  1. the double DRS zone worked exactly as intended/designed. the whole point of DRS is not to encourage racing, its to ensure there's passing so noone can criticise F1 in the media about the lack of overtaking like they used to.
  2. Schuey's back!!! yes, until he was robbed of the podium, and we were robbed of the battle yet again, by the ludicrously easy DRS free passes. And not only do they get the free pass, they also get DRS down the next straight to romp away with it. DRS - gayer than aids I'd say Button had the pace to get him without DRS, but Webber mad eit very obvious he had no answer for Schuey without DRS, both before he had DRS at his disposal and after the DRS walk-over. Even then Weber could't pull away from Schuey despite having a far better car. point made though - those guys were only faster because of their cars, not the drivers. Least deserving podium ever in history.
  3. lol what a goose - he was fairly unequivocal in the post race interviews about who he felt was at fault in all those situations. can only laugh at him back-flipping now. So Lewis, if the other drivers weren't at fault, who's the "frickin ridiculous" one now???
  4. I have an identical 330mm Sparco wheel in normal leather I could let go for a reasonable price if you're interested? I've been using a deep dish wheel on the street and discovered at the last track day when I bolted the Sparco on that I've grown too accustomed to the driving position of the deep dished wheel... I didn't feel at home with the greater reach for the flat wheel anymore.
  5. yeah, clutch, gearbox, and to a lesser extent diff - manuals are harder on diffs than autos. the current falcon range has the base manual at 1200kg, turbo manual at 1600kg and autos at 2300kg with load levelling device pretty sure the larger diameter 18 or 19" wheels also reduced rear axle load limits and towing capacity.
  6. cool story about the R32, but I only mentioned that because it shows its was unlikely to be the one you wanted the tow car for... not that I see why what you're towing is a big deal in the first place! And I have NFI why you'd think you were saying X-Trails were good tow cars. I wasn't either, but I was saying they were rated to tow 25% more than the Commodore.
  7. power has nothing to do with towing capacity. I've seen a surprising number of X Trails towing some serious boats and vans around. But I bet the CVT model has a much lower tow rating, as CVT's generally are pretty dodgy on their own...
  8. I went off the best information available But since you're selling a track only R32 GTR that "has not yet seen a track " and... ...it seems to be a reasonable assumption in the absence of any better information. Certainly no worse than your assumption about X-Trails at any rate, eh? but anyway, even if its not an R33 GTR, it's a pretty safe bet that it fits somewhere in between that and the lightweight car and trailer example I also mentioned...
  9. ability of the chassis to safely haul the weight is FAR more important to a good tow car than power or torque. I've been in a V8 Commodore towing a car, and the chassis dynamics were fkn horrible! I'd take my underpowered 4.2 diesel Patrol anyday of the week for towing. But the Commo owner thought it towed great - heaps of grunt to pull it along. Nevermind that the thing was dragging its nuts on the ground with the rear end squatted right down, or that the steering was light and vague (even before you hit any serious bumps on the highway!) or that you could feel with every bump in the road the trailer would pull the rear of the car around... nah, it towed great - feel the grunt! And that was just towing an 850kg IPRA spec Datto and 540kg trailer - ie within its towing capacity! In contrast, I've towed my old full weight R32 GTR to Bathurst (from Brisbane) with a non turbo 4.2 deisel Patrol and apart from being a bit slower than normal, you wouldn't even know there was a trailer on the back. Seperate chassis 4WD's are far and away the best option for towing cars. lol X-Trail towing capacity is 2000kg. Most IP cars are turbo 4's or rotary and would easily be under 2000kg incl trailer, tools, spares and fuel. A fair bit different to towing an R33 GTR behind something with 1600kg tow capacity....
  10. that's seriously stripped out Mark. very nice time! what diff have you got? hard to really say in the vid but it sounds a little loose/open out of a couple of corners?
  11. didn't they say that part of the track had recently been resurfaced and the bump was now worse?
  12. You're right on both counts - its getting power down better with the FZ201 than it did with either the R888 or the Kumho slicks, And it's a pretty punchy setup - not hugely powerful, but good strong midrange got to say I'm a bit surprised the big Aristo can get the same lateral G from those tyres despite 300kg more weight to lug around. But I don't think I was driving the 180 particularly hard enough on that run though. Let's see what I can get out of it this weekend...
