Purchasing My First Skyline (Help Plz)
sven laptop replied to Ash's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
A5h, firstly, let me wish you the best of luck with your first car purchase. We all know how you feel & how long you've waited for this important rite of passage. But do remember that your first car is the one you're most likely to make most of your (costly) mistakes in. You say if the clutch is buggered (for example) you'll have to keep the car off the road while you save for repairs. That's understandable, but it suggests that you should buy a car that's a bit cheaper & then leave yourself some kind of financial safety margin. There's nothing more annoying than paying off a loan on a car you can't drive! (Been there, done that). I know you've been waiting for ever & you know which car you want, but a little bit of patience or restraint now could save you a lot of drama in the future. This must all sound like a wet blanket to you. However it's a way of warning you about the very common pitfalls of car ownership. And finally, if you're determined to buy a GTS-t (a high-powered car), the best thing you could do for yourself, your insurance premium & everyone else on the road is to do some driver training - particularly if you're looking to drive a manual for the first time. Here endeth the lecture & best of luck with whatever you decide. -
it depends whether you're talking about price per property or price per square metre. Brighton leads on price per square, but on the whole Toorak still has the most expensive houses. Mind you Elwood is very close uin terms of price of land.

Just so you know, Success Motor Imports is now taking up about half of the car yard next door. The manager of Success (at least he said he was) owns the Stagea & showed me an article one of the hot car mags did on it a year or 2 ago. He reckons he's been in legal dispute with the owner of the car yard (the land itself) for years & that's why he's had to move. Has anyone here ever bought a car from him?

Try Shannon's & tell them you're an enthusiast. It actually pays to join a car club to prove it. They quoted me about $800 for full comprehensive on an unmodified R33 GTSt sedan. However, that was on the condition that I do only 10,000ks a year.

Any motorbike nuts in here?
sven laptop replied to Silver-Arrowz's topic in General Automotive Discussion
Other issues to note: you can have v-twins (configurations as listed above, plus Harley Davidson traditionally makes a 45 degree v-twin) or a boxer twin (180 degrees apart, like a BMW R series or half a VW beetle engine) or a parallel (or inline) twin, like the old English Triumphs & Nortons etc, where both pistons go up & down together, with one cylinder firing on each rotation of the crank. V-twins have some benefits in packaging, ie often not as tall as a parallel twin or as wide as a boxer, and also some benefits in power delivery due to their firing order. Because of their shape they also tend to give you a lower centre of gravity in most cases, which is particularly useful for a bike's handling. Apart from anything else, they also tend to give a nice "pulse", and don't shake as much as a parallel twin. ....and they sound brilliant (except Harleys) -
1994 CRX with VTEC --- FOR SALE
sven laptop replied to blx's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Can I ask why you're getting rid of the CRX after 2 months & why you're also selling the GTS-t? -
G'day pearman. I don't know if most cars come thru Bisban. (it's my 1st time importing), but the reason mine's going there is that it was the closest plaxce to Melbourne that still had a compluiance plate available for a R33 GTS-t. So the guy who's organising the import arranged for the compliance to be done there, then the car will be put on a truck & sent down south. By the way, I'm using J & H Car Imports from Romsey, Vic. As I say it's my 1st time, but they come highly recommended & clkaim to have been importing from Japan for 16 years. We'll see how they go when the car arrives. Cheers - Sven *** PS: The RS Turbo is now SOLD.***

GTST88: You're 17 years old. Even if you have a Malaysian license you are by no means an experienced driver. There's a good reason why insurance is so expensive for people like you - staistically you are the ones who have the most accidents, especially if you're driving a high-powered car. Be smart, get a less powerful car. There'll be fast cars around when you're older too you know! Others paying $2,700, $2,800 insurance: You realise that's more than $50 a week before you even turn the key??? Imagine what else you could spend that on.....
-
No, bugger it - keep chit-chatting about compliancing. It's all new to me, so I'm keen to hear about other people's experiences. By the way, the compliance plate has been kept aside for me at the compliance place in Brizzy & the documents are now with the Vehicle Safety Standards people in Canberra getting signed off. So, I'm told, it will all go pretty quickly once the car gets onto the boat. But I won't count my chickens until they hatch in my garage!

