Dazmo's R33gtr Build

To much of a hassel and I personally am not a fan of tuning a 4wd car in 2wd as you will not see 100% accurate load on the engine in 2wd. Just a lot easier to take it to my mate 5 min from home + the hourly dyno rate for me = free. The main reason that i did not take it there to begin with was that he was o/s at the time. -

Hey Baron. Paul Masterson. Masterson motorsport/stafford tune aka MOTEC QLD has done all the wiring, light throttle and cold start stuff but as he only has a rwd dyno he has been useing mercury motorsport's 4wd dyno. Wich i personally think is a bit of a peice of sh1t seems like it is in need of a bit of maintanence last time I was there the speed control was playing up etc. And is a pain in the arse to trailer the car to brisbane for tuning. So a mate of mine Steff Zalanek that ownes the dyno at chip torque (they lease the dyno and workshop from him) on the gold coast is going to finnish it off as i will get the dyno time and his expertise for the right price. He has a lot of experiance with Motec ecu's and has been tuning pretty serious mainly race cars here and thruought asia for a long time now. Am very happy with Pauls job and is definatly no reflection on him that I will be getting Steff to finnish it off. It is just purely down to convience for me (5min trip from home). Paul will no doubt be involved as the car progress's and will also be doing some of the tuning down the track. These are the only two people i feel comfortable letting tune my car and as they are both extremely busy and traveling regularly it is good to have acces to both of them. I have no doubt that the guys that do Mark and Russ's cars do a great job but i have the wrong brand of ecu for them and it is my personal opinion that they are in need of some serious attitude adjustment. -

Thanks guys is coming along but as we all know these things always take longer than expected especially when you run into drama's along the way That is the plan. I have all the confidence in the world that the car will be more than capable will just have to see about the driver though in saying that there seems to be a lot of accountants and companu ceo's driving porkers that would definatly fit into the same catagory. -
Keep the R33 and upspec it a bit Russ. That we can race each other seeing as Mark (hollywood) Berry has built the unbeatable GTR and wont have to much compition once fully sorted at least we should be able to keep each other honest lol.

Dazmo's R33gtr Build

Hey all just a quick update. Have had a few headaches with the car got it on the dyno and did all the light throttle and cold start and then started to give it a few power runs. This is when the drama started to unfold with 1bar of boost as soon as it would get to 5k rpm it would start to push coolant out of the radiator but the car never ran hot. So off the dyno it came to get to the bottom of the problem. It had built up so much pressure in the cooling system that it had started to baloon the end tank of the radiator. so pulled the engine out and stripped it down. Had the head crack tested all ok deck of block dead straight. I could see slight indication that the head gasket had lifted. After a bit of head scratching finally found the problem was a faulty thermostat it was opening enough to circulate thru the cooling system at lower rpm but causing a major restriction as soon as rpm was lifted. This would have contributed to creating a weak spot in the gasket allowing combustion pressure to finnish the job. a bit odd thou as I would have thought that the pump would have cavitated or radiator hoses would have let go first ( they were balloning and makeing an attempt to let go but somehow managed to hold on). Car is now back together and all seems fine have had it on the dyno breifly and have driven it for a few klm's to check coolong system is operating as it should be. and all seems good. Now just waiting on my tuner to get back from dubai / shrilanka to finnish off the tune so finger crossed i will have some results within a few weeks. Have also purchased some new suspension components for the car so will post up some pics soon. -

I disagree it is not an individual choice but rather an enforced rule. If your car is over 95db you are not allowed to run at lakeside wich is a bit of a joke in my personal opinion as this does rule out a lot of serious track cars that (myself included) would love to run there lets face it 95 db is not a great deal of noise I have a stock standard R32GTR and was recently tested by the police for db in a stationary test and it tested at 98db and this is 100% standard so i seriously doubt that my race car is going to be anywhere near capable of meeting 95db. -
Top quality job there mate. A little of a shame to start with such a clean example as quality R32GTR's are pretty thin on the ground among the sea of rough/average ones. I love to see a car built to this standard as it doesnt take that much extra effort to turn something good into something exceptional. I can only think of a few cars i know of that fall into this catagory Giants old R32GTR and the new R34GTR, Sam Markovs R32GTR, the BMS R32GTR, your car and hopefully people would rate my own car in this company as well. I should have an update on my build thread very soon by the way I cant understand when you see so many cars at tracks that have good pace put are really rough why not just put in the extra effort for the amount that it costs to build a car of this caliber I cant for the life of me understand the "thats good enough" metality a lot of people seem to have. Keep up the good work mate.

+1 could not have said it better myself. Funny how the fastest car followed by 3rd and 6th fastest cars of the event were warned off for "drifting" when it would seem that the way they were driving seemed to be that fastest way around the track. Last i heard drifting was not overly condusive to fast lap times -
R35 GTR's have a gearbox safty function that will reduce the throttle imput at the throttle body regardless of the position of the pedal if it senses to much torqe load on the gearbox. Is quite feasable that this is the culprit behind the average times. just because a car makes a certain amount of power is not always going to equate specatacular acceleration times as getting the power to the ground is they key and with a lot of modern cars there is a lot of computer trickery going on. The most powerfull car is not allways the fastest.