  13. because his wing broke when Hambone smacked him into Webber in the hairpin...
  14. not even close to the same situation. found these pics on another forum. How its done - Schumacher's pass on Hamilton. Fully alongside (or at least well and truly established his position inside Hamilton)before either car started to turn in: and how its not done - Hamilton's lunge at Massa. Coming from too far back, diving in way too late when both cars are already turning in, and no track there for you to drive into - the car in front is already aiming for the apex:
  15. well he said that at the start of the season too... I doubt he'll be able to help himself this time either.
  16. might have been funny 10yrs ago? how many penalties can you get for hacking it up before you should be excluded fromt he race? watching him hacking it up all weekend was all the more hillarious following his "talking himself up" as the only one who could match Vettel. lol And the laughs just keep on coming with his crying afterwards: "Out of six races, I've been to the stewards five times. It's a joke," Hamilton told the BBC. "It's an absolute frickin' joke." - yeah mate, there's joke there somewhere! "It's just ridiculous. These drivers are absolutely frickin' ridiculous. Just stupid."ummm, you're the one crashing into everybody, champ... Anyway, it was another cracking race that just proves how much we don't need DRS's fake passes. Bit of a shame about the red flag anti-climax though. Was shaping up nicely there. Not looking forward to Canada's double DRS bullshit though.
  17. pretty sure the fastest Aussie car at last year's WTAC was on Kumho V70A - Luff in the Lotus.
  18. Kumho list 305/30ZR18 & 335/30ZR18 V70A semi slicks. Kumhos normally come in soft medium or hard compound too. Hornibrook motorsport is the QLD distributor
  19. put me on that list - I'm keen to get as many runs at Lakeside as possible. I'd also echo Marlin's thoughts on grouping cars of similar lap time together. Its safer and more enjoyable for everyone that way. Harry
  20. http://www.jamesallenonf1.com/2011/05/tight-monaco-grand-prix-in-prospect-strategists-say/ "The super soft Pirelli tyre, which makes its debut this weekend, is expected to last around 8 laps in the opening stint" are they serious? 8 laps! might be worth a wager on the first of the driver's who start on primes.
  21. milk was a bad choice for Webber too:
  22. Remove Vettel entirely and it would be: Ham 96 Web 85 But 78 Alo 63 That might look like Mark dominating to some of his one-eyed fans And that doesn't factor in whoever would be driving the other Red Bull car if Vettel wasn't, or what Vettel's results would be in a different car... With Some of Mark's results, just about any other decent F1 driver in a Red Bull would have beaten him a few times this year. other than the wing last year, that was a dubvious performance adbvantage at best, there's no credible reports of less favourable treatment or parts for Webber.
  23. Amen. So far he's finished 5th, 4th, 3rd, 2nd, and 4th. My maths isn't great, but take one guy out of that mix and I still don't see him dominating...
  24. can't agree with the tainted legacy. The legacy is still there unchanged. Got to look at this as a bit of a postscript to his career. No one else has ever really tried a comeback, except Lauda who was only ~30 when he first retired and ~32 when he came back? Its not really the same thing. The game's changed since then too! Schumacher did OK this week. He wasn't anywhere near as terrible in the sphincter of the universe as people think either. The collision witht he Renault early was dodgey, but he was OK after that. The general feeling you got watching was that everyone was chopping him up, but the actual stats were he got passed 16 times and made 16 passes. Its just that there were so many passes going on as well as pit stops that we didn't get to see 1/4 of what was actually going on. I want to see refuelling come back too. I think the full fuel load makes it alot tougher for the teams that aren't quite on the pace and maybe struggling with balance at the best of times, they then have to handle nearly 30% of the car's weight in fuel load changing over the course of the race. I think the likes of Mercedes would be alot faster in a race if they could refuel and run lighter.
  25. depends on your definition of "bad". They do a perfectly adequate job as a track tyre. Come on pretty quickly, last 5 hot laps no worries, heat cycle well, are long lasting, and are pretty much as fast when worn right down as they are out of the box. Its just they lack outright pace compared to other semis. If you're planning on winning, I'd suggest getting something else. If you're just in it for the sake of competing anf having fun, they'll do the job. That's for the GG compound. If you're using a softer compound more suited to Superlap, disregard the above.
