  1. not if you buy the RSRs! lol you're the only one who's said that! WTF does "double the performance" of a tyre mean??? do you generate double the lateral G forces or something? or halve your lap times? maybe only "proper australian" japanese semi slicks have this? lol
  2. whatever. the Bridgestones were a special price from Hornibrook Motorsport only a couple of months ago. the Toyos probably are grey imported, I could care less! they come from the same place as the 'proper australian' ones, in the same GG compound and manufacture dates of less than a year old when i purchased them. maybe you should do some more homework, or sharpen up your own prices.
  3. last time I priced Federals they were almost exactly the same as what I got quoted for Toyo R888 and RE55S. Up around $330 per tyre in 235/45*17 You can get tyres that perform almost exactly the same as the RSR for almost exactly half the money. OR you can get tyres for exactly the same money as the RSR that will run rings around them. understand?
  4. I haven't used the 595RSR. Mainly because of the price difference between them and the KU36. 235/45*17 KU36 for $164 each! The Federal would want to be ALOT faster to justify its price tag! The Federals have always been in the price range of proper semi slicks so they are priced out of the game AFAIC. Either get the cheaper KU36 which is a compromise between street and track use, or buy a proper semi that will run rings around either of them - just don't buy the R888s, they're hopeless! I have them on my current track car. Not a patch on the old RA1 I had on my previous track car, which was the reason I tried them. Complete waste of money!
  5. entries aren't open yet!
  6. I say yes. we're talking about a road car, or at least very much a production based car, with little to no areo, semi slicks, so limited mechanical grip, going for a single fastest lap time. Not about endurance racing, or even keeping tyres together for a 30 lap stint. And we're not talking about cars with lots of mechanical grip and areo. I say smoothly loose is the fastest way. You need to be right out at the very edge of the envelope if you are going to get every last bit of time out of the car. Staying perfectly straight means you are staying inside of the car's limits. There's more to be had. Look at videos of production based touring car racing, like Group A or Group C. Or look at the front runners in IPRA (they run semis). Look at how the top handful of drivers in Superlap do it.
  7. what Dave said. I'll add that if you are willing to sacrafice a couple of seconds over the RE55 to use a cheaper tyre, then it would make no sense to get the 595RSR which may (or may not!) be a tenth or two faster than the much cheaper KU36.
  8. it depends on what type of car you have, what type of motorsport you want to do and where you are. there are 2 different organising bodies in QLD - AASA and CAMS. CAMS have pretty strict categories as per the CAMS Manual of Motorsport , AASA sprints are pretty much "run what ya brung" just class cars on the number of cylinders and whether its turbo or not. NSW have a completely different class system for CAMS events which always confuses me when I do an event down there. I have NFI what its like in Vic or other states.
  9. essentially the same semi-trailing arm setup as Datsun 1600s - they have been doing that since the 70s. Check out Datsport to see what they do with their crossmembers, or you can slot the standard mounts for a little adjustment. You'll find plenty of stuff out there if you google... 1600s used to do it to reduce -ve camber on a lowered car and get the toe back to reasonble levels. R30 geometry is alot better if not excessively lowered, but who knows where it will all sit when its in a Bluebird... but yes, you can make them adjustable
  10. Australian Supersprint Championships are at Morgan Park, Nov 13-14.
  11. yeah, I'd be up for a road trip mate. Going to be some absolutely awesome cars to check out while we're not on the track. And Eastern Creek is good fun.
  12. I saw the rules on their website a couple of weeks ago... Pretty much unchanged from last year from the brief glance I had.
  13. Nigel Mansell
  14. I don't rate a track by what gear I can get into or even what speed the corners are, just how interesting and challenging they are. I'm happier at Mt Cotton where you barely get out of second gear, but the corners are a real challenge!
  15. I've been to a number of race tracks and hillclimbs in QLD and NSW and it gets easier to say pffft to QR with each one.
  16. that's the pad's wear indicator...
  17. yeah, top work on making it happen! website looks great too.
  18. but then I won't be able to vote for this! lol
  19. not at QR. I just can't get excited about that place at all. I've been there 5 times in the last 5 years and that's more than enough paperslip action for me.
  20. fair enough. There's obviously a great many people who love the street sprints - they're very well attended and entries normally fill before the closing date, but they're just not my cup of tea. I'll admit I was picturing Leyburn writing that, which is probably unfair to the rest of them, but its momentary top speed is similar. And yes, Mt Cotton is also a slow tight track and slower than Gatton, but probably only because of the hills. If you flattened it out it would be alot closer to 36 sec. Artificial chicanes are a pet hate of mine however challenging they may be. So a hillclimb that is slow because of the nature of the track, rather than artifical chicanes comes out ahead according to my predjudices lol I won't be circuit racing the road car, but will probably go back to Carnell as well. Its a great fun track, despite being slow! lol I reserve the right to contradict my previous post! I guess its mainly the flat 90degree corners and chicanes I don't like...
  21. that is a good price! turbo clubman ftw! look what Santa's bringing me. It may be a slightly late delivery, but I'll let him slide just this once: these are unbelievably good value from the states at the moment. Will wait till I see how long they take to get here and what the service is like after handing over the money before I recommend this guy to anyone though.
  22. nice video. I was cringing at the wall coming up with tyres howling! That's commitment mate... and well done on the win!
  23. do you get all upset about the term 'mag' as well? I'm sure there's other terms around that evolved in common usage to describe something other than its original literal definition.
  24. it was a project car several years ago now, but I sold it on. Shouldn't have, it was a really clean rust free shell. Had flares, not the GTR style ones but would have been easy to change them over. It was a Leyland P76 4.4l Alloy V8, basically a bigger version of the old Rover V8. Supra 5spd. Should have kept it... I have some pics somewhere on the hard drive at home, but it wasn't much to look at really. I bought it at a time when I had about 3 projects on the go and never did anything with the car. Always regretted selling it though, and even tried to track it down to buy it back a couple of years ago...
