2008 370GT - where do you guys mount your mobile phone?
Vee37 replied to Vee37's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
ok, the vent mount arrived today. I'll post more later, but it looks good so far. Its basically held by the vent holder BUT I have multiple cable ties in the back ensuring it doesnt pop out. The phones weight pushes down on the bottom lip, which closes the side holder things. I went over some speed humps, and it was OK. But it was a short drive. I didn't spend anytime perfecting the positioning. I used the same supports (cable tie arrangements) from my previous old test holder; it positioned pretty good. The bottom right corner of the phone aligns with the steering wheel and indicator stalk. ie screen is un-obstructed while driving. And the top of the screen is much below the bottom of the winds-screen. I'll adjust it to be higher later, but its good where it is. The only negatives so far 1. The "silicon padding" on the side is wafer thin; its like glad wrap. Expected for the cheap Chinese (delivered from AUS) I bought for $16, but it arrived pretty quick. Bought the 12th and arrived 16th, this morning. 2. The side holders align to my volume controls. So when I was first fiddling with it, it changed my volume. Pixel 4a. But was fine when I was simply driving or touching the screen or taking it in and out. One unexpected bonus was how easy it was to put in the holder. It opens up when you take the phone out (gravity and no weight on the bottom lever), and so you just drop the phone in, and the phones weight clamps the sides in. All one handed and a single motion. My previous one required me to squeeze the sides to hold the phone. I'll post some photos of the supports/cable ties in the coming days. This is the one, there are plenty like it for sale on eBay. -
Actually, I think you are correct. (Somewhere here I made you doubt your memory. My bad... ) I found this parts diagram for the front rotor, and it clearly shows it as a screw / bolt with a spacer. (Bottom left) https://partsouq.com/en/catalog/genuine/unit?c=Nissan&ssd=%24*KwE2AhN_bl93d0YzQHofHm56Wl1DMj0wMSMwJmBFeSFwJzgiHnFjJmhlYCY_WSIFYm0oJ1oxJikgWG5xEnl7d2pgRXkiMDorJj86NjEpIG06MG0-J1oxJikgdT5xdSYxMTBFJTIwb3EyenNrZ0R-IGkpcXUmQ1BCSUAgLH86PCY_IEBPUzE2aWN8NTA3ISgnZ2F_aRRZeAAAAAClhw-n%24&vid=0&cid=16&uid=351943&q=CKV36-403155

HEY! when I was reading your first few lines, I though I was reading my own post! The big diff is mine is black. Take care when opening the boot if its been in the sun!!!! I bought a car advertised as an SP (But I think its only an S with BOSE audio). In VIC (Melbourne), and drove it up to NSW (Sydney). Which sites did you use that said yours was an SP? I am now in the process of getting a blue slip to register it here in NSW. My guys have had issues with reading the Engine Number. Did your guys have any issues? is there a trick? I got the location, but it looks pretty deep.Any other things to be weary of or watch out for? I have tinted glass on the back and quarter glass things, but it is not privacy glass. I was also told by the people that tinted my door windows (which were clear) that the factory tinting is not protective against UV nor IR. I am thinking (once the rego crap is sorted) of getting the lightest but highest IR & UV) film put over it.

2008 370GT - where do you guys mount your mobile phone?
Vee37 replied to Vee37's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
Thanks, but one requires drilling holes in the dash. Not something I am prepared to commit to, and it looks too low anyway. And the second would mean a cable traversing across my field of view, or at least across the steering wheel column (messy) while It was charging. No worries, the whole thread is titled as 370GT. You may of been put off as I mentioned my previous car, which was a 350GT. -
2008 370GT - where do you guys mount your mobile phone?

Mine should arrive by Friday (from ebay, aus location), so I will have it installed over the weekend. If you wait, I will post up pics and stuff and let you know if it works, or if my idea is a fail, before you waste ya time & money. -
The closest point would be nearest the center. They are kind of deep dish, with the 5 spokes getting further and further out as you move away from the center. Its the inside region that concerns me. Once you move away from the center, there is plenty of space. Although mine are nowhere near as deep as these, it will give you an idea how its only near the center they encroach on the brakes. I think it was this video that got me to buy these rims in the first place about 5 years ago, but for my 350GT. Now I have a black 370GT coupe. EDIT: and those are 20" while mine are 19" and are staggered.

Realised later, by Chamfered, I really meant COUNTERSUNK. See, now you make me want to spend more money chasing this, as my heavily under flush wheels on the 350GT would probably sit perfectly flush with my guards on the 370GT. I still think that the fronts are not going to have the clearance of the brembo's. The tyre guy thought if it wasnt for the extra stud, they would of fit. Is there any rule of thumb as to how much clearance one should have between the brakes (ie caliper holders) and the wheel? Im thinking under load, they will flex/bend, possibly fouling the brakes.

