  1. I suspect the radiator may be out of an aussie R30, as there is a blanking panel added to the drivers side to cover up part of the opening in the radiator supoort panel.

  6. in SE QLD, best way to learn is in things like: - motorkhana - cheap and learn car control in a safe, low speed environment. Holden Sporting Car Club and Gold Coast Tweed motorsport Club run alot of motorkhanas. - Autocross - smooth dirt (decomp granite) race track with plenty of run off area - low grip and relatively low speed make this an excellent place to learn car control. And have far too much fun in the process. Entry is cheap too. They also have practice days with cheaper entry and less cars - so more track time. Ipswich West Moreton Auto Club run the Autocross. Nothing like time behind the wheel, no matter where it is, for improving the skills. Just get involved with a CAMS affiliated club, get your licence and get out there to as many events as you can at as many different venues as possible! Rod Browning (ex rally guru) runs advanced driver training days at Morgan Park too. Mt Cotton driver training centre has a skidpan and circuits/roads. And Total Driver run training days too - sometimes at Lakeside!
  7. interesting. will have to check out the new CAMS regs then.
  8. don't octagon have their own tech regs - nothing to do with CAMS? They certainly used to. And I remember a year or two ago they (octagon) made the regs consistent for Targa Tas and Classic Adelaide, with the exception that turbo awd's are not allowed in Classic Adelaide and the obvious age restrictions... I think these new CAMS regs are basically to bring Rally Tasmania, a traditional lead-up event for Targa, more into line with Octagon's regs.
  9. Following on from the GTR cruise where a few people are interested in coming out to Mt Cotton to check it out and maybe have a go at the Mt Cotton Come and Try Day on the 21st of May, I thought I might start a new thread to let everyone know about it and other things happening around the place. All the info for the Come and Try day is in the link above. Its aimed at people who have never driven there before, or never even been on a race track at all. If you're curious about what hillclimbing is like, or want to see the track from the driver's seat, this is your chance! You don't need to have a CAMS licence, or a fire extinguisher or anything. Just a helmet and ankle to wrist non-synthetic clothing and closed footwear. The 2nd round of the Tighe Cams Hillclimb Series is on May 7. I'll be there in the GTR, and jmac will probably be there in his 34 GTT as well. Come along and have a look (free to spectate) and decide if you want to have a go at the Come and Try day on the 21st. MG Car Club's Hillclimb page Now onto the really good stuff! QLD Challenge Touring Road Event - Aug 26 This is like a mini targa, or a mini dutton rally, run over a full day and without the expensive entry fees or the need for a rollcage. This is the pick of the bunch of BSCC's (Brisbane Sporting Car Club) Touring Road Events. It's heavily focussed on special tests rather than navigation stages, and there are normally 7 or 8 special tests over the day at various locations between Ipswich and Toowoomba including Prince Henry Drive - a closed road stage on the edge of the Towoomba range. As well as closed roads at Gatton College and Wivenhoe Dam, plus a couple of motorkhanas and a speed test at Willowbank Dragstrip. Awesome fun! Entry fee is about $120 for the day. All you need is a CAMS L2S licence for both yourself and your navigator, along with the usual saftey gear and apparel. A 2kg fire extinguisher is required for rally regs - they also acept two 1kg extinguishers. I always look forward to this event! It would be great to get a few GTRs on this to stir up the WRX club who always have a number of entries with strongly modified cars. This is always a popular event with competitors. The website hasn't been updated this year yet, but it will give you the general idea of what the event is all about http://www.queenslandchallenge.com/ Fulcrum Suspensions Touring Road Event - June 17 Another good TRE run in conjunction with Coates Rally Queensland. Stops at Coates Rally Queensland Service Park at Imbil for lunch, and includes a number of special tests sometimes including the tarmac special stage at Imbil used by the QRC field. In past years when i have competed or run as sweep, they have used Roadcraft driver training centre at Gympie, Noosa Hillclimb - the long version run by QRC called Hella Hillclimb Stage, and a couple of motorkhanas, but the tests and locations can vary year to year. There is a bit of navigation in this one, but its not too hard once you get the hang of it, and BSCC run a "rally school" night before at their clubrooms at West End to show you how its done, and have a chat and a beer with the other competitors before the event. I'm planning on doing this one as a lead-up to the QLD Challenge. I'll post the supp regs when they come out.
  10. the 2nd Round of the Hillclimb Series on the 7th of May is the one see if you want to watch. The "Come and Try" day on the 21st is for those who want to try it out for themselves without the pressure of competition. Come and check the place out on the 7th and decide if you want to have a drive there yourself on the 21st. Harry
  11. all the info here http://www.mgccq.org.au/2006%20Registratio...estMay%2006.pdf
  12. RYN26, its free to get into the hillclimb to watch. the practice days are fairly cheap too. I frankxy - I've got more good roads ready and waiting for another cruise whenever everyone is ready! arbess - yeah some of those heavily on-cambered 2nd gear corners through Kenillworth State Forest (just after that road with all the cattle grids) were very nice. They just don't make corners like that anymore! and all within the speed limit too!
