Dazmo's R33gtr Build
dazmo replied to dazmo's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Risking I am running filters in all the scavage lines before the pump and also the one in the boot before the tank although the filters that peterson supply will not stop any bearing material going thru the pump if you happen to have a catastophic failure but the pumps are very resilaint and need to have some fairly large size schrapnel go thru them before it will damage them. The filter in the boot before the tank thou if much finer and will catch any bearing material (hence the size of it so as not to impeed flow) should you ever have that problem. I will be doing betwwen 500 and 1000 klm's on the engine before the ecu is fitted and in sees a dyno. -
Basic Mods To Improve Handling For Track?
dazmo replied to R33GTS25's topic in General Automotive Discussion
I would reccomend getting rid of the g4 coilovers if you can sell them without tearing up to much coin and get some better quality coilovers tien(oz spec) bilstien etc as the G4's are a cheap chinese coilover and you will be surprised at the difference in the handling with a better quality shock and definatly go for sway bars as these will make a world of difference for the price. -
R34 Gtr Prices -price Projections?
dazmo replied to SLY33's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
I doubt R33-R32 prices will drop at all as they already seem to have levelled out at their bottom price for the time being. But i think that R34 prices will drop for a little while as many japanese upgrade from the R34 to a new R35 but then will probably stabilize and then possibly even go back up slightly as drivers of R32-R33 models take the opertunity to upgrade to the R34. At the end of the day it is all about supply and demand. -
Just thought i would post some pics of my R33GTR circuit car. I am still in the process of building it but am starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel. Have just got the car running and am running the new engine in at the moment 40klm's so far but still plenty of work to go. Build time so far has been around 18 months. Specs are as follows. 1995 R33GTR non vspec (dont let the sticker fool you) Interrior: 6 piont roll cage, Cobra suzuka seat, 6 point Willans harness, Seabelt seuade wheel Suspension: Tien super street coilovers with EDFC, Whiteline front and rear sway bars, Whiteline front camber kit, Tien adjustable castor rods. Hicass will be deleted. This suspension set up will get some attention as soon as the budget permits. Brakes are currently Brembo F50 front calipers with 355mm rotors on flaoting hats with ferrodo ds3000 pads and standard brembo rears with project mu pads. Engine: N1 engine block, HKS step 2 2.8lt stroker crank, HKS rods, HKS step 2 2.8lt piston kit (different pin height), full Tomei metal gasket kit inc head gasket, inlet manifold, throttle body, exhaust manifold, turbo & dump pipe, Head has been mildly ported and fitted with HKS inlet and exhaust cams 264 10.2mm & 272 10.2mm respectivly, Tomei type B valve springs and retainers, Tomei cam stud kit, ARP head stud kit, HKS cam gears, Nismo timing belt. Hi Octane modified sump with a custom dry sump set up running a peterson 5 satge pump 3 pickups from the sump and on off the back of the head, Peterson 3 gallon oil tank, ARP main stud kit, ACL race series bearings, N1 water pump, Tomei exhaust manifolds, HKS gt2530 turbos, Hks adjustable waste gates,HKS hard piping kit, Tomei 3" dump pipes, Custom front pipe twin 3" into 4", Full 4" exhaust. Fuel system: standard fuel pump used as a lift pump custom serge tank, Twin Bosch 044 fuel pumps running thru two -6 delivery lines and 1 -6 return line to a HKS fuel rail, Sard 700cc injectors am currently undecided on wich brand of fuel reg i will use either a Magna fuel or Turbo smart Cooling: ARC 120mm intercooler, ARC swirl pot & Breather tank (not yet fitted), PWR custon radiator cross flow 75mm core with inbuilt water to oil oil cooler. Drive train: Is currently running a standard 5 spd gearbox with ATS carbon twin plate clutch. This will be swapped for a Getrag 6 spd (R34 gear box) with Ats carbon twin plate clutch a one piece carbon tail shaft as soon as the engine is tuned and will also be looking at fitting a ATS 1.5way front diff as soon as the budget allows. Electronics: Running the engine in on the standard computer injectors and afm's at the moment will be fitting a Motec M800 ecu as soon as I have enough klm's on the engine with motec boost control. Ruzic engineering (user name mountain runner) series 2 engine monitor, Ruzic engineering Race logger (in beta testing now) and will be looking at fitting a Ruzic engineering 4wd controller once the data logger is fitted so i can maximize my set up. There is probably a heap of other stuff i have forgotten but as like nearly all race cars it will be constant and ongoing deveolpment. All work on the car apart from the roll cage and exhaust fabrication has been done by myself in my shed out the back without the help of any sponsors so has been a long hard slog and kept me poor but am starting to see some light at the end of the tunnel and is starting to make all the hard work and sacrifice worth it.

Mark Berry Breaks Mt Cotton Hillclimb Record
dazmo replied to giant's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
Was a top effort and has set a new bench mark (pardon the pun) that i dont think will be broken for a while unless you guys decide to head back out there again soon. The few runs that i saw Mark do looked fairly effortless too. Sure didnt look like it was being pushed to hard though I am sure that this would be a different story from the drivers seat. And a 45.3 in the R35 Russ is also an awsome effort especially considering the tyres and the weight of the car wich is definatly a handicap around mt cotton puts a lot of well set up and highly modified cars to shame in a near stocker. Congrats again on yet another record you guys are definatly the benchmark for GTR's in oz in every catagory it seems bring on the R34 and set the bar even higher. I think you guys need to be to give the rest of us a chance to catch up. -

I removed the abs on the car that i built for a mate that competed in super lap (26R32 rego) grey R32GTR 8th outright and the 4wd works perfectly no problems at all and i have also removed the abs on my own R33GTR curruntly being finished off running the new engine in now and the 4wd works fine in that car aswell but for R34 it will definatly effect the 4wd.Should not be a problem in your car guys.

