, but it still made noise. if it was ac clutch/unit would having ac off therefore prove its not that causing it? -
I've noticed recently that when I come onto boost under moderate acceleration I hear a big screech sound which I assumed to be a belt. I've tightened the PS belt 2 times already as after having a look, that one appeared to be the loosest. Now its no longer the loosest, the ac one is, but to be honest, while that one has the most slack, I wouldn't call any of them "loose". This makes me a little confused as to what's making the noise and how serious it is. Background info - Engine done 128k, belts in good condition, belts and tensioners/pulleys all replaced 28,000kms ago, air con compressor works, but leaks green dye and is original. Water pump and timing belt changed with belts. Anyone know what's going on?

I only turned up to watch the last 2 hours, but it looked like a lot of fun; will definitely have to join in the next one! Brought along the o'l SLR and point and shoot, here are two videos and as soon as I can work out how to post them, I have a bunch of pics too. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DJLOrKcl6R4&feature=youtu.be Orange R33 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UrOGVI0q_1M&feature=youtu.be Orange 180SX

They are harder to track. I used to browse the latest issue Drift Tengoku or Option and see what's advertised and what's in the event listings. Either get from Amazon or this place in Melbourne, kangakanga.com . Always try to get the most up to date mag closest to your travel time. Obviously these are written in Japanese, so you'll need some problem solving skills for this, but hey, that's what the internet is for. If you just wanna see a local drift practice day, get drift tengoku and see what events are run at what tracks while you are there, then organize to rent a car for the day and drive up. If you are new to Japan and intimidated by its f**king crazy freeway network (you are forgiven) I have caught the train (easy) to Mobara station and caught a 25? min taxi to Mobara circuit before. You'll get back somehow, perhaps even get a lift like I did. Just be friendly and interested; not hard under the circumstances. Also you can visit Toyota Megaweb in Odaiba And how can you miss D1 Grand prix Odaiba round, April 18/19 While you are at it, there is a Super Autobacs in next to Shinonome station, 2 out from Odaiba. Its less super than it was a decade or two ago, but good to check out (Chain motorbike accessory shop right next to it too) Lastly if you know the names of circuits (eg Fuji circuit, Nikko circuit, Motegi etc) you can use yahoo.co.jp to search by name and see what's there. The bigger ones even have some English. Dude, you are making me jealous!!! (note- I lived there for 7 years, but moved back to Melbourne 3 years ago) Now I wanna go. And now , the best till last, and two I was considering doing next time I'm over check out - omoren.com/en/ and www.facebook.com/IDRjapan

Never heard of any. You would need someone registered to take you in. Try using a car exporter and ask to go with. You are paying them a $1000 fee, usually, to buy it for you anyway
-
I'm sure Sunday, of all days, would be a good start anyway

Cops will block the entrance to the fwy so you are forced to continue driving past. I guess its to stop street racers / shit heads hanging out there. Very annoying especially in my case as I lived in Chiba so it was a bit of a gamble to head all the way out there
