  1. I've only just found this thread. looks very good NewKleer. I definitely want one. subscribed to thread...
  2. final offer - be quick before i get sick of all this and put it on commission in a yard! good cheap reliable cruiser. just don't expect a stock 83 turbo car with a factory 4psi boost and 145bhp to be like an R32, 180SX or whatever! no more tyre kickers please!
  3. sort of... Total Driver managed to get permission to include sprints in one of their training days. It was awesome to get back out on that track! Pine RIvers Shire Council is due to make their decision on the tender process for the management of Lakeside any day now, and their target is to have the place open by September, so stay tuned! I can't believe its happening!
  4. Sorry Jason, I have a regular navigator from the days when I used to do their whole series, and he also joined me in my forest rallying folly...
  5. CAMS L2S licence costs $88 + membership of a CAMS afilliated car club. The club will have the licence application form for you fill out. The club will issue a temporary licence until the proper one is mailled out to you by CAMS. Some of the cheaper clubs around are NDSCC - Northern Districts Sporting Car Club, HSCC - Holden Sporting Car Club, MGCCQ - MG Car Club of QLD. list of CAMS Clubs here
  6. I got them mates rates off a friend in the trade for 235/45*17 $115 245/45*17 $165 (not a common size) I'd guess retail would be somewhere around $150 for the 235/45.
  7. I said that ^ in jest, which is the reason for the cringe thingy. I actually own a car trailer and 4WD I used to tow my old Datto 1200 race car around on. I swear I used to end up towing other people's broken cars back from a weekend's racing at Warwick more often than my own! I towed the GTR to Bathurst last year too, but based on the amount of fuel you use and pice of petrol, I think I'll take the risk of driving the GTR this time. If worst comes to worst and I can't fix the thing myself to get back on the road, I'll get it towed to SWR and try and hitch a lift back with someone. but I have no reason to expect any (serious) problems from my experience with the car so far. and yes, I am touching wood... maybe I should just tow it... When I decided to drive it down, I thought most people would be cruising down together in convoy, but that doesn't seem to be the plan anymore
  8. Supp Regs Entry Form you'll need a CAMS L2S licence, and a navigator with a CAMS L2S also. Usual safety and clothing requirements, except that rally regs require a 2kg fire extinguisher. I think they accept 2*1kg units also. There will be 8 special tests which range from a sprint on QR, motokhana test, closed road sections at Toowoomba, Wivenhoe and Gatton, a test at Willowbank drag strip and the Ipswich autocross track - your car will get dirty! it is a rally after all! There are navigation sections between the special tests. The BSCC info night is a must for people who haven't done this kind of thing before! They will explain how to read a map and the types of navigation used. Its basically a little taste of tarmac rallying (along the lines of a Dutton Rally) at an affordable price. I enter for the special tests and couldn't care less how much we stuff up the navigation! No speeding or stupid behaviour on public roads will be condoned. Your car will have door cards identifing you as a BSCC and CAMS competitor, and you are representing these bodies and the sport whilst on public roads. Police are notified of the route, and the organisers have radar equipment and do conduct speed chacks at various places on the route. People have been excluded from events in the past, and there is one person who is currently banned from all competitions for a year for repeat speeding offences on previous events. NCR's also have provisions for competitors who do not abide by this rule to be charged, and may face loss of CAMS licence and fines. So if you cannot abide by this simple rule, don't bother entering.
  9. but what could possibly go wrong?
  10. I'm driving mine down. Bloody trailer-sailors! But it looks like I'll be running on my road tyres rather than the semis, unless my tax return is bigger than expected! Still won't be happy if a gtst beats me though!
  11. I bought some Federal 595SS for my GTR last week. I wasn't expecting much at all from them, but I've been very surprised by their performance! 234/45*17 front and 245/45*17 rear (rears are 9" and the 235s weren't recommended for them) I also have a set of RE55S semi slicks that I use for track days, and i have been competing in Hillclimbs and supersprints for years, so I know a thing or two about tyres and handling, and I drive the car quite hard at times. The Federals are fantastic! I took them for a drive over a nice winding mountain road I use quite often and couldn't believe the grip they had compared to the previous Dunlop and Falken combo on the car. Its now very hard to provoke oversteer exiting a corner , and the lateral grip was very impressive too. I even left them on for the Lakeside track day last Monday, and they were pretty damn good there too! Which is saying something, because normally even good performance road tyres are just rubbish on a racetrack. But they were very good for stability, braking performance, and cornering power, with very little squeal. And they didn't even get chewed up like alot of tyres do on the track! If you can't tell already, I'm very impressed! No need to spend more than the Federals if you want a good performance road tyre.