  13. you must be getting me confused with the other white GTR but some of those tighter twisty sections can be enjoyable well within the speed limit (and the car/driver limits of course) if you do want to see me driving madly, come along to the next hillclimb at MtCotton on Sunday 7th of May... I'll do a run or two on those street tyres just for laughs! and there's a come and try day on the 21st if you decide you want to have a drive there yourself. Not a competition, just driving around the track as fast or slow as you are comfortable. Its a way for newbies to have a try at hillclimbing, or just for people who want to see what the track looks like from the drivers seat.
  14. hehe, guilty as charged... I kinda expected that road to get people talking, but more because of the bumps, grids, and bridges than cattle blocking the road! Thanks to everyone for coming along - that's what made it a good day. I'm sure Sam would agree it makes it all worthwhile when you see everyone enjoying themselves. Big thanks to Sam for doing all the hard yards organising the prizes, sausage sizzle and everything. I just did the fun bit - choosing the roads.
  15. maps/instructions are printed and ready to go. cruise is 148.9km with a break halfway near Malaney, so even the thirstiest of GT-R's should make it no worries. We've got a good variety of roads through some nice country - should be a good day. i know I'm looking forward to it. For anyone coming from Brisbane, those major roadworks at Burpengary just before the Morayfield BP and still happening. They almost always cause delays, often traffic comes to a standstill there, so allow an extra 10-15 minutes to get there in time.
  16. true, whenever you're trying to beat your own lap times its a challenge, no matter what the car is. OK, here's the secret - blue R34's are faster! nah, i've done LOTS of laps there. after watching a JDM Option DVD, we started our own tsukuba super lap challenges there almost every week with a couple of blokes. it took me quite a few consecutive laps to get that time (about 15 or 16 laps in a row), and i don't think there's much more I can get out of it. i always turn all the assistance off on every car. and i use the standard dualshock controller too.
  17. I don't normally use stock cars either, but the stock GTR thing suggested here was a good bit of fun becasue it was something different, and was a level playing field for everyone. Instead of who's got the most power, who's got the softest tyres, who uses NOS or who fitted wings... I prefer mildly tweaked cars (like you could possibly own/drive yourself) rather than just fully bombing every car and using the softest race tyres available. I tried the race tyres a couple of times and found it boring because the cars are much more 'glued to the track'. Sure you go faster, but its much easier to drive them and is less of a challenge - ie less fun. With sports tyres you need to have the setup right and really drive the best lines to get the best out of the car too, but its not so easy to do with alot less grip. It means you need more finesse in your braking, turn-in, apexing, and power down than you do with super soft race tyres which make it much more arcade-racer-ish. In this case with the stock GTR, you couldn't mess with the setup, so you had to adjust yourself to the car and alter your driving style to get the best out of it. You don't have heaps of grip from a set of super soft race tyres to make up for your hamfistedness - you have to coax the car around the race track and try to keep it tidy - controlled aggression. personally, i think that's much more challenging than simply adjusting the setup until the car is as easy as possible to drive around...
  18. Have you tried Craig at Hornibrook Tyres? I'm sure you will get a better deal out of him than Tyretech! Harry
  19. this is more like it. NOS, racing tyres, and wings take all the fun out of driving the cars. I had a go at it this stock R34 GTR (base model) on sports soft tyres challenge this afternoon... 1:00.298 but I have done a heap of laps of this track and I've only ever used sports tyres on any of my cars - except for a brief fascination with the LasVegas drag strip and american muscle cars....
  20. I believe if you loose your licence on accumulated demerit points, you are given the option of a 3mth suspension or 6mth 1pt licence.
  21. thought I'd add a few of my skyline shots. apologies for the pixelation on the first one - its one I copied from PS2 to usb stick, but is my favourite action shot
  22. hard race tyres?
  23. tskuba is kinda my specialty. after watching a JDM option tsukuba super lap DVD, we kinda had a superlap challenge with a variety of tuned JDM cars on Sports Soft tyres. My best Nissan times: 89 R32 GT-R 731bhp 1215kg 55.127 (no wings) Z32 557bhp 1292kg +wing 57.615 S15 340bhp 1128kg +wing 58.819 i refuse to install nitrous on any of my cars you guys running sub 50's, please tell me that's not on street tyres!
  24. how did we get from to F1 cars??? I haven't played GT4 in ages, but I'll fire it up tonight and see what times I have. I like KamikazeR33's idea too maybe coz i know I've got a pretty good time with the GTR LM Road Car there. hehe
  25. I can't agree on comments about the naivety of the JDM aftermarket suspension industry. Look at the exhaustive range of quality components available for every concievable suspension component, and chassis bracing components. And then look at the range of JDM manufacturers making all that stuff. Australia's aftermarket suspension industry is amatuer hour by comparison. We can barely make a swaybar that fits properly...
