Hi.
About 12 months ago i purchased a 2001 Toyota townace that was fitted with the mongoose m60 immobiliser unit.
The unit was working okay for around 6 months with the only exception being the passenger side door wouldn't lock/unlock via the remote. This had no effect on the start up of the car.
I lost the original key to the car and as this was a second vehicle of mine i didnt get a locksmith to cut a new key straight away and the car sat in the driveway for around 3 months before I eventually had a locksmith come and cut a key.
The battery went flat in this period of time but after he cut the key all it needed wad a jumpstart and the car was working again.. until I reached first destination and switched car off when I began having issues with the car starting (engine would crank but felt as though fuel pump wasn't allowing car to properly start)
After a jumpstart again, car started and I drove home without any issue.
Following day I couldn't start car at all and for next week I drained battery trying to get the engine to keep running after startup. Called locksmith who insisted over phone that my battery needed replacing.
Put battery charger on overnight and cat started & drove a couple times the next day before car wouldn't restart 20km away from home.
Drained battery again trying to turn car over before Replacing battery, terminals etc. And now the engine won't even crank yet electrics work fine.
Eventually towed it home with straps and even roll start attempts would prove that immobiliser must be the issue and I'm guessing that replacing battery may have caused engine to not even crank after doing so.
The car was sold to me with the mongoose info / manual but no pin code to be found. Contacted previous owner before the last owner and found nothing.
My question is am I better off removing the mongoose immobiliser/alarm system altogether? And if so how?
