Ross Brawn's chassis was a "one-off"??? wow

I have NFI what's realistic to expect at those low flying type of speeds! Sport Sedan record is 51.12 by Briggs in his Chev Civic in 1996. That's a seriously great time. Faster than the V8 Supercars ever went. Their record was 51.44 by Seto. Skaife ran a high 52 in the GTR in qualifying in 1991. the revised track is certaily a little faster... but he has to learn the track and the car is still so new... I dunno, but it will be awesome to see. you have to let me know when its happening! Put me down to lend a hand as crew if needed.

have to agree. Bathurst has to be the most damanding track in the country with those fast blind corners over crests and stuff with concrete lining the edge of the track. In the vid he looks like he's been going there for years like the pros. very impressive! is the plan to race sport sedans when its sorted? Would be great to see this thing on telly mixing it up with Hossack & Ricciardello! Definitely has the potential in both car and driver.
-
as they should be. massive budget, many years of ongoing development, best drivers in the country... not taking anything away from these times. that's crazy fast! as it the top speed! how good would it be to see the 34 wooshing past the V8s down Conrod?

you mean 2:06.8 by Murph 5 years ago or whenever it was? a 7.9 might just get you into the top 10 these days...

What are the differences between the SA, M and K standards? The SA standard was designed for competitive auto racing while M standard was for motorcycling and other motorsports. The K standard was released to accommodate helmets used in karting. There are three major differences between them: The SA standard requires flammability test while the M and K standards do not. The SA and K standards allow for a narrower visual field than M standard (Some SA and K certified helmets may not be street legal). The SA and K standards include a rollbar multi impact test while M standard does not. The impact tests and excessive max G force discussed inthat article are the same in the SA standard. You can see the standards for yourself here: http://www.smf.org/stds.html

cheers mate. well if you get bored over the weekend, I'll be under the house working on it! Drinking buddies are always welcome! There'll be beers in the fridge mate. Have you got my number? Those KU36 are unbeatable for the price, and will be very intersting to see how your times compare to the 03s. Will give me an idea what my Supra would have be capable of. I'd say ~2 sec slower than D03s. But 1/3rd the price! Supra ran 1:00.79 in May on them, but the rears had probably seen better days by then. But only place it would have hurt would be out of Carousell. NA 20v? I'd suggest a piece of string from brake pedal to left nut to keep corner speeds up? lol I keep telling a mate Rob his 240Z should run 61s at Lakeside - he was over half a second faster than the Supra at QR Sprint track with a dirty old carbied L28. So no reason a 20v can't do it I suppose. -

I'm guessing this thing must be getting full slicks rather than semis? in that case I think its achieveable. On semis I think you'll need to get at least 160bhp at the wheels to have a realistic chance of 61s in that thing. What sort of power can you get from the supercharger? Or does that 5K budget stretch to a turbo conversion??? do these jiggers have a slippery in them? Are we running a book on its stock (?) lap times on the 22nd? I'll be back out there on the 22nd as well. Haven't had a steer for over 3 months! started work on my heap last night fixing the broken intercooler mounts... still have to swap springs around, fit & setup rear radius arms, fit the sump finally, and a few other things. Might even get its first australian wheel alignment! look out! -
when the planets are aligned correctly...

might have been different if they threw more money at a real good experienced driver? They've had the raw pace on a few occassions over the years.

You can get a set of 17*9" Enkei RPF1s for around $15-1600 from the US. That's bugger all more than driftteks. aren't 8" a bit narrow for a 34GTT? driftteks aren't light but if its a road car, who cares? the little bit of weight will make no meaningful difference whatsoever at road speeds on road tyres.

1 sprint event? let's not get too carried away just yet. hasn't the price of ROTAs gone up to the point they are the same as Works and the like?
-
here's the recommended fitments. http://www.kumhousa.com/Tire_SizeChart.asp...67-2bea0466bd5c FWIW I ran 245/40 on 18*8.5 fronts and 275/35 on 18*9.5 rears on my Supra. I was going for track performance as much as possible from them. They sat nice and square on the rims. If you want the stretch look, that's a different thing, but this will give you an idea of how they looked on the rims

lol yeah, the stands will be chock full of invisible people...