2008 370GT - where do you guys mount your mobile phone?
Vee37 replied to Vee37's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I found a possible solution, similar to what I did in my 350GT. Basically, I have created a secure mount that hooks into the air-vent between the display screen and the drivers dials. I cant take a photo it, as the phone is mounted when its in its place. This first hack is a concept test. but the phone is high and its secure (I use plastic cable ties to hold the phone mount. The top of the screen almost perfectly aligns with the bottom of my screen from the drivers position (so it does not obstruct view, and doesn't require looking down). I do loose 3/4 of my air vet, but I have plans to maybe stick it out a little from the vent, thus allowing it to be on. These cable ties are pretty unbreakable, so the phone isnt going anywhere. They are often used as handcuffs. As I said, I basically used the same placement on my 350GT, but that was lower, and also had a bendable flexy arm thingy down to the cigarette lighter, to provide charging. -
No, was in a rush, and wasn't personally sure they would clear the front brakes, so just moved on. Regret it now with the quote below! If you look at this video where the guy replaces the rotor, the orig has the stud (Video cued to the right point in time) But on the replacement, there is no stud. The "P" models of a V36 have Brembo's ARGGGHHHH! It was a mobile Tyre guy. I did mobile so he would come out to me, instead of me lugging my large wheels and two cars, to my regular wheel guys, and then lugging the 4 spares into my tight garage. From memory, the stud didn't look like it was a nut that could be gripped with pliers or such, and the replacement parts I have seen on-line, *look* like the opposite side is chamfered (ie larger on the inside) so it looked like I would need to take the rotors off to pull out the stud backwards. But, I did not confirm it. The wheels when on my 350GT are overly inset (PLENTY of space till the guards on the V35. Bugged me the sales people didn't point that out to me before). If I did put them on my V36, would they push out more to fill the guards? or be even further inset? You imply they will stick out more, by how much approximately? I checked multiple places on-line and the offsets were all over the place and different between web sites (diff between V35 & V36). I was ready to undo (as I now did because of the stud) if the offsets were bad, after a test fit; which is how we found the stud. He span the wheel twice, testing each partial rotation / bolt position.
-
I just got a 370GT and tried transferring my custom RIMs from my 350GT to the 370. Annoyingly, we found that there was an unexpected stud in addition to the wheel bolts. Which my custom RIMs didn't account for. We were testing if they would clear the brembo's. The wheel guy thought they would (I wasnt so sure), but maybe the stud is a manufacturers (ie Brembo) check to ensure only wheels that would clear, could be used. The wheel guy said he had only seen such a stud before on an Alfa, and he personally had custom big breaks on his car, and it had no such stud. Is this a stopper to ensure only "certified by brembo", compatible wheels are used? Are other people shaving this stud off? PS: Does anyone want to buy some Stance SC-5 rims with new tyres....

I now recently got a 370GT, but for the last 11 years, I had a 350GT. At one stage, I had a failure of one of my ignition coils. When the car warmed up, the rough idle and misfire went away. The weird thing for me was that the ignition coil fault code actually triggered the VCD warning light. Until fixed it, I would clear the code after warming up, turn off and restart the car, and it would work as normal. I guess my point is that one fault can trigger other warnings that seem totally unrelated. I guess that may be related to a limp mode.
-
And nothing returned. As i said, I already purchased the car, so I understand that I have accepted it for what it is. As you said, it met my minimum required feature list (I am annoyed the BOSE audio in the 370 is substantially lesser quality audio than in the 350). But, I would just like to know. And I guess others thinking of buying or selling, may read this thread to understand what to read into people saying its an "S" "P" or "SP". The guy I bought it from said it was an SP, but I think its an S with some extra options (it has cloth inserts instead of full leather, and not 7 way adjustable seats). I was thinking it would be a simple thing to determine, maybe stamped on a plate at the factory. But obviously not. I have to admit, I have yet to check the plates in the engine bay to see if there are any clues there.

2008 370GT - where do you guys mount your mobile phone?

Hey, that's is not a holder, but a replacement/extension of the system. My problem is that what I can get my rooted phone to do, would not be practically possible on this 3rd party system. I am an android developer. Also, the audio quality and flexibility from my modified phone is truly brilliant. These same change would more than likely not be possible on a system such as this. And hence a holder for my phone. On my previous 350GT I built and installed a purpose built computer in my boot to replace/extend the built in screen/functions/navigation of the stock car, but eventually, I moved to using my phone. It was better, and now I had two screens at once. Navigation on one (the phone) and fuel economy on the other (the car screen) -
This may lead to an answer. Do you know if it was possible for someone to option down from full leather to leather/cloth? I guess what I am getting at, is are the leather seats only unique to P? Or could a base model option up to leather seats? It makes sense that a buyer could pick and chose any option from any starting point, but get a discount if they buy the Package that nissan have built, with the exact options already included. ie base+leather+BOSE etc would be more expensive that a P package where they are included as a package. Originally I thought the 4WAS was the differentiating factor (for the S package), but you have not mentioned it. My one has paddle shift, and a very stiff suspension and 19" wheels +probably more, but its seats are half leather, so I would guess its an S. But it also has the BOSE audio; which is rubbish compared to the BOSE in a 350GT😒 My little obsession of exactly what it is, is because the seller advertised it as an SP, but I think its an optioned up S. I purchase it as it had the options I specifically wanted, and a few more, and is Black, so for the price I was happy. Actually almost wishing against the stiffer suspension. I have seen list like that )and that specific one), but I guess it comes down to: Is there any option within each package that could ONLY be attained by buying that package. ie a "slam dunk", IF the car has it, but could be uncertain if it doesn't, as someone may have optioned down. eg not getting the stiffer suspension on an S model. Actually, just looked for what it does say about the BOSE audio, and that link says there are 4 speakers in the rear parcel shelf. I am sure I read somewhere else that there were three, and mine has three. I remember skimming over something that mentioned a different body styling? Are the model difference between S, P & SP such a blurry line?

