  1. mate, I've always wanted a GTR, and now I have owned one for just over a year and had alot of fun with it. I've gotta say it didn't dissapoint - they are an awesome car! Its not quite what I want anymore - I miss the old stripped out, full caged racecar. So I'll be building something along those lines again now - probably with my old HR30 Skyline coupe that no-one wanted to buy. Its about 300kg lighter than the GTR and should be relatively easy to get the same kind of bhp out of, so it should be alot of good old fashioned rwd fun! Hopefully be on the track by winter next year. so who's got some std BOVs?
  2. mine is something like 96 or 98% complete. some endurance races and the F1 race left to do. done all the manufacturer races, driving missions, rallies etc. only 1 licence test not gold - that's a silver in the Special Test with the 350Z JGTC car at Suzuka. edit: Its 94% and I got that last licence test gold last night only took 5 or 6 tries too.
  3. we'll never know what might have happened in 94 had Senna not had that terrible accident, but in the first race, Schumacher dominated Senna being consistently faster and winning in what was widely regarded as an inferior car, before Senna crashed out on his own. In qualifying MS got 2nd spot on the grid just three tenths behind the the legendary qualifying specialist, Senna. No one else was within a second of them. MS's team mate Verstappen was 1.9sec slower in qualifying and 9th on the grid. In the second race, Schumacher was the only car apart from the superior Williams of Senna and Hill to qualify in the 1:10s, getting P2 only two tenths behind Senna - the legendary qualifying specialist. His team mate Jos Verstappen qualified over 2 sec slower in 10th place. In the race, Senna crashed on the opening lap. Schumacher again dominated the race winning by over a minute and setting fastest lap of the race. At imola, the 3rd race of the season, Schuey already had a 20pt championship lead over Senna. Again he was just 3 tenths slower than Senna in qualifying. He lead Senna before the first safety car IIRC. Senna got the lead on the restart, but Schuey was pressuring him and continuing the way he had performed in the earlier races. MS went on to win 8 of the 16 races that season. Of the 8 he didn't win, one was a disqualification at Silverstone (where he finished 2nd behind Hill), and 2 were missed serving a ban for the same offence. 3 retirements 2 races that season where Micheal finished P2. Of his 10 finishes that season, he won 8! No point wondering what might have been, all you can say is MS showed in the first 3 races that he was as fast as Senna despite the inferior Benetton, even in qualifying, and was already dominating the championship before the tragic Imola round which claimed the lives of 2 F1 drivers.
  4. yep, spot on. I think its laughable to suggest every other driver in F1 for the past decade or more have been below par.
  5. selling my GTR and the buyer's GF thinks the BOVs are too loud. So I'm after a pair of standard BOVs and the hoses that connect to the plastic pipe that runs back under/behind the intercooler. I have the rest of the factory plumbing.
  6. just fired up the playstation again to have another lap and realised I'd stuffed up here - the ZZII is 1000kg and 870bhp. still should be way faster than it is IMO. NSX Prototype LM Road Car is 1230kg and has 1005bhp!!! I've done a 52.338 in it, but its very difficult to keep on the road. I reckon I get about 1 in 10 laps without an off somewhere! taily under brakes and just a hard car to drive - on this track anyway. GTR Concept (Tokyo Show) '01 is another fast car 1294kg and 815bhp (I think). 52.573 that's my top 3 cars at the moment.
  7. gold - "so wait... let me get this straight" like a real smartarse, and then proceed immediatley to totally missing the point... I love it!
  8. actually, the ONLY racetrack that doesn't use CAMS is QR, and even then as R33_racer pointed out, that's only for their own sprint series and topgear race metings, and mountainrunner's timeattack track days. EVERY OTHER racetrack, sprint series, hillclimb, autocross, motorkhana, khanacross that I know of uses CAMS.
  9. people forget Senna was a blatantly 'dirty' driver. Sentimentality or nostalgia seems to have made everyone forget he took Prost out in the 1990 Suzuka GP out of sheer spite after they had a coming together there the previous year which cost Senna the Championship. Senna made a lunge up the inside of Prost at the chicane with his inside wheels up on the ripple strip and ran into Prost, who was unable to continue. Senna went on to win the 89 race and thought he had won the Driver's title, but was later disqualified for the incident and the World Driver's Title went to Prost. Who said there's no justice in the world! So in 1990, again with the championship on the line, Senna stated publicly that he was going to take Prost out if he got in front of him - this time if they both crashed out Senna would be world champion. And he made good on that promise. That was enough for Senna to win the Driver's Championship. Afterwards, he was unapologetic and made no secret that it was always his intention to take Prost out. They started from 1&2 on the grid and Senna followed Prost into the first turn and simply ran into Prosts inside rear taking him out. yet all the bleeding-heart sentimentalists saying Schumi can't be one of the greats because of a few borderline incidents over the years all rate Senna up there despite this... just admit you don't like the man instead of trying to make out its about sportsmanship. PS - anyone who thinks F1 is boring didn't watch this season, or simply isn't a motorsport fan.
  10. you've obviously never heard any of MS' team-mates/members interveiwed. even many of his rivals have nothing but praise for him as a person. the good stories don't get near as much exposure. what about his donations to charity? one in particluar that was $10million!
