Yet Another "i Got Fined And Want To Get Out Of It" Thread
hrd-hr30 replied to AzzurrA's topic in Queensland
a) QLD Transport website has info about decoding the speed camera photo. The camera can be setup for traffic either coming or going away from the device. b) you should be able to google up something about Australian standards for radar operation, if there is not a link on the previously posted roadsense site? but I think you've got buckley's of getting it downgraded. the system will always look after itself, you can't win. life isn't fair. either way remember the new laws brought in recently - for a 2nd >20kph speeding offence in 12months its double demerit points, which basically means loss of licence... -
I'm not too familiar with the NSW classes - we don't use the type 1-4 and SV classifications up here. I just did what i was told when entering. If the supp regs specify it this year that's all good. I agree, modern import cars should be treated the same as any other road car. Although i don't mind being put in AWD turbo class like we have up here for hillclimbs - lets the 2wd guys get a trophy too Bathurst last year was my first event in the GTR, but I don't think that slowed me down any - except maybe the launches on Saturday because I was a bit hesitant to drop the clutch on the start line... They have last year's results up on BLCC website. SV is right down the bottom of the results - you'll see they stuffed up the capacity classes and had some WRX and turbo Skylines in the 2001-3000cc class too. Conrod Supersprint http://www.blcc.com.au/dmdocuments/supersp...%2003.12.05.pdf my best was 52.12. was awkward coming onto the pit straight in Murray's corner - I was staying in 3rd, but I might have been better off using 2nd. You should be easily able to hold it flat into the kink - I think I was hitting about 220, but its hard to check the speedo there so i could be wrong! Mountain Straight Hillclimb http://www.blcc.com.au/dmdocuments/hillcli...%2004.12.05.pdf my best was 52.00 which I was pretty happy with considering most people were going a fair bit slower on the Hillclimb than they did on Conrod. But another run or two would have been nice - I think I could still have dropped some more time off that. Its a fantastic piece of road and really gives you an insight into what those V8 Supercar drivers have to do up there! Harry

I tried that last night - I was way slower than my setup with diffs and suspension tuned/setup for the car. The traction control (or one of them) interferes too much with getting power down and it can't match my 52.625 ghost car out of corners no matter what I try. It doesn't seem to brake as well either - seems like the understeer control interferes with braking as you turn into a corner, which is a real problem for the final RH sweeper. I have to brake a fair bit earlier than my other setup just to stay on the road there. That 51.474 (and even the 52.0 and 52.1) times you set are very impresssive. do you do any online racing with one of the granturismo boards? I used to race online with granturismobynumbers - won a few too.

last year we got 5 runs on the Supersprint and 4 runs of the Hillclimb. get your entries in early as it is a popular event. have they changed the class system? Last year they told me AWD turbo vehicles were automatically in Type SV. similar to my car - coilovers (no camber correction), exhaust and Mines 'chipped' ECU are the only mods, with 225/50*16 RE55's on the standard rims. Be interesting to see your times.
-
good one idiot don't know if you can take full credit for it though. Even driving calmly along that road in my diesel Patrol I got alot of death stares from local residents (assumedly) who seemed to consider it as their own private walking trail rather than a public road! More than one refused to move out of the way - they just keep walking in the middle of the road... I reckon they would have been lobbying council to have it closed so they could enjoy walking their dogs in peace and quiet.

Official word from Shell is that their fuel will be stable if stored up to one year, as long as the storage conditions are "adequate" - ie the containers are full to minimise exposure to air, tightly capped, out of direct sunlight, and under 27°C. underground tanks at servos don't even fulfil those requirements. And vented petrol tanks in cars that get nice and hot sitting in the sun and cool down again at night certainly don't, so the fuel deteriorates much faster than these optimum storage conditions in Shell's literature.

oi - those pics aren't from last year! I know cause I was there and we ran Conrod Supersprint and Mountain Straight Hillclimb - there's pics there of the Esses Hillclimb. Plus I don't recognise those cars in the pics. Mountain Straight Hillclimb is better than the Esses Hillclimb too. I did the Esses Hillclimb in 03 in my old Datsun club car and apart from the dipper (in reverse direction) it was a bit ordinary. Mountain Straight Hillclimb on the other hand is awesome! for one thing you're running correct direction, and all those fast blind corners up through reid and sulman park - just awesome! Or maybe I just like it cause I managed to jag a 1st in class and 3rd outright on that after being totally outgunned on the Conrod Supersprint run the day before, finishing 11th outright. oh, and last year the CoC was talking about plans to run 3/4 track for 2007 if they can get approval. I have no idea if that is still on the cards, but that was the talk at the post event trophy presentation. He said the plan was to start where the Mountain Straight Hillclimb starts near the winery, and finish at the bridge just after the Chase, entering the pits. If that happens I'll be making the trip down again for sure!