I had a very similar problem with this guy around 6-7years ago he built me a custom turbo t3/4 for my old R31 gtsx rb20 wich shit itself after no more than 3-4000klm's coped it on the chin and had him repair it only for it to shit itself again after around the same sort of k's on a brand new engine. To wich he promptly decided to tell me that i had not cleaned my engine block properly after machining before assembly (what a crock of shite) had the turbo sent elsewhere for inspection were they informed me that he had only installed a 180 deg floating thrust (supposed to be 360deg bolt down thrust) wich had understandably decintergrated. Bottom line is this guy doesnt seem to have a clue what he is doing or is a blatent rip off murchant and will never take responsability for his own f--k ups some how it seems it is always the customers fault. hopefully others that read this thread will steer clear of him and save themselves a heap of cash and heartache. sorry about the rant and good luck with the new setup should be a cracker.

Replacement For V8 Supercar Rules?
dazmo replied to GTR-N1's topic in Motorsport Discussion & Builds
There is no way you could seriouly think that running a modified road car week in week out could be that expensive in comparison to the current v8 super cars. i think they are around 250-300 000 k to build and to run a team around a million a year. Compare that to the cost of running a v8 brute. and as far as parity the brute series seems to be a pretty even formula that produces very interesting racing. -
No offence but going buy your user name and avitar you own an r31 so really have no place critisizing another cars cornering prowess. Dont get me wrong I have a big soft spot for r31 skylines haveing owned a highly modified one for nearly ten years (featured in HPI issue 75) but i can cirtianly say that they are not the best of cars to be throwing around the bends at a great pace. While I am not a huge corvette fan I definatly would not knock the new zo6 as it is one hell of a car and definatly worthy of the praise that it has recieved. All in all though the R35 would definatly be my pick.

Far out John you must be a gold lotto winner or the most dedicated track junki around as i recall some talk about you not getting paid to drive cars for a living . Dont take it the wrong way as i am by no means having a dig at you but that is a lot of track time and would make it hard for even the most dedicated weekend warrior to get in as much practice as you get you lucky bugger . You sure have the schedual most of us can only dream of though. What else can i say but i am jealious

Hey Russ just get that R34 down to around the 11-1200kg mark and shouldnt be a drama knocking of those pesky lightweights as we all know deep down (even Jamie) RB power without the weight handycap will rule supreme.
-
I would not bother mate I have had a good look thru what is up for grabs and most of it seems like pretty useless shite. The only thing that might be worth anything would possibly be some of the brake rotors. But i would think that even most of those would be rubbish.

We must all just be a bit more laid back than those southerners hey.

Paul i think if you guys can get on top of your oil controll issues your car has a lot of potential as a 1.18 something lap is nothing to sneeze at especially considering it is the first time you guys have found some corners so would be a little out of your element. The best way to overcome any negitive comment or sentiment is to get the car performing well and let the lap times do the talking wich i am sure you will be committed to doing by the way you are speaking and you obviously have the commitment to achive results as being an official RH9 memeber is no mean feat in itself. Best of luck with the car and come and say Hi at the next event.

Hi Richard Darren is my name I am actually a mate of Mark and Russ's was over in japan at tsukuba in december as well and may have seen you at the track but was not aware who you were. Will be good to catch up and meet you in person some day as both mark and russ speak very highly of you. Matty is a good mate of mine and I actaully built the car for him (he makes a good parts washer) although he helped alot the majority of the work was performed by myself in my shed. Thanks for the comments as i am sure all that actaully know what is going on would give credit were credit is due. Just is a bit much when people without any knowlage make negitve comments although that is to be expected on a forum i guess. I would always welcome constructive critisism but for all those that have nothing positive to add and no personel experiance in building or prepping a track car themselves dont do themselves any favours by posting negitive comments. All in all it was a great event and cant wait for the next round will be hopeing to have my R33GTR track car ready and hopefully a bit more track time to come to grips with the driving side of things as i personaly had a shocker behind the wheel and will be looking to improve on the last dismal performance dramaticly.

Thanks mate was really happy with the result the car went really well. Funny how some poeple have an expert opinion when they are more than likley incapable of achieving anything close to this themself (I suppose it is to be expected when kids get on a forum though). Will definatley be back at QR at the next time attack meeting with the R32 (26R32) so if you see me there come and say hi. I am currently building my R33GTR track car and it should not be to far off might have it at the next time attack day aswell will just have to see how i go for time. I wil start a new thread in the next few days with some pics of the 33 build.

Seeing as the engine holds around 12L of oil I hardly think that 2-300ml is a problem and as stated this is never ususally an issue. On this occasion the owner of the car simply sightly overfilled the dry sump tank. Yes the set up in the other car is a bit neater but in no way does that make this an average set up. Just for your information this car came 8th outright against a feild that is considered to be the best of the best in Australia. All the cars that where quicker were either race teams that race in the improved production catagory every other weekend or were built by professional workshops and are heavily sponsored cars all with drivers with considerably more on track experiance. In comparrison this car was built in my shed in my backyard and I am by no means a professional and dont even work in the automative industry so I would regard this as a extremely good effort and an achievment I am quite proud of. Just a word of advise I would keep the negitive comments and opinion to yourself if you have nothing constructive to say. Especially seing as you only just joined the forum and in your first post you commence to bag someones efforts. And by your own admission you have no experiance building race cars. I would be surprised if you even knew how a dry sump set up functioned. Maybe once you have achieved somethind of any noteriaty you will be in a position to pass judgment as it is all to easy to be a keyboard warrior.
