  1. That's unfortunately part of owning a car that has been hyped so much in video games and such. I generally take it as a compliment by pay them no mind. There's nothing to "prove" on the street and you've already given them the excitement of seeing and hearing your car. Like Terry said, seeing a GTR let loose on the track or Texi is far more exciting. Welcome to the forums.
  2. Nice work there Sean. I'll be quite interested to see how you go.
  3. Oh, and will be blacking out the chrome in matte black. Just haven't gotten round to that yet.
  4. So thread resurrection. Not really finished yet but I've had this project and doing a little here and there over the last year when I have the spare time. I've also got an motor rebuild happening so this is going to take a back seat for a few weeks since the parts are starting to come back in. This is quite different from anything I've seen on R33's. I also have modified the grill to come out almost to the front of the bumper. The "eye lid" will extend the bonnet line. I will be finishing in fibreglass and then doing carbon overlay over the top.
  5. Um, there is a tech night on for 2pm in Botany. You just might lose a few of us to that. But just thinking about those ribs has been salivating.
  6. Dang boy, you don't mess around. Nice fully counter weighted. You going to use an. N1 or R block for that?
  7. Small change of plans on my build. I'm going to use the Nitto Rods. So now my Carrillo H-Beams are up for sale. 1 Set of used Carrillo H-Beam Rods $450 (need to have the small end bushes replaced due to JE Pin's being oversized from stock)
  8. It's really too bad my old Autronic SMC can't do flex fuel. I'm going to run a similar set up to Scott's with bigger cams. Change of fuel pump (and e85'n my system) would see 400's. So tempting but may have to wait for the next minor round of upgrades. Great result there Scott! Really has me stoked for my build that will be similar -5 based set up.
  9. Coil packs with 11mm leads. If you run leads get good insulators to prevent inductance leakage and shorting through then insulator.
  10. I have a 500R CDI in my car. It's taken me ages to figure out how to get the most out if it. The spark is much hotter (more volts) but shorter. Multi-spark only occurs at low rpm. Because if the hotter spark, it eats regular old copper plugs so you must go iridium or platinum. Also, my unit can only do wasted spark. On those systems stay away from dual coils. Tried two sets in mine with same spark breakdown issue on high boost when hot (eg trackdays). Went single GM HEI coils with CDI and spark issues sorted.
  11. Oil pump sold - pending full payment. Also the I-beams are on hold. I might use them in my motor. If I do then will have my Carillo H-Beams for sale instead. Will find out based on advice from machine shop this week.
  12. I agree with most of what is said here. A proper driving course will teach you some of the theory and allow you to practice it right then and there. It's pretty important to understand the theory behind performance driving so that you can critically evaluate where you personally need to improve. But then there is the actual doing. When I first started doing track days (yes, it was long long ago....) I couldn't get past the rush of excitement that really clouded my ability to open up my senses to what the car was doing. This, I think, it the biggest hurdle as you get into driving. I still get that dry mouth excitement on my first session when I go out and I've done over a dozen track days. So my first session or two I just try to have a bit of fun and only drive to about 80%. Now, it depends on the kind of learner and kind of driver you are and the kind of driving ability you want to improve. You mention defensive driving in your first post. In my honest opinion if you want to improve on that, then coming to one of our Texi's would be well suited. Our Texikhana's are all oriented at learning to drive your car at the maximum potential under 80kph. You'd be surprised that most first timers have lots of problems with understeer and poor handling. Then they learn that it is their driving and especially learning to control the weight balance of the car under turning, stopping and acceleration. This is real world skill that you can directly apply to emergency situations on the road, like a kid on a bike shooting out in front of you or a big pot hole you didn't see until you were right on top of it. Of course at Texi you are competing on the course where as an advanced driving course they teach you more about controlling the vehicle in road type conditions. Bluntly, the advanced driving course will teach you how to bring and out of control vehicle to a stop. At texi we like to skid our way around it A real example happened to a friend where a car violently came into their lane in the rain. He used braking to weight transfer to the front and turn to avoid the accident by inches! His wife commented that she would have never been able to do that because she still believed it was dangerous to brake and turn in the rain. Track experience is quite different. It is about being on the limit of grip at speed or high speed down a straight line. You just don't do that on the roads, unless you are a lunatic that should have their license taken away. So most of what you learn there that can be applied to everyday driving skill is again car control and weight transfer management. One key aspect there is learning to feel what the car is doing adhesion wise by the seat of your pants. That can be extremely important in emergency maneuvers.
  13. Nice one there Mark. It will be interesting to see how you go with this and if you can pick up where Chubs is leaving off. Suspension and a few more HP should make a big difference. When I drove my wife's at wakie it did get too much body roll and that really hurt the times. The chassis on these seem pretty good for a convertible. Good luck with it.
  14. Poncams have sold. I still have the other parts (including the 270 Exhaust Procam) for sale.
  15. Yes! Great stuff. IN.
  16. My app is working again! It's letting me post and haven't gotten that error once today. Thanks to whomever turned the sau idle mixture screw
  17. So just about to add some -10 fittings to my stock sump and noticed that the ribbing in the sump only has just a few tiny holes for oil before it has to go over the "dam". Wondering if anyone else has added any extra drains?
  18. Done. Send me a PM with your bank details. (and be sure to pack it well so that they don't trigger off the G-sensor in the mail hehe)
  19. Is the g-sensor still good? Indicator still white? If so then I'll take it. PM me with cost of shipping to 2074. Thanks.
  20. Lots of parts still available folks.
  21. I'm interested in the mounts. Count them as sold.
  22. Thanks Terry! May send Dave around your way cause we are going karting on Friday and I can pick it up from him then. Yay! Cold drinks in the workshop again.
  23. Shame I didn't see the desk before I bought one for my office. I'd love to take the bar fridge though. I gave my garage beer fridge to my son to use as a primary. No I have no cold drinks in the garage for hot days like we've had this last week.
  24. Anyone thinking of getting into racing, don't worry too much about the kit for your first year. Stock class when I ran it had all kinds of cars and some very old stuff. Yes, there were a few disappointed young'ns that had Tamiya Plastic TA-01's that weren't competitive. But if you have just about any old racing chassis, I guarantee you that there is more to be learned about car driving and car set up than having the newest chassis will get you. My kit is now over a decade old. Been meaning to make a drift chassis out of one of my old grip cars. Just where to find the time.