no, its definitely just for the old boys. anyone not in the HRCC or Noosa Beach Historic Club doesn't get a look in these days. I entered in '03 in my old Datsun, picked up a trophy, got a mention in their club magazine for the car's presentation and the on-the-edge driving style, then next year they rejected my entry saying that they give preference to cars based on wether its historic or classic, a unique models for the event, presentation, and something else I can't remember. Mine was the only Datsun 1200 in '03, and none were there in '04 either, and i got a rap for the car's presentation in their own magazine. But they still allowed about 8 MX5's, which are neither historic or unique, and a bunch of identical MGs and whatever. An Evo 6 even got in. When they call it Noosa HISTORIC Hillclimb, they mean Noosa Historic Racing Car Club Members Hillclimb. I wouldn't bother going to watch either. 90% of the feild are slow boring old shitboxes, plus a bunch of MX5's - whatever they have to do with historics. the 10% that are worth watching you will probably miss anyway due to falling asleep while the old codgers in their slow POS putter up the hill.

I always have the traction controls off - all 0. I might give that a go just to see how it feels.

the GTR Cruise 2 went out through this area. I think we had some pretty good roads in that, if I do say so myself (I set the roads) I'll PM you the file with the route instructions if you like. If you start with the Peachester Rd from Beerwah you will join up with the route we used when you come to the T intersection at the end of that road.
-
that's too good for me! I can't see me going much faster. I did a 52.625 last night before going out, and run pretty consistently in the high 52s now unless I have an off, but I can't see myself getting anywhere near those times. then again, most laps I ever do before I've had enough is around 10-15. I don't have your powers of concentration - or patience? mind posting your suspension, gearing and LSD settings? I wouldn't mind having a run with your setup to see if I can go faster.
-
yeah that last corner is a killer when you're on a good lap - ahead of the ghost car and only 1 coner to go... My normal mistake when trying too hard is to leave the braking slightly too late and just run off the outside of the turn... umm, I've done a 52.693
-
if you haven't already bought a map, the dept of main roads has some pretty good downloadable maps that we use for the GTR cruises. there's a nice loop out from Malaney to Kenillworth and back into Mapleton via the Obi Obi road. That's a very nice peice of road - especially back up the range on the Obi Obi road. Dept of Main Roads Maps

that inspired me to get my 822bhp R34 GTR V SpecII back on the track to see if I could beat my earlier 53.007. I did three 52 second laps this afternoon - 52.894, 52.821 and a 52.693! I don't think I can go any faster - that was a pretty damn good lap!
-
ah, so now that you see the Carrera Cup cars are only just a touch faster than the old GT-R, you want to start comparing amatuer hour trackday results to 'prove' your point? my R32 GTR with only mods being crappy Jap colivers and an exhaust has done a 46.2 at Mt Cotton vs an experienced Porsche GT3 driver who's done a best of 46.9. it really doesn't prove anything. at any rate, you are comparing a sedan against $2-300,000 sports cars. its all meaningless. and we haven't even mentioned tyres each car was on, driving ability vs fear of puttng it in a wall etc... No-one is saying the GTR is the greatest thing ever. this thread was all about the Group A GT-R Bathurst history until gtr660hp started comparing them to everything else:
-
you're right. in 2006 there is nothing better than pushrod 2 valve engines. that's the pinacle of touring car racing in this decade! maybe there's a reason everything else is last decade's top 5??? see if you can work it out for yourself... another great comparison! I haven't said they are the greatest car ever. But they were definitely the best Group A touring car - which is what this thread is about - Group A and the Skyline's Bathurst history. You'll notice the Carrera Cup Porsche's are not touring cars. You'll also notice no-one makes them run 1500kg minimum weight. I doubt they'd be quite so impressive then, what do you reckon? anyway, they only qualified with a best of 2.11.1769. These wonderful sports cars built 13 years later are only about a second quicker than an old sedan POS. Yeah the GTRs are outdated, yesterday's heros. You're right they're slugs compared with today's cars. I stand corrected!
-
is your GTR basically a silhouette machine with a spaceframe chassis squeezed inside the monocouque body and everything purpose built for the racecar, or is it a production car with some tweaking? production block, gearbox, diffs, suspension design etc??? my point is that for all those advantages, 1 second per km faster than a 1992 GTR that was knobbled to within an inch of its life is nothing to brag about.
-
ah, the pinacle of racing in Australia! never heard it summarised quite so eloquently!
-
yeah, nice one! - shall we count the number of components V8 Supercars share with the road going versions? :lol
-
completely missed the point! if you want a comparison of GTR and V8 Falcadore on a level playing field, have a look at the Group A results where they couldn't handicap the GTR enough to stop it winning. If you think your supercab is ever going to be a fair comparison to a production based GTR you're as delusional as the people who thought the Monaro is better than Ferrari, Lamborghini etc based on the Nations Cup 24hr fiasco of a couple of years ago!
-
yeah I've used an R34 GTR (base model GTR) and got just over 800bhp. I've since been trying the full race LSD and setting the front up loose and rear tight, and it seems to improve the traction without hurting the handling, but my lap times don't really show it...
-
after 14 years of developing the same car without being limited by production suspension pickup points and design, with massive aero kits, 620ish bhp and 1350kg - mor epower and less weight than the GTR was restricted to, I don't think 1.1sec per km faster is all that impressive. Take the boost limit off, and drop all the ballast from the GTR and put it on latest tyre technology and see what it can do! even that isn't a fair comparison - imagine what times GTR's would be doing after 14years of development like the Supercabs have had! Picture an R34 GTR with a massive aero kit, full spaceframe chassis stuffed inside its body with the only real engine restriction being a rev limit... then it would be a fair comparison.

