whats up sydneykid... I recently just built a mock-up CAI out of PVC and have an HKS Super Mega FLow filter at the end... I have already ordered 3" mandrel bent steel-aluminized (it's a total of 3 90* bends and about 24-30inches of straight piping.. i'm having a CAI welded up by a friend (i can get away with this in the states) I routed the piping through the fenderwell and the filter is directly behind the front bumper and there is a massive hole for lots of air to flow I haven't done any research for an oilcooler as of yet... but could you give me any suggestions on what to look for when purchasing an oil cooler... brand, model... keep in mind this is in my s14. I forgot to mention i'll be getting the apexi boost controller (compatible with the PowerFC) as well... Please give me any suggestions or technical advice that you have to offer... my eyes have your attention. Thanks -Andrew

What's up Fellas... I need some critical advice and i'm afraid i can't get it in the states... not enough information! I'm about to order some major upgrades for my rb25det powered S14 and i'd like to know any other components i would need to keep my vehicle reliable and safe! Here goes... So far all the mods I have and installed on my car can be found in my signature (the basic essentials, 3" catback, 3" testpipe, 3" downpipe, walbro 255 fuel pump, nismo FPR, nismo thermostat, Hybrid FMIC, ACT 6 puck clutch, flex-a-lite 220s, Tomei 256* poncams, PowerEnterprise timing belt, Brand new Water pump, Tein HE coilovers, R33 GTST front brake conversion, 300zx master brake cylinder, SPL stainless braided brake lines... so on and so forth) Now for the MODS!!! Later today i will be ordering the following from Nengun.com -Apexi PowerFC + Commander -HKS GT-RS turbine Kit -Nismo 555cc injectors -z32 MAF Please let me know if there is anything else i would need to have replaced, upgraded or tinkered with before i make these following upgrades. ***I am fully aware i need proper tuning and after i do the following installations, i will be taking the car to a tuner to be dynoed and have the powerFC tuned Thanx for any suggestions you guys can throw at me! -Andrew

thanx for the suggestions guys... i fixed the prob! The ghetto made CAI i built was made with a 3" -> 2" reducer that attached to the MAF and the 2" PVC i used to plub a CAI... i believe the 2" piping was too restrictive which was causing this problem. It's getting hot here in the states and i would definately like to use a CAI... Therefore, i'm going to try and use 3" pvc and see how well that works out.

Checked it out in the daylight today... all my intercooler couplings are tight and no leaking there... couldn't find any suspicious vacuum lines leaking... However i did find this... car parked, in neutral... i would rev... boost begins at 20psi vacuum... reaches 0psi vacuum... and at about this time Boost gets dumped and a rubber/silicon coupling (between the compressor and the hotpipe) completely collapses....WHY???? Shouldn't this coupling be channeling air from the compressor down the hotpipe and into the intercooler to be cooled???? [/img] See picture above (the coupling that collapses is circled in red) I need help in a desperately bad way fellas please!!! thanx -Andrew

the silicon pipe fittings that join the intercooler itself to the intercooler piping have began to bulge on both sides... i can squeeze them and feel air .. like a balloon... is this normal?... maybe this is what is wrong?

1995 240sx SE with a 1996 R33 RB25DET SII Mods are as follows: rb25det, Mckinney Mounts, Blitz NurSpec Catback, 3" Test Pipe, Mckinney 3" Down Pipe, ACT 6 Puck, Nismo Thermostat, Nismo FPR, Tein HEs, R33 Front Brake Conversion, Walbro Fuel Pump, FAL 220s, Hybrid FMIC, SPL Stainless Brake Lines, HKS Filter, Tomei 256* Poncams, FNo1Rc's 17x9 +15 on all fours My car has been running great and i have no complaints so far... until tonight.... I drove around town for a while and then started to head back to my house... Hadn't gotten on it alllll night... until i hit the road i live on Gave her a little bit of hell... and as soon as i reached "redline" on the s14 tach... it wouldn't push anymore... almost like the wastegate vented all the boost... shifted into 2nd.... got up to redline... and same thing happened... i hear a "whoooshhh" and car goes limp... ___________________________________________________________ ok so i took it for a joy ride for about 10 minutes.... here's what's going on i have no boost controller... my car is set at stock boost: 7psi 1st gear dead stop... pulls ... boost gauge reads 4psi... reaches 7psi... holds at 7psi for a sec. or 2... then "whoooshhh" motor goes limp at approximately redline on the stock 240 tach 2nd gear... pulls... boost gauge reaches 4psi... almost reaches 7psi... (tach needle close to redline)... then "whooshhhh"... motor goes limp 3rd gear... same scenario **note... as soon as i hear the "whoosh" sound... the motor stops pulling... i could keep my foot down on the accelerator and the boost stays down and rpms don't climb too much.... If i let off of the accelerator long enough for the RPMs to fall back down... the motor comes back to life.... same if i shift into a higher gear Only things i've messed with my car lately are the following: -Built a CAI out of PVC -unplugged the maf.. cleaned it with a vacuum... plugged it back up unplugged -unplugged a plug... relocated it... plugged it back up... just moved it out of the way too clean up the engine bay... not cutting involved anything gentlemen anything?????

