  1. you're saying the only way to enjoy QR is at 53-55 seconds? how would you know anyway???
  2. this was 2 years ago Noel. It was faster than him then. Hennig's best time now after 2 more years of development and going there "every chance they get" is 56.18. No point comparing my $13,000 Datto to $100,000+++ AWD running 55s Noel
  3. 58.3 in the Datsun 1200 with CA18DET. If anything's going to make QR's corners interesting, its a light short wheel base car with leaf spring rear end. I expect my 200rwkw Sil80 will be faster. I'll take it there to get a comparison time.
  4. lol, well the "hardcore flat out racers" can have it! FWIW The one time I took my Datsun 1200 to QR I was a few tenths faster than one of those "hardcore flat out racers" who was there on the day. I don't know about him, but I was still bored to death with the track despite that time still well and truly being in the 2WD Top 10 a couple of years later. QR simply isn't a challenging track. The fact I was able to go as fast as him in a car I had never driven at speed before, in just 8 laps before the turbo studs came loose, shows how simple the track is to learn. None of the other tracks I've driven have been that easy to get really good times at. QR is Boring.
  5. agree 110% with Noddy. The reasons Noel listed are exactly why we don't like it. Its not technical at all, not challenging and there is very little way for a driver to make up any time over more powerful cars. I go to race tracks for the corners. The more difficult, faster, and challenging the better! Anyway, it probably beats being stuck here at work... plenty of opportunities to drive Lakeside now Noddy. I'm taking the Sil80 out there again on the 2nd of August for the next Lakeside Open Sprint round which allows unreg and/or race cars. As does the Midweek Sprints - next Midweek Sprint is Aug 20. If you're interested let me know, I'll give you the details of a guy taking group booking with discounted entry fees Harry
  6. so, 3 people have only ever been to one race track in their life! lol
  7. the way I do it (it may not the best way but it works for me) is to aim for the same hot pressures as you normally end up with in the dry. On multi lap sprints that seems to generally be about 4psi higher than my normal cold starting pressure. So yes, if you normally start with 28psi cold, try 32 psi cold and see if you hit your normal hot pressure (probably around 36 I'm guessing?) after the first session, then adjust from there.
  8. slightly higher cold pressures in the wet - you won't generate as much heat in the tyre and won't get to your normal target hot inflation pressures. Try 2-4psi higher cold.
  9. these tyres are not really comparable. The Toyo R88 is a semi slick and is far softer compound than the road tyre KU36. I don't know what sort of Bridgestones you had, but the KU36 were worth 2.5sec per lap at QR and 2.2sec at Lakeside over Federal 595SS onmy Supra. good - for what they are. Do not buy them expecting semi slick levels of performance. They're an "Ultra High Performance" road tyre, really designed for people who do the occassional track day and can't justify the expense of semis and another set of rims.
  10. I've done a hillclimb at Mt Cotton in heavy rain on RE55S. There were sheets of water running down the hills towards you. The RE55S were great in the wet there, but it is low speed compared to Sandown. IMO semis are always faster in the wet than street tyres. I've certainly never been beaten by anyone running street rubber in the wet. And you don't see Improved Production guys swapping to road tyres in the rain - you can bet your arse if it was faster they would! Street tyres evacuate more water, but the hard compounds are not going to give you any grip on a cold wet surface.
  11. next one is July 19. Lakeside Street Sprints. I'm taking my daily driver Legnum out for a thrash http://www.qldraceways.com.au/events/entry_forms.html btw, there's a big race meet out there this weekend which should be worth a look.
  12. I prefr EC over OP as well, and the standard TT Supra I drove there wasn't exactly high powered. Oran GP has too many mickey mouse stop-go corners, the kerbs are insane through the esses after the bridge, and it seemed to have a very low grip surface. It has a few good good points as well though, from the bridge to the front straight I like, but the other half of the track sucks. I prefer the longer, higher speed corners of Eastern Creek.
  13. it wouldn't let me edit that post for some reason. made an error. Richo's Volvo avg speed should be 166km/h, not 169. Still faster than PI though
  14. good stuff. motorkhanas are a great way to have fun fanging around for an afternoon. cheap too. I always used to get lost or forget the course half way through though... WD FTW!