HKS panel style air filter
sven laptop replied to SilviaBoy's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
Has this been sold yet? If not I'm interested. Email me at [email protected] if it's still available. -
Pardon my ignorance (I'm new & my Skyline is on the boat as I write), but what the feck is a Power FC or even an AFC for that matter?
-
I'm going through J & H Import cars (based in Romsey, near Sunbury). My 93 model R33 GTST sedan should be on the boat within days, so I can't tell you how good a service he provides until I take delivery of the car, but so far he's been very good to deal with & doesn't appear to be too full of sales-crap. A firend of my brother got a Silvia through him & said he was excellent - quality car & no bullsh*t. John Whiteman is the guy who runs them. Email him on [email protected] But, as above, beware of the potential for problems finding a compliance plate. Mine is being complied in Brisbane, even though I'm in Melbourne, 'coz that was the only place he could get a plate. Good luck & let me know how it goes (I'm an jouranlist writing about importing cars). My email is [email protected]

Thanks Inasnt, I noticed the for sale section after I posted this notice. Hopefully it'll get seen there. As far as the Skyline goes, how long would you predict it would take to get here? The importer says 8 days on the boat to Brisbane, about a week being complied, another couple of days on the truck to Melbourne then maybe a few days more for good measure. All up, just under 3 weeks. (remembering that the compliance plate is already in hand & the papaers are now signed & in Canberra). Is your experience different to that?

G'day All. My 93 model R33 GTS-t manual sedan is about to be put on the ship in Japan, the compliance plate is secured, the papers are being processed & I expect to be a fully-fledged Skyline driver within a few weeks. Now I've just got to sell the trusty (& Thrusty) 93 model Subaru Liberty RS turbo wagon to pay for my new toy. Anyone interested? It's done 150,000km, drives beautifully & is completely original and unmodified. Let me know if you or someone you know is looking for one of these & we can talk details. Cheers - Sven.:uh-huh:

My R33 GTSt is about to be loaded on the boat (in time to beat the SEVS laws) and I'm paying cash. It's costing me less than I'm expecting to get for my '93 model RS turbo Liberty wagon.

want to swap car
sven laptop replied to supa_skyline's topic in For Sale (Private Car Parts and Accessories)
I've got a '93 RS turbo wagon (unmodified) with 150,000km on the clock that runs like a dream. I want to sell it to buy my R33 GTS-t, so anyone interested, let me know. But sorry mate, I wouldn't be too keen to swap it for a VS Conformodore. If you had a VT wagon then perhaps... -
Sorry, hate to disagree, but I reckon they look better in silver!

R33 import advice wanted
sven laptop replied to sven laptop's topic in R Series (R30, R31, R32, R33, R34)
Thanks for all the info one radios & security - it's all useful. I'm also after any information or stories people might have on how the importing process has worked for them, so if anyone has any stories they think others should know about, please let me know. If you'd rather not share these stories with everyone on the forum then contact me & I'll give you an email adress to send them to. Hope to hear from some of you soon. -
G'day, I'm about to import an R33 GTS-t manual sedan into Melbourne and I'm after some advice from people who've done the importing thing before. I've done a bit of homework, but I'm sure there's plenty I don't know, and lots that I should, before I hand over my hard-earned $$$ I'm a journalist and am planning to write a series of articles about the whole process, so any horror stories or stories with happy endings would be appreciated. Also, I need to find a good mechanic to service the car once it arrives ... I don't want to modify it (apart from an immobiliser & maybe an air filter & oil cooler), just get it well looked after by someone in Melbourne or south/east suburbs. The only other thing is that the car is coming complete with Japanese stereo & I'd like to know how to get the radio to work here. I'd appreciate any help anyone can offer on any or all topics. Thanks in advance.
