So in other words if I put some '****tail' fuel and advance the timing, should I expect a considerable difference in power (in excess of 350rwkws) without raising boost???
-
Just looking at JMS's old R33 GTR drag car, and they're claiming the car made 381 rwkws on 1.3 bar, using T517Z 8cm low mount turbos.... Heres the link to the page which also provides a dyno graph.... http://www.japanesemotorsport.com.au/whiter33gtr.html How do they get so much power out of these turbos on 1.3 bar and stock motor??? Does this seem right???
-
Hey Dean, I didn't know about the two sizes until after I bought them!!!! Oh well, you live and learn I guess.... Was there a considerable difference between the 8cm and 10 cm???? As far as response and power???
-
NRB- your more than welcome.... Will keep you posted with when this is going to happen.....
-
meshmesh- yeah we'll have to twist Nigel's arm to get this going I think!!! It would be more accurate if they are done on the same dyno and same day.... Merli- be more than hapy to see your beast on the dyno!!!! sub- fantastic!!! what sort of time frame you looking at having your car ready???? Anybody out there with the Apexi AX's on a GTR (in Melb)???
-
meshmesh- yeah did a similar comparison with the two graphs, but since they were done in different modes, thought it would be inaccurate and inconclusive.... ula32 & NRB- yeah sure!!! I would like to see how ula32's N1's compare to both the 2530's and T517Z's.... NRB, what turbos you running???? This will a very interesting comparison!!! All we need is somebody with the Apexi AX's and we've got the set!!!!
-
meshmesh- Your spot on, there's definetly more in it, even Nigel said for me to get used to the power, and then bring it around if I want more in the future.... But it all boils down to how long you want your motor to last!!!!!! I'm sure with c16, heaps of timing and 2 bar of boost, my car should be capable of 400rwkws aswell, but not willing to sacrifice the engine at this stage.....
-
ph1- great figures there, got cam gears but maybe the guys adjusted them more for top end power??? I dunno.... I think the power these turbos are pushing is expected, how much more power do you think they should be pushing out???? 325rwkws @20 psi compared to your 317rwkws @ 18psi, seems about right doesn't it, taking into consideration you got bigger cams?? Maybe with bigger cams I shall I expect about 340rwkws @ 20psi or even 360rwkws @ 22psi??? I guess we'll never know until I get the cams and retune, with emphasis on adjusting cam gears for low/mid range (when turbos begin to spool) Anybody have any comments/feedback??? Also just to emphasise I'm not only interested in power, but also concerned about response and lag.. As for bigger camshafts, they're definetly on the list...
-
ph1- do you mind telling us when full boost hits on your setup??? Merli- surely you should be able to run more than that, even just to get the numbers on the 1/4 mile??? sydneykit- I've got one going on next week, 16 row Trust item with oil relocation... INASNT- should be happening in the next couple of weeks, will keep you informed....
-
cool, just from what I've heard that 2540s are very laggy, but make great power... Since you've got custom items, they may have taken response and lag into consideration and customised exhaust housings...
-
summoner- are they actual HKS 2540's??? or Garrett equivalents.... Sounds like they got quite a bit of power.....
-
Thanks guys for your comments... summoner- looks like you are running bigger turbos (2540s) than me, therefore its probably safe you keep them at 1 bar as they are known for making great power, but very poor response and lag..... I know a lot of guys running 320rwkws on standard engines and haven't had any problems. My AFR's are right on 12 all the way through the rev range, so I don't see why I should be screwing up my engine any time soon.... And remember, it's not all about power!!!! It's how its delivered... My car is no dyno queen.. NRB- Amen jezrrr- yes I have read the thread, but rebuilding the turbos over time doesn't really concern me. Do you know what it costs to rebuild the turbos??? You'll be surprised.... Got an oil cooler going on next week, so that should help??? meshmesh- great points raised there, just to remind people I'm not implying that these turbos are better than any other turbo out there, its more to enlighten people on what T517s are capable of, and compare them to 2530s in relation to lag, response and power.. Aphex- cheers, good points raised there too... RedR32- yeah comparison should be good.. Snowman- power is what I was after, around 320rwkws (not in shootout mode).. Don't know others were expecting... don't forget I'm running 1.3 bar, there's plenty left in it.... Merli- your car is going to be an absolute f@#$ing weapon, you'll be running much higher boost than me, so it would be interesting to see what the GT-SS's will be capable of.... I can definetly say that they won't be as laggy than mine!!!!! Can't wait to see the results... rev210- spot on!!!