Late Jan - early Feb is generally when it all starts up again here in QLD, but i doubt we'll have a calendar until about December. Expect mid 30s at QR at that time of year. After hearing the local Sydney crowd complain about Eastern Creek being a boring horsepower track, I doubt QR will win any fans! lol The full National circuit is not really used for sprints either. Saturday Sprints only use the dead boring Sprint track. Wednesday Afternoon Sprints use Sprint and Clubman tracks, and there are far fewer cars. Clubman is a much better layout than Sprint. If you want to run on the National Circuit, Mountainrunner's TimeAttack days would be the only real chance other than untimed general practice. Morgan Park is hard to get into events. Warwick & Districts Sporting Car Club who own the track, run the QLD Supersprint Series there, but you have to be registered for the series to get in. There are SFA other track days there. Best bet with SAU NSW being CAMS afiliated might be to hire the track & timing equipment for your own day. I'm sure a few QLDers would join in to make up numbers. I would for one. You'd be mad to come up and not do Lakeside! There are noise restrictions though.

Bang For Buck Tyres.
hrd-hr30 replied to KezR33's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
I ran the KU36 on my Supra, 245/40 front and 275/35 R18 rear. The rear gaurds needed slight lipping to clear them on my 9.5" rims - can't remember the offset. I was prety happy with them even on the track - they were surprisingly good actually. You can't beat the KU36 for bang for buck as a combination street/track tyre. I also have them on my Legnum daily driver and they're wearing well on it. -
as I said, depending on scrutineer's interpretation. JZA80 Supras have 2 seperate catches standard, one on either side of the bonnet, but some CAMS scrutineers still wanted another form of bonnet restraint! better to have one and not need it than vice versa.
-
google "hillclimb nsw"??? pretty sure there is a site dedicated to the NSW hillclimb championship which will have all the clubs contact details you need. most will run club rounds as well. Get onto their mailing lists and your set. there are heaps of venues in NSW. 2 at Bathurst run by Bathurst Light Car Club, King Edward Park at Newcastle (MG), Bulladelah (sp? & no idea what club that is) are a few that instantly spring to mind.
-
L2S is for sprints, supersprints, hillclimbs, touring road events with speed tests, khanacross etc up to National Championship level. CAMS class them as speed events. You will need an extinguisher, blue triangle indicating battery position, and secondary bonnet restraint (depending on scrutineer's interpretation) as a minimum on a road registered car.

R34 Gtr On Warm Up Lap At Eastern Creek
hrd-hr30 replied to giant's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
yeah, just the occassional sprint for me these days. I've had a bit of a resurgance of interest since Lakeside re-opened. Probably done as many sprints in the past 18 months as the previous 5 years put together! Have done a bit of rallying in the past, both classic rallies and a few gravel/forest rallies. If it wasn't so expensive I'd love to have another crack at the forest. Nothing comes close to its adrenaline rush! -

hell yeah! there better be video - footage like you got with the speed and stuff overlayed would be awesome! I can't make it there, will be camping at Fraser... will be very interesting to see what times it does! -
if alonso outbraked himself and Weber was a nose in front, didn't Weber outbrake himself too? Alonso tried to stay on the track at least. Weber seemed to decide early on it was better for him to get back on the power and run really wide.
-
someone gets a nose in front on the outside under brakes and you say the corner is lost??? Its the guy on the inside that has the corner mate. The guy on the outside needs to concede, or try and hang tough on the outside and hope the other bloke doesn't muscle him out. But a guy like Alonso isn't going to give you room to pass him on the outside of a corner. Get real. If Alonso couldn't make it around the corner at that speed how was Weber ever going to do it on the outside at the same speed? It was never going to happen. Its a daft corner with that ripple strip in the middle of the road, but if that's going to be considered the edge of the track, you can't use ground outside the confines of the track to your advantage - ie to overtake someone. Ask Hamilton.
