  1. sometimes irony is lost in the written word and sometime it ain't! quote of the thread!
  2. no. read the late model section - there's a bunch of the normal rules that don't apply to late model cars, on of which is 3.4, and some extra freedoms as well. yes, you can replace the front bumper cover as long as it meets the dimension requirements of that rule - in particular that when veiwed from above, no part of the lower spoiler may extend beyond a perpendicular line down from the extremities of the bumper. This pretty much rules out canards too. you can fit a WING (air flow over 2 sides of the wing element) as per the dimensions in the Late Model section of the rules. Late model cars cannot run rear SPOILERS (air flow over 1 side of the spoiler which is attached to the bodywork all the way along the base like an old Torana. So you can use a GTR wing IF its fits within those dimension rules. I don't think it does. A GTR can keep its original wing, because it is the "particular model" that came with it. You can't fit it the a 4door if it doesn't meet the dimension criteria. Yes, but you would then be subject to minimum weight requirements. Keep the original block and head and you are exempt from minimum weight. if you're under 3000cc you can run maximum 8", over 3000cc maximum 9"
  3. How good was Vettel? great to see the underdog get up! ToroRosso and customer Ferrari engine killing the works team! hell yeah! Also nice to see Alonso first there to congratulate him after the race taking his record for youngest driver to win a F1 race. Shame about Bordais - he had the pace too. would have been nice to see both Toro Rosso cars up there. Alonso was the quiet achiver of the race. yep. FIA got it right. seemed to me LH was just running everyone off the road because he's still sulking from last weekend where he felt he was run off the road. But there's a BIG difference to holding your line around a corner and just driving into people on straights for the sake of it or to prevent bing passed or just because he's got a bee in his bonnet. He's a danger to everyone out there at the moment. shame he didn'y try that shit on DC, who's shown time and time again he's not adverse to leaving a wheel in there... As for HK, I (and I bet his team) think qualifying in P2 and finishing P2 is much more impressive than underperforming in qualy and continually risking loosing any points he might get in the race with unneccesary rubbish. Its a real shame he didn't take himself out in one of those manouvers. He deserved no less. Still very impressive that this over-hyped guy can manage to take the best car on the grid, qualify 15th, finish 7th, almost cause a few accidents and still have people talking about what a great drive it was??? I must be missing something.
  4. I had a HR30 GT ES when I signed up. Resprayed it and found a set of 16*7 & 8" Rays for it. Sold it last year to a guy in Newcastle who's dropped an RB20DET into it
  5. Saturday Afternoon sprints are a good place to start. Its for road cars only and they'll group you in with other new drivers for your first event so there's no pressure. Has plenty of run-off too. Should find all you need to know here: http://www.qldraceways.com.au/events/Satur...arvo_index.html Or Google Rennen Motorsport - they have some driver training days at QR I believe. That would be a great way to get started and learn heaps about track driving.
  6. tune? uh oh... sounds like I've been outdone!
  7. the KU36? no experience with them yet. Thay're brand new and not actually released yet. They're not a semi slick - they're an in-between tyre like the old Azenis or Federal 595RS-R. Their treadwear rating is 180. I'm hoping they'll be a bit faster than the old Federals for next weekend - got a certain GTST to beat They should be - slightly softer compound, with more rubber on the road (less void area) and less tread squirm, and a MUCH stronger casing/sidewall. we'll see soon enough!
  8. lol I never said they'd be good in the wet The Nankangs on my 120Y wagon have heaps of tread but are just deadly in the wet! I dropped my Supra off to get some Kumho KU36 fitted this morning at the distributor for Kumho Motorsport QLD. The 710 isn't road legal in Aus, just like those similar looking Hoosiers. As G_T_R said, that DOT thing is applicable in USA only - I didn't know that till now.
  9. 2dr Skylines (R32 anyway, I can't definitely say R33 and R34 can) also have the option of running in 2nd Category Sports Car classes. doesn't apply to this guy, but just thought I'd point it out for others. Stuart Inwood runs his R32 GTR at National Championship level in Sports Cars.
  10. No. If LH had stayed behind KR instead of cutting and running, he would have had the usual concertina effect to deal with coming out of that slow turn - where the time gap stays the same, but as speed increases the distance gap increases. The cut and run put him way closer to the ferrari up the straight than he would otherwise have been, and that advantage in proximity enabled, or certainly assisted, him to make the pass immediately afterwards at the end of the straight.
