took the GTR for a bit of a drive on the weekend. got a very nice route from Aspley Hypermarket to Maleny sorted out , including a couple of nice country roads i'm pretty sure no-one here will have driven before - some of my favourite secret roads I think everyone will enjoy them. One of them has been resurfaced since last time I drove it - its even better now! Looking forward to meeting with Baysidebluebnr34 this weekend to sort out the rest of the route.

from my previous post, which is directly out of the 3J regs in the CAMS manual: DOTARs doesn't count. You must be mistaken about seeing one compete at the nationals in Tas. Or maybe they didn't get a full grid and invited other categories to make up numbers? the list of specially approved models is 1. Mitsubishi Mirage Cyborg (to cater for ex Mirage Cup cars) 2. Nissan Silvia S13 (turbo and naturally aspirated) that's it -

that's simply a definition of make and model, and you interpretation is correct, but that sentence does not make any make or model of vehicle eligible. You need to read the section on eligible vehicles. Eligibilty is granted on a per vehicle basis, not on a model family basis. -

No an R32 GTST is not eligible for IPRA. The only grey imports legal for IPRA ar e R32 GTR and S13 Silvia. To be eligible for IPRA, a car must be either: 1) Group A homologated 2) commercially available to the public in asutralia as new cars through a manufacturer's dealer network, or 3) otherwise recognised by CAMS...for group 3J S13 silvia is the only grey import recognised by CAMS for IPRA http://www.cams.com.au/bulletins/B06-019%2...%20Vehicles.pdf. So an S13 chassis is allowed, but only with S13 silvia body. And only with CA18 and SR20 engines that were available in that model. Not permitted to run a 6cyl engine in that chassis, as the block must have the same number of cylinders/rotors as standard, and the same configuration of cylinders as the standard car (ie in-line, horizontally opposed). S14 and S15 are eligible as they were sold here. R32 GTST is not eligible. R32 GTR is group A homologated, and therefore OK. No R33 or R34 is eliglible. only allowed to use engines from eligible vehicles, so RB20 and RB25 variants are not allowed. No eligible vehicle had them. RB30 is OK, and cyl heads on approved blocks are free for early model vehicles. If you use a non-standard head or block in a late model vehicle, you must comply to minimum racing weights- ie 1602-2000cc (non turbo) 1045kg. turbo 1.8 or 2L 4cyl = 3001-4000cc 1285kg, but they must have the same number of cyl in the same config as the standard car- eg in-line 4cyl can only be replaced by another inline 4cyl engine from the same manufacturer. -

I love crushing dreams! R32gtst is not IPRA eligible. -
good work on getting straight into organising another cruise, Baysidebluebnr34. Alot of people very keen on this, so thanks for going to the effort - much appreciated by all of us GTR owners. If you would like an extra hand on working out a route, and running it in advance to iron it all out and time it etc I'm happy to help.

a few years back Darren Appleton was competing in the QLD Super Sprint Series in his black 180SX. This car had pretty much everything - no expense spared. It was very fast and running on slicks. One round he was unable to bring the 180 and used his R32 GTR road car instead. Basically stock but with coilover suspension. He used the 180's slicks. Times were within a couple of sec over 4 laps IIRC. It was very close to the full house 180's times. for short standing start events, like hillclimbs and street sprints such as Gatton. The GTR will have a huge advantage off the start line and traction out of corners on cold rubber. personally, and I have raced rwd cars very competitively for years, I think the R32 GTR drives very much like a rwd car. the only difference is that when you get sideways, you're still accellerating damn hard at the same time. They also feel very nimble, direct, and responsive. They really drive like a much lighter car. either one will be alot of fun and can be very competitive. but you've got the GTR - use it! or sell it to me - it looks the business -

Hi Neil, if you want to see what a relatively stock GTR can do at a hillclimb, come along to Mt Cotton on the 26th. Gramzow Rd, Mt Cotton. You will see it in the UBD as "MG Car Club". Basically next door to MT Cotton Driver Training Centre. Mine has standard turbos, standard boost, 3.75" exhaust, Mines ECU, Buddy Club coilovers and adj castor rods. My old 2L 1200 coupe ran a best of 48.37, so I'm hoping for at least 2 sec quicker in the GTR. It was good enough for 3rd outright at Bathurst's Mountain Straight Hillclimb. And there were some BIG power rwd sport sedans there. A decent near standard GTR is a pretty good bit of gear that really doesn't need too much done to it to be very fast on the track. My opinion on the tyres/brakes/fuel costs for hillclimbs and sprints are that the difference will be negligable. tyre wear and brakes are not really concerns for such short events. A set of tyres will easily last 2 years. As for which would be faster at street sprints out of those two cars. Over such a short distance like gatton, a silvia is gonna have to work awful hard to make up the start line advantage of the GTR. Same goes for any short, standing start event. You have a GTR, get out there and have a go. If you want, you can always sell later, but I suspect you'll love hillclimbing and sprinting it. Harry -
uh-oh. I just had a quick dig around - I didn't like the sound of the Juniper Development Group who've been invited to the next stage of the tender process. Juniper "develops tourist concept and resort style accommodation". Smells to me like another of those "golf course resort communities" in the pipelines - the golf course is already adjoining Lakeside Raceway - makes this alot less expensive for the developers. And the Golf Club were interested in getting hold of the land when Lakeside closed down... The track and other registered areas are only protected until May 2010. maybe I'm too cynical?

no Adrian, you've got it arse about. going harder/stiffer at one end will increase the slip angle at that end, and prompt that end to slide earlier. so going stiffer at the front will change the balance towards understeer. stiffer at the rear will change the balance towards oversteer. I think you're really not going to get rid of it until you get the camber/castor happening. either that or more power!

