  1. Troy, unfortunately I don't agree with you here. I followed the black R34GTR around EC, he had slicks and I noticed his grip levels were just as good as mine in the fast corners, and he had stock suspension!! Aaron and I didn't have new RE55S either, so doesn't matter whether the slicks they had were a year old or even 10 years old, full slick tyres have the performance edge over any semi comp tyre... So if your saying there's no difference then why don't race cars run semi comps?? I can guarantee that if I had some used slicks on my car I would have gone atleast 1.5-2 seconds quicker.. How about John or Paul use some used semis and see if they can go as quick as they are now??? Congrats to John on the time, that Zed is very well sorted. Maybe if Frank was there it might have been a different story, and if Ben was there... well u know what would hapen.....
  2. Really?? Has it been modified beyond Nismo Z-Tune specs?? Or is Nismo underrating the power?? Here's the specs according to Nismo: http://www.nismo.co.jp/Z-tune/data_e/6.html They also claim it weighs 1600kg, I thought it would have been 1500kg with all the carbon fibre. Then again all the diff/trans coolers would add weight... So blacksx, how much power has it got?? I'm curious...
  3. Awesome!!! That is the first word that comes to mind when thinking about the last 3 days. The drive up and back was made much more pleasant with Aaron in the passenger seat. EC was everything I expected, fast, technical, a real driver's track... You stuff up one corner and your gonna stuff up the next. The blind corners caught me off guard at first, but managed to get my head around them. Even though I had a great time, I was a little disappointed with the grip levels of the car, it was understeering like it was a WRX. Main reason being that my tyres were shagged.... Big thanks to John (UAS) for the lap timers and Paul (Black R34GTR) for tips on how to takle some of the corners. The zed really does go FAST!!! Also big thanks to James, Snowy and the crew for organising the trip and accomodation. TOP EFFORT!!! Pity Aaron and I couldn't make it to Wakefield, then the NSW team would have copped a . ...
  4. So...... what's for dinner??!!
  5. Have fun people!!! Drive safely!!! See you on Thursday night....
  6. And don't forget guys, this car does a 10.04 sec 1/4 mile according to the owner. It was published in this month's Autosalon magazine, full write up on the car.... Was at Dutton Rally at Sandown and overheard the owner claiming it had done a 10.04 sec 1/4 mile in Japan.... Is it just me or does anybody else find that hard to believe??? 500ps + 1500kg = 10.04??? Oh, and why didn't they say what mph it reached?? Still, I'd buy one.....
  7. Basically I did 1 flying lap for the day, spark plug tip decided to break off and have a party with the piston... All fixed now...
  8. Troy, you know you want a GTR....
  9. Not as fast as you....
  10. Troy, I could give a rundown but I'm reasonable new to this considering this is my first year of doing track days... I feel I haven't been doing this long enough to give you concrete evidence on what has made my car go faster... whereas for example someone like JP can tell you what improvements each mod can make as his car has been developed for years, and has been racing since you were still sucking on a dummy... But what I can definetly say is that my major improvement has been in learning the car's boundaries without over stepping them, its a case of 'oh, i should have gone a little deeper' or 'oh, i'm not taking the right line', learning how fast you can take a corner before it understeers or how to exit without too much oversteer etc... Considering this year has been my first year of doing these track days, I'm still on the learning curve... But I can definetly tell you changing from TEIN HA's to TEIN RA's, the car went a second faster at Sandown without changing driving style... Then when I changed my driving style and was confident in pushing the car harder around the track and taking the right racing lines the car went almost 3 seconds faster again.... For example: First Track Day at Sandown (APRIL'06): 1:22.7 (335rwkws, Brembo F50's, TEIN HA's, RE55S) Second Track Day at Sandown (JUNE'06): 1:21.5 (335rwkws, Brembo F50's, TEIN RA's, RE55S) Third Track Day at Sandown (OCTOBER'06): 1:18.7 (350rwkws, Alcon's, TEIN RA's, RE55S) First 2 track days the improvement was the suspension, whereas the third track day I had an extra 15rwkws, Alcons front & rear, diff/transfer case and most importantly BIG BALLS!!! Even though the additional mods would have helped, I have learnt so much between April and October and I'd say that was the major factor in the faster time... Hope that helps....