So injectors wouldn't be a neccesity at this point in time? I would like to get the PFC since it's going for such a great deal on ebay right now... There is a fuel station 15 miles away from my home that supplies race fuel (100-110 octane) But it's probably $4.50/gallon (US). Octane booster is cheap here in the states... If i did install the pfc prior tuning, ect.... would you reccommend booster every tank of fuel? How can i tell if it looks lean on the plugs or exhaust pipe?? What knock levels would i need to be running in and what levels should i look out for? Thanx mates i appreciate it!

You are correct, i am still running with the original injectors... I thought it was neccessary to upgrade the computer to even run bigger injectors. I'm not sure of the path i want to take... save more money... get powerfc, injectors, 90mm maf, bigger turbo +dyno tuning... It would make more sense to save myself some money in the long run to wait until i can buy all of these at once. That way i wouldn't have to keep being retuned with each individaul upgrade. I'm currently suffering from MOD-ILLNESS.... i can't stop even if i don't have money! Any opinions? suggestions? insults? Everything is welcome!

Hey fellas... I've been doing some searching and have come up with a very vague answer to my question... I'm in the market for a PowerFC+Commander for my rb25 powered s14..... I've found a company on ebay who sells them for (us) 870+45(shipping).. this is the ecu and the commander. My problem however... is I'm in the States.. And no one... NO ONE around here has datalogit software to tune the FC.... I have located a few shops that can tune using the software... but it is something that i will have to buy in order to be tuned... Money is an issue in this circumstance because i'm inbetween jobs right now... Therefore, I am toying with the idea of purchasing the power FC... and waiting until i have the funds to get the software+converter and a dyno tune session.. Which brings me to my question... How does the rb25 run with the set basemap? I have read that it's actually quite conservative... Also, how would these basemaps perform if I were to run them for over a period of 6-8 weeks with out tuning? Thanx for your knowledge gentleman it's been a pleasure.

Sorry to be such a pain... but why do you suggest this next... i'm sorry for my incompetence... just would like to know how the powerfc is going to help and what exactly i will beable to do with it

My swap is basically finished... My mechanic is just waiting on a few more parts to arrive and install... I'm anxious to get some more parts but what exactly to get is my dilemma. List of parts so far is in my signature... granted the misc. little things (new water pump, PE timing belt, PE MagII oil filter, boost-water temp-oil press-fuel press gauges) Now what? Should I maybe focus on my suspension for a little while... maybe purchase aftermarket sway bars, strut bars, power brace, subframe bushings, tie rods? Should I focus on tuning... boost controller, safc... i'd really like to go ahead and say screw both of those and get the PowerFC. (there isn't a dyno anywhere close to here but i'm not afraid of traveling) Anything else i'm missing? Should I focus on other misc. parts? i.e.- oil cooler, short shifter, injectors, BOV, oil catch tank, wastegate, stainless steel clutch lines, Greddy intake plenum (even though i have the hybrid FMIC kit which is designed for the stock intake plenum) New turbo perhaps?.... Just looking for some helpful insight and suggestions... I'm open to anything.

I still have had no luck locating a CAS bracket... does anyone know of any wrecker companies i could email or have any solutions please post!!!
-
Thank you for the input that is helpful! Now how would i go about locating a CAS bracket???
-
I need a new CAS and i was curious if the SI and SII rb25det CAS are interchangeable.... I have a SII rb25. ***What i'm really after is the Bracket that mounts the CAS... Mine snapped clean in half and this isn't something i can just go pick up at the hardware store... keep in mind my CAS is in working orderr... Would i have to buy a whole new CAS to just replace the bracket or does anyone have a spare lieing around??? thanx
-
I live in the states so this is a hard one to source... i discovered mine was broke in half when i removed the CAS... anyone could you please help me out... thanx!

What's up everyone? I have researched quite a bit on this subject and have found SK is a very informative rb guru... especially on the subject of camshafts... My current situation.... 95 240sx SE SII rb25det (production date: 8/96) -installed ACT 6 puck clutch Hybrid SE FMIC Nismo FPR Nismo Thermostat PE timing belt New water pump Fabricated Turbo elbow 3" downpipe 3" test pipe 3" blitz nurspec R catback Walbro 255 fuel pump FAL 220's I'm almost finished with this swap... When i removed the CAS... i discovered the bracket to the CAS was snapped in half and my exhaust camshaft was broken... So this brings me to the market of upgrading my cams... Not looking to go into the high revs so i'm not interested in replacing my valve train or grinding the head. I'd like to keep my VVT as well! SK you have suggested numerous times that a 256* cam is ideal for mild street upgrade which is what i'm looking for... nothing above 9.00mm lift as well. I've shopped around and there are basically 2 companies i have found that supply what i need... www.takakaira.com and www.greenline.com takakaira.com supplies HKS cams for the rb25 at $351(US) a piece -256* 8.8mm IN / 256* 8.8mm or 260* 9.00mm EX greenline.com supplies Tomei Poncams for the rb25 at $573.64(US) IN/EXpackage -256* 8.5mm IN/ 256* 8.5mm EX All together greenline.com is going to save me atleast $200 extra... and since i have already stated that i'm not interested in grinding my head or replacing the valve train... i'm looking for opinions on which would be the most wise decision. I'm looking to *eventually* reach 300rwhp... this car is going to be my daily driver and reliability is a must!!! Basically i'd like it set up for mostly street and occasional track days. In advance thanx for your input gentlemen... i'm located in the states and there are very few knowledgable with this type of information.. appreciate any kind of help i can get. -Z1nk
