Just hoping someone could tell me approx how many hours should it take for a competent mechanic to get R32 GTR gear box out and then put back in.... Trying to figure out if a workshop is reasonable or not. Thanks.

Hrmm any theories about how this could happen? Wouldnt want to replace it then have it reoccur. Prefer to find the cause of the problem rather than just fix the symptoms. Bare in mind that all the clutch fluid has leaked out also... not sure if makes a difference.

CAR: 89 R32 GTR. Problem: The bell shaped metal housing that is attached to the firewall and to the piping for the clutch fluid reservoir has torn and all fluid clutch fluid leaked out. tear is pretty severe, much like a can being opened, inside i see a coil/spring of some description wrapped around a large metalic line or bar. Obviously the clutch doesnt really disengage anymore and the pedal feel is far from normal, having very little resistance for the first half when depressed, then having a very firm spot which when depressed further causes a "ping" sound and the pedal to skip/drop a few centimeters before becoming firm again. Questions: 1. Has a fluid leak caused the tear or has the tear caused the fluid leak? (fluid levels were fine 2 weeks ago when last checked) 2. How hard is it to get this fixed? Costs estimate? 3. What is function of the bell housing? Any help would be much appreicated and apologies for the noobness of my descriptions. Thanks in advance.

Hi, Ive left my above problem unresolved for quite some time now as i havent driven the car for many months however i have now i would like to solve it as now the problem has become a lot more serious. Hoping someone can assist. The problem just to recap is as follows ('89 R32 GTR) 4wd light comes on after around 30-40 mins of driving, it doesnt always happen, but most of the times that i drive for this amount of time it does come on and stays on until i turn the car off and turn it back on. Prior to a few days ago it seemed as if the problem was just with the light coming on but not a problem with the 4wd itself, ie the 4wd was fully functional(not sure if it was working when the light came on or not). In the last few days the problem has become worse. The light still comes on (most of the time) but now i have no 4wd at all regardless of if the light is illuminated or not! My mechanical knowledge is poor at best so apologies if i dont supply enough info.

Yes the 4wd and the hicas light come on when i turn the ignition on. Any ideas?

When i first got the car the hicas light would come on after 30 mins... then it changed to the 4wd light but the hicas light ceased to come on after 30 mins. Im not sure if the hicas light comes on when i first turn the ignition, Ill check tonight. Thanks for replying.

Any luck with these problems? I have an R32 GTR and my problems are almost exactly the same as yours. 4WD light comes on after 30 mins of driving, every now and then i get a click (relay?) from the rear of the car and my oil pressure guage displays all sorts of differant readings... HELP!

For the record I have also now recieved my stereo bracket.

Hi All, Seeing as we are talking about diffs i was hoping to get some thoughts on a situation i have with the diff in my 32 gtr. I only picked the car up recently and the diff seems to be fully locked no matter what the conditions. Real annoying. Ive changed the oil and it made no difference. So my thoughts are that its either stuffed or been intentionally locked. I dont know a whole lot about diffs, but i would have thought if it was "stuffed" that it would simply loose its LSD effect rather than have it permanently lock up, so i doubt this is the problem. However i also cant understand why someone would want to put a fully locked diff into a STOCK gtr. Any thoughts/feedback would be much appreciated.
