far out! I guess now they'll know how you sandgropers feel every other year! good to see the IPRA scene in WA is more representative of cars most people want to run these days. I have a couple of mates running old RX3 and CA18DET Datto 1200 in IPRA over here. And have been stirring them up about IPRA being the "new historics" for a few years now. I guess we're just waiting for 2016 to formally reclassify EM into Group Nd Historic Touring Cars? lol

check the build date stamped on the sidewall before you use them. Not sure when Falken last made slicks... its the last 4 numbers of a code stamped into the sidewall. first 2 of them are the week number and the last 2 digits are the year. I wouldn't bother with them if they're more than 3 years old.

surely you could drop 2db with their dodgy "steel-wool-up-the-tailpipe" mod. there was a PP Group C RX7 running there last weekend... and Group A turbo Sierra and R32 GTR. If they don't need to break the noise limits, neither does a club level street/track car. slight exhaust mods are a small price to pay to get to use one of the best tracks in the country. I've had to put exhausts on 2 of my cars to run them there. It certainly beats the alternative of leaving the exhaust alone and only having the option of driving the unrivaled worst track in the country.

its just the "click-on-everything" technique mate! took me ages to find it too when they first changed the site.

slicks have wear indicators too. circular dimples in the 'tread' face

just buy one of those GReddy copy sumps, if you haven't already. cheap insurance. http://www.justjap.com/store/product.php?p...=317&page=1

its certainly fun to drive! Mine was used for street/drift in Japan before it came over here. Had 9/7kg springs when I first got it! But in that vid it had the 7s (390lb) in the front and 325lb rears. The rear end still hates any hint of a bump! I've now moved the 325lb/in springs to the front and waiting on the 225lb rears to arrive. Should calm it down alot. But I'm more than slightly sceptical about the rear Tein Drift-Spec shocks as well... also have some rear radius/traction arms to fit, and after those changes I might try some pineapples if it still needs more traction. It will get there eventually. It hasn't even had an alignment yet! -

I'm with Richard. Hands in the one spot on the wheel unless it goes really wrong. Admittedly this is easier with the faster steering ratio my old Supra had, but I still don't feel the need to change hand position even in my totally recalcitrant Sil80, whether its dealing with the understeer in the middle of carousel or the oversteer everywhere else... There are some exceptions, like the hairpin at Mt Cotton hillclimb, but on racetracks you should be right to keep your hands in the same position. -
good work Dave. Got to be pretty happy with the power too! I want! Is that S15 SR20DET standard internally? cams?

there was a guy running around with a road registered car painted up like this in SE QLD a couple of years ago claiming it was the Bathurst 12hr car. I never had a close look, but it seemd a bit ratty from a quick glance. Does he have the CAMS log book? without that there is no proof its the actual car. A weathered 1993 CAMS sticker and blanked off holes in the bootlid for a dry break system are all its got. If it was in the complete race trim, it might be worth that much to the right buyer, but it seems to be back in road trim apart from the paint and cage. edit: and why would you send a production race engine back to Japan??? and wouldn't they have run the car in N1 spec? this has none of the N1 body pieces. I had a quick google but didn't turn up any pics/video from 93

diagonal can go in either the main hoop or rear stays. I had mine in the rear stays with my old IPRA spec 1200 and just a horizontal harness bar in the main hoop.

no matter how much better FWDs are on gravel, I still wouldn't rally one. same goes for a NA Silvia or Skyline. Everything is better with turbos! The only thing I own with wheels that doesn't have at least one turbo is the camper trailer!

it was only boring until the McLaren mechanics stepped up to the plate to inject some excitement into it! lol how good was that? how bad was Badoer? can see why he was the most unsuccessful man in the history of F1. I think he came back just to extend his record number of starts without scoring a single WDC point.