  11. no I got your point. you don't like Schuey and you will define greatness in whatever way you want do the nice guys can get a look in, and MS doesn't. And you've got a list as long as your arm of people you feel were more deserving than him.
  12. talking about the greatest driver, those other "feel good" factors don't come into it for me. sure Stewart did great things for safety standards, but that doesn't make him a better driver. And Brabham was from an era where engineer/drivers were fairly commonplace. Sure he was a very good engineer too, but again that doesn't make him a better driver. And there is simply no room for that to happen in today's motorsport. Damon Hill one of the greats? Not in my book. He was very good - you don't win a drivers championship if you're not, but how on earth does he rank as one of the greats? You seriously wan tto measure Schuey up against Damon Hill?
  13. he stil is a great driver. last night's performance shows he is still the class of the feild. from 19th and last up to 4th and setting the fastest lap on the final lap is an amazing effort. how many people know that in his first F1 race in 1991, Schuey filled in for a Jordan driver who had being imprisoned for assault, and managed to qualify the brand new Jordan (the team formed that year) 7th on the grid on a track he had never raced on before? Benneton were so impressed he had a contract with them before the next race! some more of his early F1 history that many might not know or have forgotten... In 92, his first full F1 season he finished 3rd in the Drivers Chamionship! in 1994 when the FIA banned electronic drivers aids, Schumacher took an early lead in the championship over Senna and was 20 points clear of him on that fateful day at Imola. in 94 and 95 he won the drivers championships with Benneton. During these years he scored 80% of Benneton's constructors points. when he went to Ferrari in 96, the team was a laughing stock, particularly for their dishevelled and disorganised pitstops. Recent Ferari drivers had called the cars "cops" and said it "drove like a truck". They had won just 2 races in the previous 5 years! After Schumacher left, Benetton only won 1 single race in the next five years! and after 15 years in F1, he is still the class of the feild.
  14. there's a device called 'Action Replay' you can get for about $50 IIRC. Pretty much mandatory in online racing to verify your times.
  15. http://www.transport.qld.gov.au/youngdrivers questions would have been better directed to QLD Transport (they even have a specicif emial address for enquires on that subject) than some random traffic cop.
  16. I've got a practice session in the nets with the cricket team. not much of a friday night either! at least there'll be a couple of beers afterwards... good luck with the ZZII
  17. you're gonna love it - there is simply nothing like going flat out around sections of Bathurst! Look out for the little white Datsun 1200 coupe of Andrew Denniss there too. Stupidly fast car and he drives it hard!
  18. 874, 852 - my R34 only has 822bhp! and I bought it brand new, ran it for 100km and changed the oil. also had to change it again recently at 470-ish km because it dropped down to 780odd bhp. I'll have to give one of those M-Spec Nur's a try. I have improved my time, but in a different car - Tommykiara ZZII 52.223. still no challenge to you 2 running 51's. Its a bit dissapointing really - a car that weighs just 1000kg and has 970ish bhp should be way faster than the R34 GTR at nearly 1300kg and 822bhp... I've got 1000bhp in it now after doing 100km last night I gave it the first oil change, and will have another go sometime over the weekend and try some more fine tuning of the setup. You guys might be stupidly fast with that car! I'm not going to resort to traction aids to get into the 51's. I've always run with 0 traction aids and I'm not about to start now. Actually I lie, that Toyota 7 race car is undriveable without the TCS set to 1 - what a machine! are you guys using NOS? something else I've never used except on a few old yankee muscle cars in a strange GT4 drag racing phase I went through
  19. because its pointless. what's it going to achieve except unwanted police attention? of course, if you like stirring them up and going to court to defend it later, go right ahead. i can think of better things to do with my time and money than pissing into the wind like that.
  20. CAMS/FIA spec cage in my last car cost me $1500 with double diagonals, double intrusion bars, diagonal in the roof section, and braces in the door openings. main hoop is tagged to the B pillars, front legs are welded to the A pillars (you might be able to make out the reflection in the windscreen.
  21. I get about 14.4l/100 in my R32 GTR around town and fairly enthusiastic country/mountain drives. only engine mods are Mines ECU and 3.5 exhaust. Never done a long highway run, but would expect alot better figures just cruising on the highway.
  22. ever heard the expression, "let sleeping dogs lie"? seriously, why would you bother asking a traffic cop about the new laws for P platers? its like poking the sleeping dog with a stick...
  23. YEAR: 1983 MODEL: HR30 GT ES BODY TYPE: Coupe COLOUR: Red/Black
  24. that's why its better to go up the Obi Obi road the other direction - there's no dirt on the way up and its a nice hill climb. I guess I should have mentioned that... but I didn't know you were going to go the other way... and the Malaney-Kenillworth Rd you missed out on is a good one too - particularly when you get to the Kenillworth State Forest - some beautiful wide, smooth, cambered corners. anyway, Mt Mee is okay, particularly the climb up from Woodford side where you will be coming from. some of the roads along the top are a bit dull, but there's a few of nice, heavily cambered corners on the Dayboro side to look forward to. Can be a little rough in places too. Just be mindful that a number of people have crashed on Mt Mee so it is a bit of a hot-spot for the boys in blue. There's an alternative route up Mt Mee from the north via Campbell's Pocket Rd. Its recently resurfaced and is very tight and twisty. A bit narrow though and there's a few blind corners on crests.