that's no secret. but it was a privateer entry with all the budget limitations that it brings and lower profile drivers. 1185 was the Sierra's initial Homologation weight, not the GT-R's. At least read it properly if you are going to correct it. 1260 was the GT-R's initial homologated minimum racing weight. I didn't say the race car was exactly 1260kg when it first raced, just pointing out the difference in the minimum racing weight they had to carry -ie before fuel load!!! 1500kg + approx 100kg in fuel!!! Anyway the GT-R was definitely in the 1200 range when it first hit the track, but was very soon increased to low 1300kgs. The point is 1500kg is a damn heavy race car - period. and is over 200kg heavier than it started out. actually the Sierra in 1992 had minimum weith reduced to just 1100kg! and got a 6spd box and bigger wheel/tyre allowed! LP and the other Commodores also had weight adjustments to allow them to run lighter. And were allowed freedoms to modify inner wheel arches to allow bigger wheels/tyres to be fitted! get your story right! they lost 0.1 bar=1.5psi. the pop-off valve that limited boost had to be calibrated in the presence of CAMS and was done pretty much at sea level. Gibson applied to CAMS for a correction to the boost for Bathurst due to the losses that other unlimited turbo cars did not suffer from, but the application was rejected. from memory they were claiming something like 550-560bhp in that 92 Bathurst spec. at 1.2 bar and given the turbo technology they were running I don't think that's unrealistic. then you can compare their straight line speed to the other cars on the track too - seems about right to me. its certainly no less credible than zoom articles written 13 years later. and alot more credible than some of the totally incorrect info you've got there.

just to set the record straight and clear up some of the misleading info in that post... in 1992 the Skaife/Richards Gibson Motorsport GT-R qualified on pole with a time of 2:13.820, and was the only car in the 13's during normal qualifying. It was in the Toohey's Top 10 shootout that the DJR Sierra who, like all other turbo cars except the Nissan, was free to run whatever boost they want, turned the wick up for the Top10 Shootout and got pole with a 2:12.893 which was the fastest ever Sierra laptime - their regulation qualifying time was 2:14.560. Skaife didn't match the car's previous qualifying pace in the shootout and dropped behind LP's Commodore, who also went a bit slower in the shootout than qualifying The GT-R also set the fastest lap during the race with a 2:16.470. Only 1 other car managed to break into the 16's during the race, being the DJR Sierra. The 2nd Gibson GT-R came 3rd driven by Olofsson/Crompton, and it was also the last car on the lead lap. the Longhurst M3 was the only car 1 lap behind in 4th, with Percy/Grice VP another lap behind in 5th, and a further 3 laps back to 6th place which was the troubled GIO GT-R. Not bad to have 3 GT-R's in the top 6 including the privateer entry, considering there was only 3 in the race to start with. I'd call that a fairly dominant week for the GT-R. Fastest in qualifying. Fastest in the Race. Won the race. 2 GT-R's on the podium and 3 out of the top 6 places. And this was after being further handicapped in the lead-up to the 1992 Bathurst, by an increase in minimum weight to 1500kg!!! To put it in perspective, their initial homologated weight was 1260kg, and the Sierra was 1185kg. The GT-R was by that stage restricted to just 1.3bar boost = 19.1psi, minus the 0.1bar they lost at Bathurst due to altitude which Gibson claimed to be worth nearly 40bhp. All the other turbo cars were free to run (and adjust) whatever boost they wanted. All this info was from Auto Action #561 October 10, 1992 that a friend gave me yesterday!

what about the 300C??? everytime I turned around to see what was going on he was leading... he definitely deserved to win!
