  1. irespective of areo drag and parabolic accelleration and all the other theory you can throw at it, the point is that without going substantially faster through turn 2, you can't realistically go 25kph faster by the end of the back straight. Unless you were bouncing off the rev limiter by half way down the straight the 1st time, or you added a JATO rocket for the second run??? 25kph is a massive difference considering you were coming out of turn 2 at ~100kph and one time added 100kph, the second time you added 125kph! You didn't say anything about coming out of turn 2 faster, so you can hardly blame the guy for being sceptical. It doesn't make much sence. The only things the track is realy hard on are oil temp, brakes, and tyres - they're consumables and fairly easy to address anyway - well except tyres. Drag racing is a major risk of breaking driveline components. I can't see how the circuit is hard on clutches unless that's just your driving style. slamming every gear change isn't going to make stuff all difference to a lap time anyway compared to getting the braking points right, the lines you take, and the corner and exit speeds you carry.
  2. the only thing the age of a car will give you trouble with are consumables, such as clutches and general wear and tear on suspension (bushes, shocks - who cares? you'd probably want to change them anyway, or might find a car with lot of good gear already in it), alternators, starters and power steering pumps and that kind of thing. big deal. major mechanical things are still going to be fine unless the car has been thrashed, and that can happen wether the car is 5yr old or 15. I've had mine for a year and driven it very hard in alot of events, and the only problems I've had have been TPS and rear cradle bushes. A grand total of $270. OK, that's not counting the rear discs i cracked at the track, which is hardly their fault anyway. yeah, they're troublesome old heaps alright! I'm sick of hearing everyone (who have never owned one) bagging the R32 GTR for being unreliable. It simply isn't true. Of course there will be the odd lemon out there, but again that happens with every car.
  3. I had a 1200 coupe before the GTR. I've owned a few over the years actually. This one ended up with a very strong Stewart Wilkins 1995cc L18, and weighed 851kg with 1/2 tank. I'll build another 1200 one day, with a turbo 1200cc engne (I've experimented with a couple of turbo A12/A14 engines already) for IPRA U2L...
  4. here you go. try them out and see how you go... both have Sport Soft tyres of course. I won't list every part I bought because its enough typing already, just assume its done unless I specifically say it isn't. I never use NOS, and have never used the weight balance settings either - both of those feel like cheating... 5. I only just got to see the QLD Dutton TV coverage yesterday. its a bit of a 'khana fest. I'd be wanting more speed events (and not 400m drags or 1000m time trials) considering the entry money! are the ones down south the same sort of thing- lots of khanas, and the occassional race track thrown in here and there? do they close any road sections? as someone with a background in forest rally, I think its a bit cheeky calling Dutton a "Rally"!
  6. apart from the N1 vents in the front bar, what else is different in the body kit? I think he's referring to the bonnet lip, side skirts with the pods in front of the rear wheels, and boot lip under the rear spoiler as per the Group A cars which I thought were NISMO parts, not standard fitment to N1's. I need the boot lip to complete the kit on my car. JustJap I think had them listed on their site for about $200 when I was looking a while ago.
  7. "such an old car"? 89-94 is too old to consider? 17-12yo isn't all that ancient! Alot of GTR's have relatively low km's. There are some very good ones around, and they are a performance bargain! I don't know where you are but GTR's aren't a "dime a dozen" around here. personally, if it was a daily driver, I'd probably take the 34GTT, mainly because I'd be less paranoid about it getting stolen, but as a toy car the GTR wins hands down.
  8. ...and a double post just to top it off! I have more caffiene now, so i should be OK...
  9. clear mtn? EDIT: doh - just realised you even said it was clear mountain between a couple of those pics. is monday over yet?
  10. 4th gear 1:1 final drive 4.111:1 but all you need to work out speedo error is the difference in rolling circumference (or revolution per km or whatever else) of the 18" tyres compared to a 225/50*16.
  11. from a different game on a different platform in a non-JDM car? yeah, no worries! sounds like a fair comparison!
  12. I only recall looking at my speedo once on the back straight on the Sportsman circuit in the afternoon. It was up around 220kph. 170-180 sounds about right for my car by the start-finish line, I was pulling 4th just before it.
  13. beatcha to it! I put a wing on my 738bhp '89 GTR - 53.829! then I decided to try other GTRs to see if any can get more power. GTR VSpec N1 '93 749bhp 54.003 with wing. haven't tried any others yet. Also got a Honda NSX '01 with 462bhp and wing to 54.673. Not bad for the power its got. Can't seem to turbo any of the NSX's
  14. The time sheets in the green folder there on the day also had speeds for each car, which I assumed was a trap speed at the timing equipment at the start/finish line? It would be an interesting comparison to see those speeds if you can post them up for us MountainRunner? I rarely look at the speedo on the track - more interested in oil and water temps...
