well unlimited development didn't help the others catch red bull all those years... or ferrari all the previous years, etc etc...

I see you prefer watching Safety Cars being refuelled to do enough laps to keep the 'racing' close than genuine racing. No point whinging about Mercedes' advantage either - they simply worked harder on the new engine for longer than the other manufactureres. They're reaping that investment now. 99% of the time, F1 is dominated by one team with the others trying to catch up anyway. If you don't like that, perhaps you should watch a parity formula instead. Although they still seem to get dominated by the teams with the best engineers and most resources anyway... There was plenty to hold my interest through that race, and to have me looking forward to the next one. Unfortunately the next 2 races are highlights only on FTA... maybe that will better suit the guys who complain about it being boring anyway!

Do Semi Slicks Need To Be Balanced?
hrd-hr30 replied to DJBarnstar's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
I use them in my 33" muddies on a Patrol - they have issues with front end shakes and muddies go out of balance from wear pretty quickly. They work great. But I've never had any issues with regular stick-on balaning for normal road tyres, semis or rally tyres. Waste of money in these applications IMO. -
Hankook compounds: C30 = hard C50 = medium C70 = soft C90 = super soft C70 is the norm for sprints and short races.
-
pre-race is just the stuff you've been readng about on the internet since the previous race anyway. post race stuff, ted's notebook etc we've all been watching free on the interwebs for years. Not worth $75 per extra race!!! (Min cost is $750 according to Foxtel site) Imagine paying that and then falling asleep on the couch before it starts! lol
-
So to watch the other 10 races, I have to pay $600? I don't think so...
-
It's the seppos you need to blame. But I think it's cool to see some actual innovation in concept, packaging, drive configuration and aero instead of the usual cookie cutter "prototype" cars. Its a radical concept and the most interesting thing to come along in prototypes for a generation and all people can say is "it's not pretty" and "fwd is gay" - when it's awd anyway.
-
Nobody said they were. In fact, the discussion started with someone saying he already had R-comps but wanted some S-comps for driving to events about 400km away and as a road tyre iirc.

Cams Secondary Bonnet Catchment
hrd-hr30 replied to stevena's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
It is only road registered cars that are exempt from the requirement. -
Supp Regs and entry form are now up on the Z Car Club site: http://www.zcarclubq.org.au/wp-content/uploads/2015/01/NDN2015-registration.pdf

nup, me either. Z Car QLD FB page and website have SFA. I have a couple of mates in the Z Car Club and even they haven't heard anything. Nissan Datsun Car Club QLD are now trying to get some info out there. They managed to get hold of those fliers and have been posting them on Datsun FB pages. They've organised an info night at Yatala Pies Sunday Feb 1 6pm with someone from the Z Car Club to come and tell everyone what's happening. That's an open invite on a bunch of Datsun FB pages. But its only any good for SEQ people. It's supposed to be a national event, and easter isn't all that far away...
-
Z Car Club don't seem to be doing much promotion of the nationals. This is all the info I've seen - doesn't seem to be widely circulated, so spread the word to people who might be interested... Single car sprints as well as multi-car side-by-side supersprints, and regularity for the oldies. Both Track E and K are rippers. K is the full track used in 2010 ASSC with the fast sweepers. Track E is the old full track and has a great esses section where it departs from K. No idea when entries actually open but SEQ people who go to an info night coming up are apparently able to sign on early to the track events. Maybe Z clubs in other states are doing the same thing?

lol really? couldn't be more wrong if you tried lol. unless of course, you're blaming Michelin and not Ferrari or the FIA for leaving the issue to the last minute You'll have to substantiate that the "circuit owner was happy to put up a chicane as they had a few setup during team deliberations". I certainly don't remember any talk of chicanes having been setup and then pulled down! I can back up what I said about the FIA refusing the change the track to suit one tyre company at the disadvantage of another though: Ferrari didn't block anything. Ferrari were not even at the meetings as far as I'm aware. Again, you'll have to show some evidence of that claim that Ferrari said no to Michelin teams to run without geting points. lol it really is extremely well documented that Michelin instructed their teams not to compete unless there was a chicane installed. I'd love to see the quote from the Michelin rep interviewed at the time saying they would use one of the options other than a chicane! The phrase "couldn't be more wrong if you tried" springs to mind again for some reason...
-
that's one, slightly skewed, interpretation of events. The FIA made it clear they would not alter the track to suit one tyre manufacturer at the expense of another. Fair enough imo. They also pointed out they did not have time to design and build a chicane they could ensure would be safe in the time available. Again, sounds fair and resonable. The Michelin teams had the choices of: - taking T13 at a speed their equipment could handle, - running through the pitlane each lap to ensure their drivers could not exceed the limitations of the Michelin tyres, - flying in a different spec tyre and having some sort of penalty. Bear in mind there was only 6 Bridgestone shod cars, so even if all of them finished in the top 6 positions, there were still points positions left on the table for the Michelin cars. The Michelin teams refused all of those options and instead issued an ultimatum to the FIA to install a chicane so they wouldn't lose out to Bridgestone, otherwise they would not run. Michelin's fault for bringing an unsuitable tyre and for the way they chose to handle the issue. I guess the last word is that Michelin elected to refund all ticket holders and hand out 20,000 tickets to next years GP to avoid litigation from the US fans.