  11. Geez didn't know going fast gives you celebrity status around here!!!! Problem is I have big shoes to fill now, the pressure is on to go fast at every other track... uumm would you believe me if I said it was a fluke that I 'did a teen at Sandown'??? FINER6 - even though the stig looks like his doing it with ease, the helmet doesn't show the true emotion of going that fast...
  12. Thanks for the compliments guys, I've been walking around with a smile on my face all day.... Tyres were 3 meetings old (now 4), so I guess with fresh rubber times might have been slightly better, but in saying that the car had heaps of grip, always did.... Following JFK around really opened my eyes in where I could go faster, so I thought if his car could do it so could mine... I can confidently say that there is more in it, as turn 1 is a bit tricky, still haven't worked out my braking point and being off camber can throw you to the other side of the track very easily... The back section after the straight is very intimidating, but if you have the right line you will surprised how fast you can take it, even when the car is walking across the track.... Jack the Stig - does that mean I have to wear a really cool helmet and listen to 'Whitesnake' when Im racing????
  13. Yeah well I guess you can say I'm STOKED!!! After last weeks misfortune I decided to not give up and have a good crack at it... Did a 1:19.7 in the first session, was wrapped with that time and would have gone home a happy man. But as the day went on, and I got my head around some of the tricky corners, the car went faster each session... Following JFK around the track was priceless, he is an absolute maniac behind the wheel.... He really knows how to control a car... So to finish with a 1:18.70 has actually left me (and a few others) stunned.. Its was my third (full) track day at Sandown..... Lastly, a big thanks must go to Benno, for getting the car all sorted during the week and giving me the chance to race today.....
  14. For the power figure your aiming for, there is no need to go single, considering the stuffing around with water/oil lines, air intake, blow-off valve return piping etc.... If you want over 400rwkw, then yes go single, but also look at more displacement for response... Its a proven combination for track, 2.6 + twin low mounts = good power and response... Twins will keep the boys in blue off your back aswell...
  15. Well done Matt, 1:05.44 is very impressive!!!! Well done to Archie aswell, 1:04.96 is awesome considering its been a year and a half since he's seen the track.. Aaron also had a PB, that car is FAST!!! Good to see Justine and Ryan also punch out some good times on street tyres.... Kon (TraciTrax) made his track debut, well done mate, hope you enjoyed it... Times are up: http://www.racetime.com.au/?event=c0608
  16. Dane - I'm pretty sure Duncan is referring to using a strap instead of a tow hook, basically bolts up to where ever you were going to bolt up the tow hook, like a loop where you can pass through the chain or strap to pull your car. So basically all you will see is a strap with a loop hanging off you front bar..... A few Porsche race cars I tow around have these instead of a solid hooks...
  17. James, you never cease to amaze me.... I laughed for a good minute, very LOUDLY!!
  18. No he didn't, Benny worked at BMT, HI-END RACING and now HI TORQUE PERFORMANCE. He has never worked with Ben at Racepace.... There is definetly 2 different Bens, and if you have seen them both you won't mistake one for the other..
  19. So what is actually going on with the EC day?? Are there any of the NSW guys going, or they're not allowed coz of the licence needed?? So how many are confirmed from NSW?? Is this is an open day??? Bit confused...
  20. I should be there!!! Have some unfinished business with Sandown...
  21. Hey Snowy, have you received the disclaimer from trhe people on that list or is it just interest shown??? It's a shame Ben and Sam can't make it, oh well, the Sydney guys will have to deal with some of the 'slower' cars from Vic...
  22. Where do you come up with that sh1t??? That would be hilarious, except being tied up in the boot and the pepper spray... OK, looks like I'm definetly in for EC, with a bit of luck I might be at Wakefield aswell...
  23. V-SPEC has A-LSD diff with cooling fins, different suspension (stiffer) from standard... Series 3 has xenon headlights, dual airbags, red stitching on seats and door trims, different steering wheel, red fog light on right tail light instead of reverse light, bigger (deeper) front lip, N1 slots in front bar compared to a 1995 model.. There is also another colour available in the series 3, smoked silver.. Oh and of course its a newer car ....