  15. unfortunately the public liability cover councils currently have definitely do not cover motorsport activity! spectators at official race meetings are behind fences, safety barriers, and sandtraps, kept away from pitlane and in designated areas to minimse their exposure to risk factors. Public liabilty insurance is provided by the organisers. for a single entity to get insurance on a facility such as you propose will be prohibitively expensive (which is why CAMS provides it for all motorsport to leverage off a much larger event and competitor base), and will require the mitigation of risk factors by at least imposing some sort of minimum safety standards for vehicles and entrants. that means scrutineering for safety compliance, marshalling the use of the facility, etc. Al of a sudden its starting to sound very much like the kind of motorsport that already happens all over the place in SEQ - motokhanas/khanacrosses. There's a motorkhana on this weekend for $20. Its already there and easily accessible now - but the people who hang out in maccas carparks and street racing locations aren't interested. its all too hard to get a cams licence and a fire extinguisher.
  16. I'm out too. No brakes left after QR on Tuesday, and too much to spend on the car to get it ready for the QLD Super Sprint Series next year. The $1000+ this trip would cost is much better spent on the car. Besides it will probably still be in pieces by then anyway. If the HR30 had sold it would be a different story...
  17. I wish I had the power to do that on 255/40*17 semis! very jealous!
  18. unfortunately there's two words that will prevent public motorsport venues such as this from ever happening - public liability. an out of control skateboard of football isn't going to kill anyone, so they can do as they please.
  19. I only did one session of the Sprint and Sportsman tracks, so a total of 10 hot laps. They certainly wore a bit, but not too bad. I was less impressed with the tyres on Tuesday than other track days - they just felt alot squishier in corner entry and mid corner than before. Might have had something to do with chasing the STi on the Sportsman track and running out of brakes mid-way through the sessions. They are a good road tyre, but expecting them to really cope with track days is asking a bit much, like any road tyre. And its very frustrating chasing a STi with semi slicks while you're on normal roadies... really a waste of time going to the track on roadies if you have a competitive streak! EDIT: I had a closer look at the LH front last night. it wore worse than I first thought, almost taking chunks out of the outer tread blocks. The LH front cops a hiding at QR...
  20. I wouldn't be too worried about your first time on the clubman track mate, your times on the other circuits were excellent! and with the "experimental" spring setup you had on the day which was far from optimal. Once you've got the suspension sorted and you're on matched tyres front and rear, you'll be even faster! My focus is getting the car right for next year and the QLD SuperSprint Series at Morgan Park. Wheels, tyres, brakes, camber, and a few other bits and pieces... But I'll be there if I can get another set of wheels and semis in time for the next Time Attack. No more racing on Federal 595SS tyres for me!
  21. you buy it from Amuse Tuning Shop, full model. its an awesome car straight out of the box - its all setup. don't mess with the suspension! I'm going to try tuning the NISMO Fairlady Z Z-Tune up to see what it can do. And I want to try some other NSX's to see if you can turbo any of them - can't do it to the one I've got. still meaning to try the RX7 again too.
  22. Paul does a very good job with these track days - it was very well organised, and his timing system which also gives a trap speed is probably the best system I've seen at any event I've done. I'll definitely be back. Some very nice machinery there too! still drooling over the 34 V-spec! QR really is hard on brakes. Mine were going off by the 3rd or 4th lap, so it looks like I'll be upgrading pads and fluid, and fitting some brake ducts - things i should have done before anyway really. Also must get my act together about getting some more semi slicks. Doing track days on the Federals is kinda fun (sliding around) and kinda frustrating (slow entry and mid corner speeds) at the same time. Thanks J-Boy for the chance to get out there and have some fun.
  23. Amuse S2000 GT1 '04 510bhp 54.634 my new best time. don't touch the settings this car comes with - its absolutey fantastic! Amuse S2000 R1 '04 399bhp 55.392 I fully modded the engine and its also a great car Amuse Carbon R (R34) '04 603bhp 57.699 this car is absolute rubbish! total dissapointment after the S2000's from Amuse. I improved the times of a few cars I posted earlier: 300zx Z32 a seater 565bhp 56.656 (was 57.618) WRX STi '02 431bhp 58.034 (was 58.319) and tweaked the NSX Type S Zero to 400bhp 56.921 (was 336bhp 58.770) and a new one: Supra RZ '97 510bhp 56.598 wing
  24. nice time in the RX7 Butler! and with no wing - good work! I never use NOS - just feels like cheating... I might have to get back in the RX-7 and do some more tuning. I tried both of those on the weekend too. The S2000 GT1 was very fast - amazing traction for 500bhp in such a light car! So then I went and bought the Carbon R expecting it to be unbelievable - what a dissapointment! I bought the LSD for it and spent a while messing with that and the suspension, but it really didn't help. It needs a more open track to show its potential. I used a few other cars too - it was raining yesterday, so I had a bit of time to kill... I'll post my times tonight.