or the Michelin guys could have slowed down for one corner...

fair enough if you can get them for a similar price as other crossover tyres, or if you're in an event/series that requires these sort of things. I guess with more events having street tyre classes these days it's kinda changing the equation a bit - if you want to be competitive, you buy the best tyres allowed regardless of cost. 18 track days is pretty impressive life! My old Supra got 12 track days and 15,000km on KU36s before the rears wore out, and I thought that was good...

ok let's do the exercise step by step. My Soarer needs new rear tyres: 265/35 R18 Yokohama AD08R $467ea Hankook RS3 $ ?? couldn't find a price, but even the Z221 semi is $479 - a whopping $12 more than AD08R! Kumho KU36 $225ea Nitton NT05 $220ea Achillies 123S $195ea Federal RSR $190ea Nankang NS2R $179ea one of these things is not like the others! It's good to hear they're miles ahead of the KU36. They'd bloody well want to be - they're more than double the price! You're paying full on semi-slick money for them. Why not just buy semis? Semis won't last a whole lot less using them on the road. Here's a couple that are way cheaper than AD08R R888 265/35 $380ea NT01 275/35 $280ea The only reason I can see to buy AD08R is if you are competing in Superlap Clubsprint class.
-
Personally, I reckon if you're after a tyre that's more for driving to the track than on it, you'd be better off running less camber too, so the car matches that ethos as well. You won't need 4degree camber on a crossover tyre, it will be better on the track and road with less camber. Hankook RS3 are cheaper and faster than AD08Rs. But if you're looking for a tyre more for the drive to the track than on it, KU36 or 123S will be the ones that last better on the road and cost way less than AD08R. You can even get R888 or NT01 semis cheaper than AD08R, and they won't last much less on the road than AD08R.
-
my take on these street-track crossover tyres is that anything that costs as much as cheaper semis is pointless - buy the semis! So for me that rules out AD08, RS3 and R1R. If you really have to have the fastest tyre over 120 UTQG reagardless, WTAC pre-control tyres pretty much proved its the RS3. And they should be cheaper than AD08 too. Otherwise that basically leaves the choices down to KU36, RSR and 123S if you're looking for something cheaper than semis that will do an OK job on the track and road.. RSR are the fastest of the rest but wear out so quickly that buying semis works out to be better value. KU36 - I've had these on a Supra and Legnum. They do respectable times and can cop an absolute flogging. They were quiet on the Supra but noisey on the Legnum. They were good in the wet imo, but many disagree with that. 180 treadwear. These lasted as long as normal road tyres on my Supra and did heaps of track days locally and interstate. I wouldn't hesitate to buy these again. 123S - all i really know is the Excel racers do pretty respectable times on them. 200 treadwear and very deep tread - might be a bit squirmy at first but they should last pretty well. Sidewalls seem nice and stiff too. I just put a set of these on my Datto yesterday. The main reasons I chose these over KU36 was that he had them in stock and gave me a pretty sharp price on them.

he's still bitter about Grosjean beaking his wing on Vergne's car in USA...

when are they sacking Kimi?
-
Why whole new engines? Just ditch the fuel restrictions and the OTT ERS, and let them up the boost with old fashioned open gates on the current V6 turbos - the old ones sounded alright...
-
Bianchi??? At least Kimi's not on that list

100g of weight saving so close to the hub center is not worth didly squat. My Rays Duralium nuts used to come loose constantly when torqued to spec. Think of the weight you'll save when a wheel comes off! Cheap nasty steel wheelnuts are the way to go.

I do - it's sink or swim. He sunk. Button would have scored a point in his first F1 race if his engine didn't blow up. But got it in his 2nd race anyway. And that was back when you had to earn your points instead of handing them out like lollies as they do now. Top 6 only scored points. He scored points finishes in 6 out of 9 finishes. I don't think it's that similar, discounting the first race of a whole new era anomoly...
