  1. My silvia has killed 2 alternators so I got one fully rebuilt (instead of buying second hand). After getting the car running again I notice the pulley on the alternator is getting very very hot very quickly. It's also loosening the tightening nut off such that the belt keeps slipping (i'm not sure if this is a related problem). Anyone have any wisdom to share on what I should be looking for? I have posted this on NS also but I doubt anyone there would be able to help much.
  2. Hey Gaval and welcome to owning a high performance RWD car. They are loads of fun but definitely something to understand and appreciate before you start driving it (in my opinion). I would strongly strongly recommend sending a PM to this fella http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/m3810.html (Kev) who is probably the most famous driver training dude for the public in Australia . He runs a variety of events, in particular a skid pan, which he can show in practice the theoretics of driving RWD cars. All the best.
  3. You didn't get the RB30e over there I guess? Blocks themselves are quite cheap but the conversion is slightly involved. This forum is the place to start: http://www.skylinesaustralia.com/forums/RB...sions-f184.html Also you should probably talk to some of the dudes at http://www.gtr.co.uk/index.html as they would know better from the UK perspective what is the best path to follow (although if you are deadset on an RB30 the first forum will provide more use I expect). Don't read many mags here sorry.
  4. awesome pictures sewid! WTB 1920x1200 resolution .
  5. My friend is coming along with us to Tokyo so we shouldn't have any shortage of things to do .
  6. yeah people are very wary of grey imports here atm especially in the prestige market.
  7. boggles me why you'd aim for a car which is sold here through the only import system where you can actually get the really rare stuff. Heed Beer's advice on this one .
  8. Hey dudes, I'm visiting Japan for a holiday.. Starting in Tokyo on the 18th we're going to head over to Nagano before heading down to Osaka. We (my GF and I) sort of spontaneously decided to do this so the plans are still up in the air. While the main objectives are to catch up with a friend and for some karate training, I also wanted to explore a bit of the local car scene. My friends BF is an avid drifter in the 'hills' around Nagano so that should be entertaining , but I also wanted to visit Nissan and some car museum type places?, maybe catch a round of D1 or super GT . I notice dr1ft.jp has a calender that mentions D1 round 2 is around the time that I will be there but the location is (日本)富士スピードウェイ. If you have any other ideas I'd love to hear them .
  9. errrr heh.. you do realize they are whaling in... OUR water.. and it is very much OUR business what happens in OUR water? Infact the previous government felt it was so much OUR water we had the tampa crisis and children overboard etc because of it. In AUSTRALIA Whales are a protected species and serious penalties would be issued for anyone found by the government to be killing them. Incidentally the Australia courts found that the whaling by the Japanese vessels in OUR waters was against the law. Hmmm none of our f*cking business you say, au contraire. pps harpooning cows would be immediately banned, and yet as one very close relative of cows.. it is ok to harpoon and they chop up while still alive a large and very graceful whale? It's easy to say this and that.. but go and look up some movies of what whaling actually looks like . pps. comparing overpopulated species such as eastern greys to threatened species such as some of the Whales japan has 'researched' is rather amusing. OH NOES.. SOMEONE KILLED A MOUSE THEREFORE HYPIOCIRITITCICAL POPOLES!
  10. still for sale? would you post to melbourne?
  11. also pm if the above falls through

    Super Gt 2008

Am I reading that page right? the GT-Rs are qualifying a second faster?
  13. lol what a gold little TV segment . Keep up the good work Kev and Co (and ps congrats again ).
  14. So many people spouting a lot of dribble without any understanding of what they are talking about, kind of gives a very poor representation of SAU . 300s are great cars and if you look over to the US (where they didn't get skylines) they have pushed them quite far and shown them to be excellent cars. The link posted earlier about the VG30 engine is a great read and definitely worth looking over, I knew it was a good engine but I hadn't seen that much depth on the making of it before . I'm interested to note that the variable timing got dropped from 96 onwards, why was that? Anyways, I knew several women who want 300s, must be something about the look I guess? none of them had any idea about the workings of a car . I tended to recommend other Nissan's to them based upon my understanding of where the 300 lies in terms of design (at the top of the field, not the bottom) and as such does not suit well to owners with small pockets _or_ little interest in maintenance. My GF drives a silvia which she swears is a better car than my "gtr" .

    Tiny Turbos?

I was standing next to a 1500hp Porsche on saturday, and the turbos didn't look much bigger .

    Gtr Vs. Nsx

Umm last time I was standing next to an NSX I remember thinking how small they are... Those pictures more brought home how far ahead the nissan is in terms of design than the NSX, gosh it's looking dated already. I suppose some may see that in a good way. At the Melb Motorshow I had a good gawk at the GTR, it didn't look enormous. Although it gives the impression of being very very wide .
  17. Ya this is a sneaky problem which is starting to appear quite commonly. Good to update us on that, thanks.
  18. Was great to put some names to faces and I hope to see you guys around.
  19. SO yeah I broke my indicator mount (R32 GTR) What is the best way to go about fixing it? I bought a big thing of epoxy (the two tubes) and was gonna epoxy a small piece of plastic underneath.
  20. A few of the regs from NS are coming, we know the security guys so yea, wouldn't worry too much about that. I'll prolly be a little late cause dinner isn't until 7:30, but i'll defiantely be down. Leanbac come down cause I wanna talk 4 door with ya.
  21. Hmmmmmm PM me a contact number, I might be up for it.
  22. They'll see eye to eye the day people realize that cars are just tools for enjoyment. And that as a means of transport they are rather boring.
  23. lol at the fact that we have one thread laughing at the yanks for pulling the car apart and directly below it another thread with the yanks laughing at us about painting a GTR pink.
  24. He is overwhelmed by the car therefore/hence/ergo he doesn't make himself clear in his explanations as in "wow.. etc". Sorry that wasn't made clear. and to BB, my point is that it doesn't really matter does it? If he makes a big deal about torque, people will think that's a good thing, his use of actual figures is more of a mockery of the irrelevancy of units in that situation, than anything else as far as I can see. Most people that watch the show have never, will never, own that car and nor will comparisons of torques be much more than that they are particularly noticeable or not. Any referal to torque is usually and should usually be shut down, because it is a distribution not a singularity and is therefore very easy to be misleading. 100 torque at 800 RPM, omg what an awesome muscle car!!! Only 10 torque at 10000 RPM what a stupid rice burner!