  11. yeah, that's re-addressing the pass! are you guys serious? LOL in which nano-second did Hamilton yeild to the Ferrari??? I think I missed it somehow. Kimmi had to fight for every last inch of getting his car back in front you see that done all the time in F1. take your blinkers off. And in a situation where the driver in front has nothing to loose and the one attempting the pass needs the points, he ain't going to make it easy! hmm, didn't Kimmi pass Homo again after that incident??? not bad for a sitting duck.
  12. wah wah wah... "cut him off" lol! Its called "taking your line". Its proper forecful racing - particularly when you're safe in the knowledge the guy behind you needs points and can't afford to crash out with his championship contender right behind him in the points. Lewis barely got a wheel in there - it wasn't his corner. and running people wide on exit is par for the course - you're inside its your line to take. catching and passing are two very different things mate
  13. they should either have "DOT" or "For Competition Use Only"/"Not For Highway Use" on the sidewall. if you mean getting "pulled up" by the cops, I would suspect they will find it very hard to believe they are legal! People have been defected for perfectly legal things before...
  14. I can forward the regs/entry if you drop me a pm with your email.
  15. anyone here going to the Oct 25-26 Supersprints? My entry's in. Haven't driven the Datto since last November, so I'm really looking forward to getting it out there.
  16. just got off the phone with the QR officials. my Datsun is not going to be allowed at this Lakeside event, it's strictly road cars only, so I'll be back in the Supra for another go! I'll have to wait till after the resurfacing and do a TopGear race meeting to get the Datsun onto Lakeside aparently. their reasoning is fair enough.
  17. doesn't really worry me if they don't let the 1200 run - i'll just have to get a clown suit and do one of their race meetings instead! And I wouldn't mind another go in the Supra anyway - I think I can go a bit quicker yet. go a bit harder under the bridge and can work on being very smooth onto the front straight - easy to loose time there on cheapo Federals! maybe there's a tenth or two in hungry and the first half of the carousel as well. and I've got a brand new LHR tyre after Oran Park too - it's just gotta be faster! lol
  18. It might be a moot point anyway - QR actually called me yesterday about my entry. They're extremely worried about having an unregistered car at this event. I'm sure I've seen other unregistered cars there with stripped out interiors and cages??? I think I convinced him its "registerable" like it says on the website (it is fully engineered in NSW) and that I was getting an exhaust shop to test it to the 2 static noise tests described on their website, so finger's crossed! But I'll definitely bring the Supra out too because I'm expecting them to take one look at it and tell me to go away...
  19. Thanks Ben. I'm getting an exhaust done in the coming weeks. It currently has an open sidepipe Not sure that would pass! Picking up a new intercooler and mounting it this weekend, then off to the muffler shop to try and quieten it down and do the pipework for the new intercooler location. But I'm a bit worried because there's not a huge amount of room underneath for mufflers... I found their static tests on their website so at least I can get the exhaust shop to test to those specs. The drive by test is the worry. Think I'll bring the Supra out as well just in case I get pinged! I assume they always stay on the inside of the track for their drive by testing?
  20. my entry is going in for next month very shortly Ben. The Datto is coming out for a play!
  21. best value brake fluid is the Penrite Sin 600deg for about $16 a bottle last time I bought some. Worked great in the heavy GTR at QR which is reknowned for being hard on brakes. Previously with new DOT4 fluid the pedal got long on the 2nd lap. With the Penrite I still had a great pedal after 7 laps - long after the pads had faded.
  22. Its not a Skyline or even a Nissan but here's my time at Lakeside for comparison. SAU Nickname: hrd-hr30 Car Make and Model: JZA80 Supra RZ Circuit Name: Lakeside Lap time: 1:03.58 Modifications Engine: pod and exhaust, converted to parellel turbo operation instead of sequantial. Power: ??? whatever twin turbo Supras have 200rwkw? Suspension: Tein SS Coil-over Tyres: Federal 595SS street tyres Brakes: stock early (small) brakes Body weight: approx 1580kg kerb weight
  23. can you send whoever's responsible up to QR next???
  24. its all about you isn't it Hamilton?
  25. just saw the results. official record for the AWD class is now 43.08 by Mark and 5th outright!!! There were 9 open wheelers there, so that's just an incredible result! Mark ran the 42.72 in the top six shootout at the end of the day - but that run doesn't count towards your finishing position or class records because not everyone gets the extra run. I guess you guys will have to go back and lower that record again! let us know in advance next time you guys go there!!!