cheap motorsport? if you want to be anywhere near the pace, you need at least 1 set of tyres per event! 6 if you expect to keep up for the second half of a rally in a rwd car. Nothing beats forest rallying for the adrenaline factor, but its not a cheap form of motorsport. If you just do shorter club rallysprints that's a bit different, but old tyres don't give anywhere near as much bite when throwing it in sideways. For me, I want to go as fast as I can when I'm competing in any event. That is much safer on new rubber than worn rubber. Doesn't matter how much tread is left on them, rally tyres only really work with new, fresh, sharp edges on the blocks. And if you are starting out, its best to do it in something real cheap (the R31 suggestion from RB Ryan is a good one). There's a a reason for the saying, "you're not a rally driver until you've had a rollover" Go and ask some of the best rally guys in your local area about how many cars they went through when they started out. There are plenty of others who are happy to just toddle around in the forest (if you've ever spectated you know its true!) who may not crash for a long time, but if you are having a go it will happen when you are learning the ropes. My thoughts on the hot GTR for the relatively recent 'all comers' class happening in QLD, is that wil be the end of it. They set that up to try to encourage some of the Kiwi classic cars to come over (they have more relaxed rules and would not be eligible to run here otherwise) and have since kept it going for the local classic guys. It allows them to run flares and re-live the glory days of Group G. But if someone starts throwing a 500bhp GTR around the forest, the CAMS Nannies will probably feel the need to step in and kill the fun...

Ben, even if you went slower with the alloy wing, I recommend you perservere with it until I catch up.. I mean until you get the attack angle setup properly...
-
hey Warps, I thought it was only the Silvia that was PRC eligible. The 180SX wasn't? Guess it might have changed in the 5 years I've been out. If the 180SX or Sileighty was allowed, I have one that deserves to be rallied! with Skylines, unless they've expanded the list of imports permitted, only Group A eligible cars would be eligible for PRC IIRC. So R32 GTR is it.

IMO you can easily get a far better ballpark starting point with adjustable arms than is possible with eccentric bushes. 1. set the camber to where you want it and measure the camber arm's length. 2. calculate the % of that length to the standard camber arm. 3. set the adjustable traction arm to the same % of the standard traction arm. Its a far better approximation than just altering both by the same amount with eccentric bushes. The camber & traction arms are different lengths and move through different arcs. But if you want to alter tham both by the same amount, I can't see the difficulty in that either - even if they are different thread pitches. if you want to set them up properly, its not that difficult to rig up a backyard "bump steer gauge" and mess around with it yourself.
-
fair enough too. if Torro Rosso couldn't get a test for a complete newbie, why should a 7 times WDC get a pre race test? He'll be alright. I'm sure he wouldn't be doing this if he didn't think he still had it. Hell be on the pace (of the car) by qualifying.

Nup, apparently still boring even at warp speed.

with those bumps under the bridge its no wonder the passengers were getting bucked off those sidecar contraptions! both of those stacks were just scary! Congrats to Ben on the 58.6. That is Seriously fast, and a staggering improvement to find 3 seconds first time out on new tyres. Great drive mate! To put it in perspective for people who aren't familiar with Lakeside, Cameron Dyal's off-its-nuts Evo ran 58.78 there last August with 380kw at the wheels. I'm betting Ben has half that! That's the beauty of Lakeside - despite being the fastest track in the country it's a real drivers track and really rewards handling over horsepower. The little M3s used to beat the GTRs and Sierras there back in the Group A days. Ben must be carrying some serious speed through those fast corners! There's going to be a few late nights in my shed over the next few weeks...

They are looking for long term gain. Massa's. you obviously missed the "At this stage..." part of that last paragraph. If for whatever reasons he can't or doesn't want to continue next year, they'll worry about it then I guess. Besides, rumour has it next year was going to be Alonso to replace Kimi. I guess if worse comes to worst, Kimi's contract gets extended. But whoever gets the drive, I'm sure they have contingencies in place, and you can be sure the option they took for the moment is the one that does suit them best.
