  1. good one Jason. What's in it? I have a soft spot for the old Dattos. Had my share of 1200 coupes, sedans and a ute, 120Y coupes and a wagon with everything from A12 on twin SUs, A12 turbo, L16-18-20 and CA18DET engines. And a 4.4l V8 240K coupe.
  2. bah, its just another GTR wannabe does look good with the 34 wheels. and I'm sure it will go good with the A050s too. I'm gonna have to fork out for a decent set of tyres next year to try and catch up
  3. the handling is getting better, and have the brake issue under control now too - it was a wheel bearing problem... 46.24 to the GTR 46.3something for the 1200 IIRC It will be the first time out for my 180SX and I'm going to be a bit rusty, so if I manage to get into the 47s I'll be happy with that...
  4. I'm looking forward to this. Haven't done a hillclimb since 2007... We'll see how the 180SX goes against my old Datto's times! I think the Datto would have the edge on it there.
  5. yep. looks like I'm swapping everythng except gearbox and passenger seat! Should keep me out of trouble for a while! btw, got a price on that screen yet?
  6. My money's on Roy! haha if he gets too close, just drop a wheel off at the apex mate I hear he's a bit gun-shy about that... I picked up a cheap registered 180SX last night, so i might do Clubsprint again. I really enjoyed Eastern Creek the one time I've been there.
  7. lol ought to see me driving the Patrol!
  8. I just posted my hillclimb series registration. And did a deal on a 180SX to transfer my gear into No more zip ties and tek screws! I guess the novelty factor of running a complet sh.tbox wore off...
  9. cool, I should have a home ground advantage (at least initially!) at Mt Cotton I'm not into street sprints, so I won't be doing them. Too mickey mouse for my liking. Low speed "tracks" 90 degree turns and chicanes don't do much for me. I'll just do the Hillclimb series and probably a couple of other things here and there. I think the Aus Supersprint Championship that's goign to be at Morgan Park sometime next year too.
  10. I know its early, but MG Car Club have released the registration for 2010 Tighe Cams Hillclimb Series, and entries already open for the Gatton Sprints in March!!! And the QLD Supersprint Series at Morgan Park is always oversubscribed, so if you want to get into that now is the time to call them about registering for the series. I love Lakeside, but with the state of the track at the moment with massive rocks used as fill right up to the edge of the track on the apex of a few fast corners, I think I'm going to give the place a miss until they sort it out. There's going to be plenty more broken windscreens and damaged intercoolers there if they don't do something about it. I've done plenty of days there over the past couple of years now anyway, so I'm happy to sit a few out. I think I'll do the Tighe Cams Hillclimb Series next year instead. Got lots of mates who run there and I haven't done an event at Mt Cotton since 2007, and they also have a round at Noosa now No longer have to suck up to the hysteric mob to run at Noosa!I think a 180SX should be pretty competitive in Marque Sports. Here's a link to the 2010 rules and classes as well as the series registration form: http://mgccq.org.au/2010%20TIGHE%20CAMS%20SERIES%20RULES.pdf Ben, the raly car class should be fine for your car. I know it says PRC, but its intended for all rally cars including tarmac rally cars. Its a new class too, so new records...
  11. does a 1640kg (with me in it) JZA80 TT Supra count? Had 275/35*18 rears. In Brisbane heat, they were best in the first 3 laps, but do 5 laps no worries. It was only the rears that started going away a bit after 3 or 4 real hard laps, the fronts remained very consistent. I'm not known for being smooth on the throttle though so I tend to give the rears a hard time.
  12. 8kg (450lb/in) is very stiff in an S13 for grip work. I started with 9/7kg (500/390lb) springs that were in the car when I got it - absolutely hopeless. Far to stiff for semis. Car was totally unable to cope with bumps. Dropped down to 7/5.8kg (390/325lb)and it was better, but still very hard. Car would almost skip over bumps on the high speed sweeper under the bridge at Lakeside. I'm now down to 5.8/4kg (325/225lb)which is getting pretty close to the money in my opinion. Its certainly not soft. I run far more camber than you and a bunch of toe out and have no inside edge wear. My vote goes on the old tyres misleading you as well.
  13. brake issues mate. basically had none when i arrived in braking area...
