The ever evolving R32 GTR build
mr_rbman replied to mr_rbman's topic in Members Cars, Project Overhauls & Restorations
Soooo.....been a while since I've been on here and a bit has happened..... My mate who was spraying the SIL80 and of course doing me a good deal moved workshops and could no longer paint her up, I got a few quotes and they were all more than I really wanted to spend so bit the bullet and sold the SIL80. The new toy is seen below, i figured whilst not perfect it was a far better base to start with and being newer possibly less to do / go wrong.......more on that in the next post, i got her quite cheap and fitted up my newly acquired TE37's but 17 x 9 +22 don't work too well on S15's so they'll live on the GTR and for now I'll run the R32 GTR wheels.... -
Nrma Vintage And Classic Insurance
mr_rbman replied to walkoau's topic in General Automotive Discussion
just insured my S15; surprisingly through VVC........though it's costing me more per year than my GTR valued at more than double the agreed value :-/ So i went on to say i'm guessing my GTR policy once up for renewal will skyrocket..................without confirming she did say that many things had changed in the last 6-12 months -

any reason why u chucked the motor back in without turbos?!? -
Which should I go with GTX2863, 2530, or 2860-5
mr_rbman replied to Trailmix's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Mick, I have limited access to E85 here in the south of Adelaide so the plan was flex..... -5's i don't consider an option personally, we all know how lazy a standard bore RB26 is with twins, my current -7's setup is about as laggy as i'd want to get.... At the end of the day, my current setup I am happy with...........the only reason for considering other options is I believe I may have a turbo on it's way out so my thought basis was if i'm spending the money to remove turbos then why go to all that hassle to only net the same previous result. Why not spend a bit more (hi-flo turbos?, cams, injectors, E85 etc......) and net some more power.... The more i look into it though I think I could just be wanting too much given i don't want to go down the single path.... I don't think Dans results are too far stretched, from what I've seen not many people have gone down his path with E85 and his choice of cams.......they're certainly on the limit but not completely unbelievable..... -

ye -5 lag scares me to be honest and I think i'm already pushing -7 limits (98RON anyway) mmmmmmm -

mr_rbman replied to Trailmix's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
mmmmm, so really if i'm set on staying low mount twins but chasing more power & (same response (ish) than -7 power, i may as well just follow what ActionDan has done and get some -9's, cams & E85!?!? What I had initially planned: I have picked up a set of -7's (one blown) cheap as i suspect I have a failed turbo seal with one of my -7's. I was thinking of selling off the two good -7's and rebuilding the two failed ones but try and chase more power (currently 310rwkws @ 18-20PSI....) thinking/hoping high 300's... Sorry to thread hi-jack, just didn't think this warranted a new thread... -

mmmm, good read......as always on SAU Certainly makes me question doing a similar thing I've been toying with for some time now (have my -7's rebuilt with -9 rears and -5 fronts :-/).....staying low mount twins no matter what... Was also looking at using a mob in Sydney to do the turbo job who replied the same to you -

Finally got time yesterday to do a few of those fiddly little jobs but am very happy with the end result. Pictures speak for themselves... -

Things quiet at work so took last week off and decided to prep the Sil80 for paint (never prepped a car for paint before :-/) Pretty happy with where I got to, ready now for my mate who's spraying it to bog fill the dents. Many different coloured panels found but hardly any rust so looking good. Thought I'd do the brakes quickly while I was at it too. -

haha, don't get me wrong....incredibly tempting given the results they are producing..... but I've bought the sil80 to go a little more crazy with, the GTR will now be about slowly (partially) restoring whilst still giving it plenty of poke for those Sunday drives (the old school sleepa) -

It's a GTR, no other option (IMHO) -

Picked up a pair of -7's quite cheap as one had a seal fail. Reason for grabbing these is I believe one of mine may have done a seal. I'm getting white smoke but only on deceleration after a hard run. (could also possibly be valve stem seals!?!) My thoughts are to look at possibly selling on the two good turbos and look at getting the 2 failed ones rebuilt and more importantly hi-flowed...... My goal is between 360-380rwkw's with the best response possible. Of course with supporting mods (Kelford cams, 1250cc injectors, ARP head studs, More boost, E85 etc.....) think I have all the other supporting requirements..... Going to research more and possibly chat to @hyper-gear & @Forgeperformance about putting some new tech into these old turbos so that hopefully I can make the power I want with all of it in before 4000RPM......mmmmm wonder if I'm expecting too much I am very well aware that a single will do all this.....and some easily but that's not even a consideration for me..... -

Only a small update but goes along well with the theme of continuing the general tidy up of the car... New left hand reverse light to replace my old cracked one... -

new adjustable bushes in front control arms ready for install -
As I'm following a similar budget path to yourself I'm curious about a couple of things..... I was looking to just run some cheap second hand jap shocks and springs, not 'coilovers' but the 'cheap' sets I've bought have leaked so I'm contemplating biting the bullet and spending $$$ on some reasonable but on the cheaper side 'coilovers' I believe you run the BC's........thoughts?! Also, coming from 'R' chassis my whole car life and this being my first 'S' chassis strut braces have been more for looks (wank) from my experience but upon reading a little further it would appear the strut braces are quite a worthwhile and cheap upgrade for an 'S' chassis car......thought?!

New shoes for the SIL80. Gearbox is having second gear replaced and flywheel machined. Will hopefully begin paint prep in the next couple of weeks. -

In the process of replacing bushes in front & rear camber arms with the adjustable occentric (spelling?) Whiteline items. Found whilst doing this the whole rear has had all bushes replaced prior to my purchase (blue items, so assuming Superpro???) but no adjustment, will either sell these or chuck them in the SIL80. -
Would've thought at least $30k based on the above. My car is by no means flawless but was still valued at $40k without even trying....