I'm sure I get about 450km to a tank. I'll have to pay closer attention to the next tank. I haven't really bothered checking since I first got the car last year, and the memory might be failling judging by what everyone else seems to be getting... R32GTR. takes about 65l to fill. Mines ECU and 3.75" HKS exhaust. standard turbos and boost.
-
the following is an article appearing in today's local paper: the first real encouraging words (and actions!) from council about Lakeside since they bought the facility. And the most promising part of this is they have already completed their obligations under the Planning and Environment Court agreement - they are not under any obligation to do this. I'm trying real hard not to get too excited!

I've got to disagree about wet weather grip on R compounds. I've driven on a few different types of R compound tyre and no normal street tyre (even S03s and the like) are ever going to match their grip levels in the wet. I currently run Bridgestone RE55S on my GTR and rate them very highly. I've driven the GTR on them at a Mt Cotton practice day at the end of last year in torrential rain, and the grip was fantastic - way better than 'good'. It was that wet the hills had flowing water running down them, and there was standing water pooling up in the hairpin. Toyo Proxes RA01 are renowned for their wet weather ability when new, but unfortunately don't really start to work their best in the dry until they are worn right down to the second dimple in the tread depth indicator. Some scrutineers won't let you run when they are that low on tread.... The serious competitors buff these tyres prior to use to get them closer to this optimum dry performance level. They are a very soft compound and do not last well in multilap events, but are the gun tyre for hillclimbing. They also have a very different feel due to their soft sidewall construction. The new Toyo 888s are reportedly very good all round tyres, and most of the other name brand R compounds are pretty good all rounders. I haven't tried the new Yoko 048, but the IPRA guys say it is faster and stays faster for more laps than the old 032R. I've used the 032R and it was a pretty good tyre for the hillclimbs and supersprints i do. Its always hard to compare different R compound tyres, because most people have only driven on one or two types, but I'd highly recommend the Bridgestone RE55S. I'm very happy with them after running at Mt Cotton and Bathurst hillclimbs.

I'm not trying to be a smart-arse, but just thought we should check you have got the full soft and full hard swaybar settings right. full soft is using the holes at the end of the bar and full hard is the holes furtherest from the end. personally, for track use, I'd be running toe out on the front as suggested, and you could also toe out the rear a little too - try zero rear toe for starters. another thing you could try is changing the pineapple setup. If you went for the traction based setup, try going to a neutral setup. are the shocks adjustable in the whiteline kit? and does it start understeering the moment you get on the gas when exiting a corner?

Gibson Motorsport Group C Bluebird Pics
hrd-hr30 posted a topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
there definitely seems to be alot of interest in the old Gibson Nissans, so here's some pics from the current owner of one of the Group C Bluebirds! Group C Bluebird I think its the Fury driven Bluebird lots of detail pics, but be warned: they are very high res and not dialup friendly. -
SPARC is still going. they're definitly struggling, but still going. at thier recent AGM they voted in a new commitee who say they want to revive the club and attract new members. Membership fees are now reduced to $35. you can run stock standard cars at CAMS events - hillclimbs, sprints, supersprints, autocrosses, dirt sprints, motokhanas, street spints, road rallies (touring road events), khanacrosses... the only mods you need are some basic safety items like a fire extinguisher. You can do all those on a L2 licence. Its only if you want to go door to door circuit racing, or rallying, that you need a cage and all the other gear.

the Azenis RT215 really isn't an R compound tyre. far too hard and lacks the outright grip of a true R compound. Better than a normal street tyre though and probably not a bad choice if you only have one set of rims, because they'll last alot longer than a proper R tyre on the street. I've used the Azenis RT215, a Hankook Z2000 race tyre, Yoko A032R, and Bridgestone RE55S. The Azenis are about 1.5 to 2 sec slower at Mt Cotton than the proper R tyres. Talk to Craig at Hornibrook Tyres. He's the cheapest around for motorsport tyres, and he'll look after club motorsport competitors because he is one himself! He's a regular at Mt Cotton and motorkhanas etc. Tell him Harry put you onto him. 5 Basalt Street, Geebung QLD 4030 Phone 3865 1072 Mobile 0401 474 745

Pics Of R30 Skyline Touring Car From Winton Today
hrd-hr30 replied to Z1LLA's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
you know the the true facts, do you? first off, they ran hollinger boxes back in Group A days. So your opinion on its authenicity really isn't looking particulary impressive. if it was the real deal, and you were respraying it int he exact same scheme, would you have messed the colours up so badly? Its like he just guessed they used the Nissan Light Blue instead of a darker PJ colour. No way a panel beater has colour matched that from the original car. And if it does have log books, why did the buzz mention he's trying to prove it was the original Group A GMS Skyline? doesn't make sense. -
my plain jane HR30 has air, p/steer, & electric mirrors (that don't work) EDIT: and the electronic adj shocks (which also didn't work) manual windows, and open R200. Heaps of sound deadening though - that stuff is everywhere! but the best part is it has a straight six, like all proper skylines

Rose Jointed Adjustable Caster Bars
hrd-hr30 replied to Ghostrider's topic in Classic & Vintage (1950's-1980's)
sorry mate. rules always spoil the fun. I have the same problem with my GTR if that's any consolation. it came with rose jointed castor rods... I can get away with it at my local hillclimb because they have a separate class for AWD turbo cars that isn't a recognised category and has no published rules! but for anything else, I'm sport sedan, just because of 2 lousy rose joints... grrr -

this is how they were in 86 and early 87 and this is how they looked for the rest of 87 season shame it is so far removed from original with the bodykit, dash etc