  15. forget to look at Super Tourers Lakeside Richards Volvo S40 52.23 (2.41km) 169km/h 1998 Phillip Is Brabham BMW 320i 1:37.17 (4.445km) 164 km/h 1997
  16. Nothing new at all mate. I used the easiest records for me to find - IPRA and Sport Sedans IPRA Lakeside Wakefield 808 Wagon 57.45 = 151km/h 1998 Phillip Is R.Ambrose RX7 1:46.03 = 150km/h 1999 Sport Sedans Lakeside Briggs Honda 51.12 = 169km/h 1996 Phillip Is* Bailley Supra 1:34.84 = 168km/h 1996 *Its now held by Hossack's SAAB in 2008 @ 1:31.86 and 174km/h, but up until 2001 when Lakeside closed and Ricciardello reset the PI record to 1:33.68 (170km/h), this was the valid comparison. I'm sure Hossack's machine would spank Briggs' old Honda's time at Lakeside too. Did a bit of digging around Natsoft on V8 Supercars. You're right, Seton set the lap record of 51.44 in 1997. That's 169km/h avg according to Natsoft, who must have rounded up - I get 168.6. PI V8 Supercar lap record was set 2 years later by Lowndes at 1:33.43 = 171km/h avg based on 4.445km track length on PI's website - slower than your data logging of Glen's car??? But V8 Supercars were no longer going to Lakeside by the time that record was set so maybe not the most valid comparison with the pace of development in that category. No Natsoft times available for V8 Supercars at PI before 1999 unfortunately. Apples with apples, Lakeside is the faster track. and that's before it was resufaced and widened onto the front straight and through the kink at the start of this year.
  17. holy plough-understeer todaman! is that car trying to kill you or is it the other way 'round??? unreal!
  18. I can't see the Japanese tyre manufacturers giving a fark about the UK's tyre laws. They still have ultra high performance road tyre offerings that will meet those criteria. There's also a big enough market in the rest of the world to not bother changing their production line. Aus might follow suit if USA did it, but I doubt the UK's changes will have any influence here. Toyo might bring the RA01 back (assuming they're still tooled up for it). At full depth it would be the best performing street legal tyre bar none in the wet. And it wasn't noisey. Should easily pass the tests. Buff it down for track use, and its a completely different tyre - everyone's happy.
  19. lol @ MW becoming multiple WDC! the Webber love really is strong in here! baby steps - how about letting him rack up a single win first? At 33yo he's running out of years to win multiple WDC's too. far too early to be likening Vettel to any of those others in the list too. 2 race wins does not a champion make.
  20. then have a look at the Kumho KU36. Very good prices from Option1 Garage.
  21. Lakeside. Have driven Oran Park GP, Eastern Creek, Wakefield, Morgan park and all 4 of QR's layouts (yawn). Don't rate any of them in the same league as Lakeside. Lakeside has greater elevation changes than Oran, plus a few camber changes mid corner or half way through the exits where you are trying to put power down. A tricky double apex corner, a blind high speed sweeper and the highest average speed of any track in the country. Awesome track.
  22. my gut tells me they only got the Enzo to test provided Schuey drove it. He broke the track record by some phenominal amount, but there are cars already opn the leaderboard that probably should have beaten it. So I reckon it was a one off appearance. The 430 Scuderia was faster around Ferarri's test track, for instance.
  23. When Seb gets it together, Mark can't quite run with him. Close but not quite. But Mark has shown the older and wiser head a few times this year and gets the results when Vettel isn't fully tuned in or has issues with his setup. Its an interesting battle going on in that team. But Vettel is only 21 and this is just his 2nd F1 season - plenty of time for him to get that top setup/pace happening consistently. If Mark had any of his previous team mates, he'd have had his first race win now... Good race too apart from the runaway leader. Heaps of little battles going on all the way through the field.
  24. ah... have fun with that one!
  25. I'm sure they only have this event so they get to go back to the Leyburn pub every year. Take your beanie Ben. I've experienced -5deg nights out there!