-
tribex- yes your right, they are meant to be less laggier than 2530s, but in the 8cm2 version, mine are the 10cm2 version so maybe that's why they are laggier?? Dunno... Yes I have Trust cam gears.... Doughboy- standard cams, standard headgasket... meshmesh- yeah full boost is around 5000rpm, getting used to the lag now!!!! As far as the Trust pulley kit, not sure if it made a difference.... rev210- yeah saw that thread, these turbos are apparently capable of 2 bar, don't know about reliability.... my car gets driven on weekends only, so doesn't clock up the k's.... summoner- I'm not sure what the car makes at 1bar, pretty useless running at 1 bar might aswell stay with stock turbos... These turbos are equivalent to HKS 2530s rated at 600hp for both of them... Yes running stock internals.... Didn't want to use anything but Power FC, personal preference.... Will do a readout in shootout mode in a couple of weeks when we do the comparison between my car and Simon's (meshmesh)... STAY TUNED!!!! By the way what turbos you running??? Don't think itas tailing off that much, feels very strong.... will have to check it out next time...
-
Pred: yeah it better!!!! Last time I was out with the old setup got 12.000.... Oh so close to an 11!!! Al: yeah definetly, its been 6 weeks since I last drove my car!!!!
-
THE RESULTS ARE IN!!!!!! After driving my car around with 260rwkws (stock ecu/turbos) for three months, the hunger for more power was unbareable, so I went on the costly journey a lot of GTR owners decide to take.... My car has finally undergone the turbo upgrade, and after much deliberation decided to go for the Trust T517Z turbo kit. These turbos were chosen as everyone opts for the HKS 2530s, so I decided to be different and more importantly wanted to see the difference between the two, mainly POWER, RESPONSE, LAG... These are the performance modifications undergone with the upgrade: - Power FC - Nismo AFM x2 - Trust Fuel Rail - Trust 720cc Injectors - SARD Fuel Pressure Regulator - Trust T517Z 8cm2 turbos x2 - Bosch 044 Fuel Pump - HKS EVC4 Boost Controller - Custom Catch Can - Daiken Exedy Twin Plate Clutch (converted to push type) On the dyno the car pumped out 324 rwkws at 20psi (1.3bar). I was very happy with the result, but noticed that car was much laggier which was expected.... However when full boost hits (around 4800rpm), u can't help but smile!!!!! In the next couple of weeks, there will be a comparison between my car and Simon's car (meshmesh) who has the exact modifications except HKS 2530 turbo kit.... The comparison will be done on the same dyno, same day.... Anyway heres the dyno sheet: (NOTE: This was NOT done in 'SHOOTOUT MODE') http://www.meggala.com/T517Za.gif P.S Big thanx to Gerald and Nigel at Ice Performance!!!!! And BIG THANX to Steve aka meggala!!!!!
-
Hi Gav, I have a nismo twin plate out of my R33 GTR, converted to push type... I'll check the plates tomorow, and measure with verniers... Cheers
-
I paid ALOT!!! They were brand new and paid $2.5k.... Second hand ones still hold their value, so expect to pay close to $2k... If your getting s/h ones make sure you see them cause the glass tends to fade, not to mention cracked/scratched from driving.... Shim off the tabs with a file, after all they're plastic and don't allow the plug to connect into the headlight plug... very easy, you'll work it out once your about to install them... I did do this myself, just alow for a lot of time and patience!!!!!! Cheers
-
Ferni, installed xenons on my series 1 GTR, they are a straight fit, but the wiring connector needs to be modified. Basically you have to shim the tabs off the connector for it to plug in, then PRESTO!!!! Allow for a couple hours work, you have to almost take the bar off to get to bolts under the headlight, and to take the bar off, you have to take the lip off....
-
What AFM are you after Andrew??
-
Yeah, wanna see pics!!!!!
-
ABOUT FARKIN TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mine will be on there within the next week....

DYNO RESULT: GTR Before & After HKS GT2530
JAGR33 replied to meshmesh's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeah well I'm still awaiting parts from Japan, so won't get done for atleast 2 weeks now... Yeah the guys were saying that you had quite a smile on ur face once you'd taken it for a burl.... Will be more than happy to do a comparison, as we both have standard engine/cams/manifolds/dumps/ecu/boost controller/catchcan etc..... So Snowy's on a mission hey??? Got sick of seeing all these GTR's at Ice getting turbo upgrades??? 700rwkws???