I have a COBRA suzuka s in my car and am very happy with it comfortable offers good support, quality material and reasonable priceing. But again +1 for sitting in as many saets as posable to find the best fit for you. Personaly though i like the COBRA followed by RACE TECH then SPARCO. Some of the recaro seats are excellent but are also reflected in the price of them.

That question has pretty much been answered the price and the fact that the Ruzic Engineering gear does the exact same job as the AIM etc but for a price you cant go past. A mate of mine who's car I do all the work on has just ordered an AIM dash that has the same functions as the Ruzic gear and it is $3300.00 wich may be ok for him due to the budget he has to support his racing. But for me it makes more sense to use a product that does the same job without any compromises in its performance leaving me with more money to put into other parts of the car.

Just Finished the install of one of Pauls Ruzic engineering em pro2 dash into my R33 GTR track car last weekend and could not be happier is an excellent unit brilliant features easy to read and with out a doubt the best value for mony dash display and data logging available with brilliant technical back up by the guy that actually designs and manufatures the units. Still have to wire up the data logger but I would highly reccomend this dash and more of a bonus if you are running a vipec with install made easy just pluging into the can bus or serial port. Not 100% sure you would need to confirm with Paul Ruzic (aka mountainrunner) on the price but I think the EMPRO2 dash sells for aroung $700-$800 including everything required and the RUZIC ENGINEERING RACE LOGGER sells for around the same money but you may need additional sensors depending on what you want to log.

Hey guys was chatting with a mate on the weekend that is a mechanic for nissan and off to melb this week to finnish off his training coarses. He was telling me that the labour rate for R35GTR services will be charged out at $250.00 an hour. And there are a few little surprises for the dealer to milk more cash out of owners such as a 1.5 hour test drive (@ $250.00/hr) to bed in your brakes after a very expensive pad and rotor change. The cost of genuine oil and other consuables will not come cheap either. Dont get me wrong the R35GTR is a brilliant car on paper and even better to drive but it seems that the R35GTR may not be quite as affordable as the purchase price alone would lead everyone to believe. Regardless of the performance charging lambo/ferrarii service costs on a car that still carries a nissan badge wont go over to well with a lot of potential buyer's IMHO.

Hey guys a quick update. Had a few little issues with the car wich i should now be on top of. Unfortunatley though i have been unable to dedicate much time to the car over the last few months due to work commitments the ecu install is done and have performed some cold start and light throttle tuning. I will hopefully get the time to get the full power tune done early in january as my tuner is back on th 12th so i will be trying to get the car booked in first cab of the rank.so will hopefully have a some results to post up before to long. Angus the fuel pumps are working without any problems though this has only been during light load running in. Bosch pumps are always a little noisy but this seems fairly unavoidable. Though I have run the same fuel system in another GTR that i have built that has done some serious track time without any problems. The fuel temp does not seem to be a problem but if you do have any heat issues with your fuel i would recomend checking your fuel reg as I have had some drama with fuel temps while running sard regs as they seem to restrictive for high hp aplications once changed to a larger free flowing reg the fuel temp issues were no longer a problem. Hope that helps Daz. -
All the same except one of the 10mm bolt holes on the top of the pump is elongated just make sure you use an apropriatly sized washer on that particular bolt and a little extra 3bond around it and you should not have any problems.

Have not heard of or used this product but will be installing a data logger in my R33 race car soon I am useing a ruzic engineering data logger Paul the guy that makes them is in the final stage of finnishing the production model should be a verry good unit with local support and back up as well as future software upgrades. check his stuff out at www.timeattack.com he is also a user on this forum user name mountainrunner and one hell of a nice guy. I think his unit will do everything you require.

thank you. muchly appreciated.

Does any one know the formular for converting cc to grams per min to work out injector sizing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is bullsh*t $57 000.00 does not buy you a luxury car these days. What a load just a blatent tax grab just like the alco pop tax. WTF is up with this stupid government at least we should only have 3 more years of stupidity to put up with.

The poor bastard probably hasn't had time for a shave i would say some one has been keeping him busy building their car for them while they supervise whilst sipping bourbons

Not had any problems with the scavage of the head as the pump does not need a great deal of oil in the scavage stages to keep it properly lubricated. Have run the same dry sump set up on another car that i have built that has done quite a few klm's now and works a treat. With a dry sump set up you should not need to run a oil restrictor in the block so you should not have any problems. The wiring is for the motec is around 3/4 done at the moment should be done by the end of the week or early next week and then will be getting a tune so should have some results by then providing no little hicups pop up. -
The 7k TOMEI 2.8 stroker kit is cheaper as it does not have a full 12 counter weight crankshaft it only has a 8 counterweight crank so for circuit use i would prefer the HKS step 2 2.8 or the jun 2.7 as both have the full 12 counterweight crank.