So chances are it isn't an issue with my car only, but possibly an issue with the V36 itself. I thought maybe a sub and a tweeter had died. Its the low range and the highs that are lacking compared to the 350GT. And we will never know why, as BOSE don't publish their specifications. I am faaaaar from being a fan of BOSE as a brand. The fact they dont publish/test specs annoys me. However, the stereo in my 350GT was brilliant.I pumped into it through Android, using Viper. I guess I am going to need to consider adding to the stereo system. I went for a premium 370GT in a big part because of the stereo, incorrectly thinking it would of been as good as in the 350GT.

V36 Centre Console Storage Bin Inputs
Vee37 replied to Low/slow370GT's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I just got my 370GT Coupe on Friday, and I also have these. Its an SP; supposedly I have the 2009 Infinity G37 User manual, and found the following. So, it looks like it may be an INFINITY iPod connection. Get the manual, its easy to find, and is priceless for things like this; at least for the 48hrs I have owned the car... -
2008 370GT - where do you guys mount your mobile phone?
Vee37 replied to Vee37's topic in V Series (V35, V36, V37 & Infiniti)
I haven't tested my CD player. All my music is MP3's on my phone, My previous 350GT, like all others had a broken CD player, so I keep forgetting to take a CD down to the car for a test. Have you checked before and after that nothing gets borked by the CD holder? I think that location looks promising as I dont use the onboard player. The ;last guy who had the car hadn't converted it to English, and all the HDD music is K-Pop or Japanese. He leant me his Bluetooth to radio converter for my loooooong trip home. On my 350GT, I had a long flexible arm thing that plugged into the lighter, came up to the air vent (directly above it) and I used a hidden plastic cable-tie behind it to hold the phone to the air vent. I might give a vent mount a go, with a hidden plastic cable tie. But charging will possibly be an issue, as I also don't have wireless charging (Pixel 4a), but the battery last pretty well. The CD Mount looks good, but at worst, may be a little low. -
I just bought a 2008 370GT. I use to own a 2003 350GT. I found a pretty good mounting option for my phone (for nav and ODBII), with the only negative was that it blocked one of the vents, just to the left of the steering wheel. With this 370 GT, I really am struggling to see where I count mount my phone so its in clear view, without blocking other controls. Where/how do you guys mount it? When I was searching to buy, I did see something that looked like its mounting was inserted into the CD slot. I use the music from my phone, so I can loose the CD slo0t, but it just looks like it would damage the CD player and its mechanism.

That sounds EXACTLY what I was looking for. However, when I entered my VIN at https://nissan-europe.epc-data.com/search_frame it doesn't return anything. I note the URL has "Europe" in it; obviously mine came from Japan. I tried clicking on the "Japan" link, but when I executed the search, it went back to Europe, and again did not find anything.

I just upgraded from A 350GT Premium to a 370GT SP. Both have a BOSE sound system, on which I use direct AUX inputs to pump my Android phone out (with MAJOR sound mods, see Viper); NB the 350 nneedded a special cable, 370 has an input point in the centre console/armrest. Now, The sound coming out of my 350GT was incredible. The sound from the 370GT is nowhere near as good. Were there different levels of BOSE audio in the 370GT? Are there any details about either system? such as watts frequency range or ... etc... And yes I know that BOSE are NOT big on publishing numbers, they simply sell on the basis of"it sounds good) Basically, I would of expected the 370GT to be as good or even better, but it is not. My other possibility is that one of the speakers or amps are dead. Specifically the Sub. The sound system is VERY important to me. I use the AUX, so its the sound not the features.

Hi, I use to have a 350GT Coupe, and posted here as Vee35. I just upgraded to a 370GT. and hence Vee37( yes I know its a V36, but its the 370GT that I know it as) The car appears to have all the options, and it was sold as an SP; but it was a good price and had the min features I needed, so I didnt look into before diving in with a purchase. My Question: How can you tell that a V36 is an SP as opposed to say a base model with ALL (or many) of the options of an SP? Is there one feature of an SP that could not be optioned in?
