Exhaust silencers/varex exhausts
PotatoCake replied to PotatoCake's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Got the car back from having the dump valve wired in and a few other things, as expected its pretty dam loud lol Did a quick video of Jesse revving it a bit in the workshop, but i need one from doing a cold start inside, then its mental. Obviously very loud when driving with it open, lots of pops and bangs tho Instagram -
Mystery solved, thanks bro Bit of a strange mix, but i dont mind it, still looks good.

Trying to figure out which nismo cluster i have. All the ones i see on the internet, the speedo goes up to 320kph and the revs 11k, with the nismo logo being on the rev gauge only. But on my one, the speedo goes up to 300 and says nismo, while the revs only go upto 10k and no nismo logo Dunno how to embed pics into a post so ill attach pic of my cluster and generic google search for reference Is what i have genuine?

Exhaust silencers/varex exhausts

Im getting the switch and some other stuff wired up next week, so ill post a video then. But ive seen them on r32's and VL's. Depending on where on the exhaust they are placed, after how many resonators etc it pretty much sounds like a straight piped race car. Very loud haha -

So i finally got the exhaust done. Full custom 3.5" stainless with dual tipped sp mufflers & a side exit aes dump valve. Not as quiet on the outside as i thought it would be, but heaps quiter inside when driving and no more drone. Some pics on Instagram -
Thanks bro

One of the first things i do when i buy a car is to change the in cabin filter, because no one ever does. There seems to be conflicting statements on the internet, does anyone know if a 97 r33 actually has one?

Exhaust silencers/varex exhausts

I only recently purchased the vehicle, it came with the flex setup but the current tune is e85 only, which is why im wanting to get the tune redone to enable a mixture. First i need to get the exhaust redone tho. I was thinking of getting a varex muffler but it sems they dont fit well in the 33 (hang low because of the valve mechanism which sticks out on top) and generally dont sound good. So that leaves me with redoing the entire exhaust (more resonators and mufflers) so its not a menace when i come and go from home, and then have the aes dump valve somewhere along the line to really open it up. I was thinking of having it before the cat but after seeing how insanely loud it will be (on a vl turbo) im thinking of putting it more towards the rear of the car, after one of the resonators. -
Brand new and unused, accidently bought the wrong kit for my setup, so i ended up getting a custom intake made instead by Js Performance instead. Did end up using the pod filters. So its the entire setup minus the pod filters. Everything else is still brand new factory sealed. Purchased from RHD Japan with full receipts for $585 + around $250 in shipping & import taxes. $350 Pickup from Kilsyth 3137 or can post for $30 Brand: APEXi Product: Super Suction Kit 80mm MAF - BCNR33 BNR34 Part Number: 538-N061 SPECIFICATIONS: Pipe Material: Cast Aluminum PRODUCT NOTES: - Z32 Airflow meter coupler included

Exhaust silencers/varex exhausts

I’m also conscious that e85 is slowly being phased out. Not all United’s have them anymore. Can’t take the risk of being low on petrol and assuming the servo will have it. -

Ah, should have been clearer. Currently has a flex sensor installed all good to go. like u mentioned, I’ve only ever known the car on e85, I might hate 98, but I have to try it out first. Everyone says the -5 turbos get pretty laggy on 98 octane tho… -

Currently on an e85 only tune, but I barely get 200km from a full tank. Makes going for longer drives difficult, especially when u leave Melbourne metro as there aren’t many united servos, hence why I’m thinking of going more of a 98 setup. And yes the smell lol. Any drive afterwards I need to have a shower and wash all the clothes I was wearing, it’s like someone made a Calvin clown e85 perfume and sprayed it all over me haha -

Had a good chat with Ben from Danellos tonight about which direction to go with the tune, we'll do a flex setup initially, ill see what my thoughts are on 98 and then take it from there. I mainly one want or the other, i dont want to be mixing both e85 and 98 for a weird hybrid fuel combo. -

Exhaust end of this month, and then tune after that whenever there is availability. Still tossing up between a pure 98 tune or a flex 98/e85 combo. The (lack of) milage in e85 isnt great. Start to get anxiety if i go for a long drive and there arent any united servo's nearby -

I only found out about Jesse's shop after meeting with A4E and having a good chat about what direction to go in with the car and exhaust setup. I didnt want to go back on my word as thats a bit of a shitty move, especially since Luke took the time to meet with me and have a really good chat. Theres not many places that do that anymore, most of the larger commercial workshops churn through the process like a production line, quantity over quality etc. -

Yeh... literally every time i jump on a forum, see an instagram post or see an engine bay at a car show, i get an idea and add it to my 'to do' list. So what started off as, hey can u just make a couple of intake hard pipes because my dumbass bought the wrong apexi kit, blew out into a 2 week job including braided brake lines & custom bash kit for the front lip haha. Getting Luke from A4E engineering to make a full custom exhaust with a controllable aes dump valve so i can actually switch between quiet and loud, because right now its just loud all day every day. Then after that go and get the tune redone flex e85 & 98 as i get bugger all milage from e85, makes going for longer drivers difficult -

Thanks for bringing this workshop to my attention, i didnt know about it before and Jessie did some Fabolous work on my car! Helps that its close to home as well, hate having to drive half way across melbourne for a decent workshop. https://www.instagram.com/p/DIPwaQ1yHMe/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&igsh=MzRlODBiNWFlZA== -

PotatoCake replied to PotatoCake's topic in Exterior & Interior Styling
Dont disrespect family, otherwise swat will you know... Yeh i still cant wrap my head around 180's going for $50k plus, i still only see them as $3,000 beaters that only broke uni students used to drive -

Ive got a hicas lock bar, so thats effectivley disables it. I found this wheel on market place, looks to be in pretty good condition, would it just bolt straight in? https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1218520015890587 -

Dumb question, but why would it matter if the wheel came off a car with hicas or not? -
The steering wheel on my 97 s3 gtr is a little bit worn out, so im on the hunt for something mint. I notice that this type of steering wheel is on several other nissan's of the era. Does anyone know if their all identical, or are there slight differences? I feel like gtr tax applies to anyone selling one, but if it comes from any other car the price is much less, even though its the same design. Chat gpt says the material for the gtr is slightly different and it says gtr on the wheel, but every pic ive seen it just says nissan.