  12. bah - I can't say I've had that problem on my R32 GTR brking from about 220-230kph in the kink on Conrod with the semi slicks, or from about 210kph for the Karousell at Lakeside on Federal road tyres... there is a bit of trail-braking there if you provoke it, but that is a useful thing... but if I was having problems with the HICAS system, I wouldn't bother trying to fix it. Just get the lock bar and remove the HICAS if its causing problems.
  13. the factory 16" wheels will be OK. And tyres are alot cheaper than 17" race rubber. I ran the standard wheels on my 32 GTR with 225/50 Bridgestone RE55S rubber at Mt Cotton Hillclimb, Bathurst Speed weekend etc, and got a 3rd outright (1st in class) at Bathurst's Mountain Straight Hillclimb, so they can't be too bad. Saloon cars use a 225/50*16 Bridgestone RE55S as their control tyre, so cheap secondhand tyres are available around the place, and if you join their association/club, you are eligible for big discounts on new Bridgestones - like $75 per tyre off retail!
  14. yep, its the best of their TRE's. Mainly focused on speed tests, and pretty easy Nav sections.
  15. good to see it all worked out in the end. Nice to see you leave with a smile after the dissapointment earlier. can you let me know if your mate in the RX7 got any pics of my car? cheers mate, Harry oh btw, you live just around the corner from my mate Glynn with the blue 240Z that was out there yesterday. I went back to his place for a beer after and saw you behind me.
  16. my sentiments exactly - that track is something special! it was awesome to get back out there, and was alot of fun in the GTR. A bit faster than my old Datto was, and a bit less nimble too... but still remarkably good for a heavy road car on Federal tyres! The Federals were very very good actually. They certainly stood up to the punishment alot better than the brakes! Nice to meet you and Jason too. Have fun down at Rally Burnie! You guys should come and do the QLD Challenge Touring Road Event in August if you can. I think its the 26th. They have a few closed road sections around the place, so its a good bit of fun. Nothing like the tarmac rallies you guys do, but for $120 its a pretty good way to spend a Saturday.
  17. I used Beacon Red 34224, it was the closest match for unfaded sections of the original paint. And generic Jet Black.
  18. quite sophisticated in the tuning of the system and handling with the adjustable gain, and I really like the ability to toggle between maps on the fly. Looks like you've put alot of thought into the design. excellent work Paul! If you ever want another test driver/vehicle let me know! but it looks close to production stage...
  19. I was going in the morning session, but I may hang around after for a while, so I'll see you there.
  20. I can't believe this will be anything other than a driver training day, but at $100 its a gamble I'm willing to take! Thanks for posting this AzzurrA!
  21. I dunno about blue??? All the pics of RS turbos I've seen look solid black (ie not metallic) to me under the bump-strip trim. I used Beacon Red and Jet Black on my HR. Let's face it, its not an original RS turbo, it really doesn't matter if you don't have the exact colour. If you are doing a full colour change, it matters even less. I could get the paint code I used if you want - there are about 4 or 5 different Datsun Beacon Reds. and FWIW, I don't think the paint codes on these old Jap Imports mean much according to the Aus specs Nissans paint codes in the books. According to the paint code off my HR30, its white. And trust me, I've painted enough cars to know this one was never anything but red.
  22. is that Rejon? anyway, I'd be interested to see/hear more about this controller too.
  23. good to hear you found the problem. I did mention to check the charge wire on the back of the alt. Its not uncommon for them to come loose, alot less common for them to burn out!
  24. definitely interested. I've run at Baturst Speed Weekend a couple of times, and I was thinking about doing King Edward Park Hillclimb instead this year, but this looks like a better plan to me! Wakefield and the Creek are tracks I've always wanted to run on, and what better way than with a bunch of other Skylines! count me in! R32 GTR
  25. damn. why is that all the way over in Adelaide? I want it!