  14. and some photos of Sunday's spin... http://www.flickr.com/photos/leonardo_g/page11/
  15. there always was a ripple strip at the kink before the resurfacing. I don't know what they were thinking using rocks as fill at the edge of the track! Almost every lap you'd come across large rocks on the left hander after carousell (they eventually put witches hats up there to try and stop people droping a wheel there) under the bridge and sometimes in the kink. unrealistic to expect no one to ever drop a wheel at the apex of a corner on a race track! I certainly didn't do it intentionally, and I'm (reasonably) sure Ben didn't after getting past me
  16. well it worked... I think we shouldn't have complained about the drop offs at the edges of the track following the resurfacing. As ordinary as that was, it was prefferable to the situation we have now with numerous large rocks being thrown onto the circuit every lap in 2 or 3 places... And Tetly's worried about the puny little rocks from the pit surface getting on the track! here's some in-car from Aaron's 390rwbhp Escort. Jeff posted this link in a couple of other forums. Aaron's an ex-IPRA circuit racer...http://www.youtube.com/user/trackattackau#p/u/3/u_YFaB9CbT4
  17. wasn't really a cut. I dropped a wheel off the inside of the kink due to a safety pump of the brakes. Its there in that video just before you passed me. As I said on the weekend I'll pay for the screen, but its really not my fault they used boulders big enough to dent car's bonnets as fill at the very edge of the track! And before the 'upgrade' there was a ripple strip there... You're not exactly squeaky clean in the corner cutting either...
  18. yeah, the car felt alot better, but it was far too hot to expect any sort of decent time yesterday. At least the car never went over 90deg. Main changes were the whiteline adjustable radius arms (aka traction arms) in the rear and I spent about half a day with my home made bump steer rig setting them up. It was a massive eye-opener to see how bad it was at standard length! Also dropped springs rates down to 325lb F & 225lb R springs. That's about 6/4kg. previously 7/6kg. You've gotta get out there next year Russ, its one of the best tracks around!
  19. well, that was my second spin there on the day so I had it pretty much down pat by then. i was reminded of your Sandown vid as I departed the track the first time backwards at high speed waiting for a sudden stop... But I didn't get that session on video... I never really felt 'on it' last weekend. I was lifting in places I normally go flat without a second thought (like under the bridge) and I had to consciously make myself attack the corners. That's just not me. I think the 6 months of driving around in a AWD AYC car everyday, some of the gayness has rubbed off on me. Good thing its now sold!
  20. Here's some incar from the Sil80 at Lakeside last weekend, staring Marlin giving the KU36 a workout in the 32 and shooting a few flames after he passes me. I was struggling with brake problems, which isn't an excuse for Ben passing me, its... well you'll see...
  21. I try to test all aspects of a tyre's peformance... there's only 1 gravel trap at the bloody place and I got it 2 times out of 3 sessions! Not bad eh? I didn't get video of the 2nd session so I missed my first 'excursion', but I do have the 2nd, and in my opinion superior, spin behind you. Plus some nice flame-outs from your beast in front. Will try to get it uploaded it tonight... yes and yes. lateral grip would be almost identical. I bought them in January, have only really used them 3 times and the manufacture dates were mid 2008 iirc.
  22. all I can say after my experience with KU36 and Toyo R888s in the last couple of years is don't waste your money on the R888s! In my previous outing to Lakeside in the Sil80 with R888s I didn't think I had any more lateral grip or mid corner speed than my previous Supra on KU36 had. And yesterday running with Ben's 32 confirmed it for me. Maybe on a track with more low speed corners the R888 might have a traction advantage out of corners, but that's not really much of a factor at Lakeside. Not with our power level anyway.
  23. They copped all the abuse I could throw at them with my, lets say 'excuberant' style, and lard arse Supra on numerous track days at Lakeside, and also at QR, Oran Park GP and Eastern Creek. I had previously torn road tyres to shred on the Supra.
  24. hehe... I have I tried all sorts of pressures, but got my best times at about 36psi cold. They are a street tyre and don't have the construction of a semi slick hence the crazy pressures. That was on my Supra which weighed in at 1640kg with me and half a tank. Benchmark is 1:00:79 mate I'm looking forward to see how they go compared to the DZ03 to give me an indication of the Supra's potential on proper semis. So far I think the Supra would have been faster than my Sil80 on the same rubber, but hoping to change that this weekend!
  25. There's an even less credible rumour about Schuey & Mercedes...
