Like the others here, my condolences go to all the friends and family of these two great guys. Thanks Nick for your words of wisdom. I got to meet Gerard very early on in my club involvement. He would come up to have a chat and really made me feel welcome and instantly among friends. My thoughts and gratitude go out to you. -Eric

Sau:nsw Official Wakefield Trackday 2010 - Full
Pezhead replied to S13Deviat's topic in Events Archive
IN!!! funds transferred. Full Name: Eric Yamashita (aka Pezhead) Car Type: R33 GTR Newb or not: Not a track virgin anymore Most recent lap time if not newb (can be another track if necessary but make sure you mention which one): 1.11 @ Wakie # of Drivers: 1 # of Passengers & Name: 0 (for now) May have to update passengers but none for now. Who's organising Mike's? I need to stay overnight - will share with someone. Also, last time a few of us went in on the photo package to split the cost. I'm happy to burn and email CD's to folks so we can get the photos of the cars on the track. I think it was like $22 or so last time for 5 of us to split the cost. They do a package deal there at the track. -
Hey this is a great resource with lots of folks trying like us to learn to do this expensive stuff. Some of the results are good others well, nice to see folks posting up their attempts so that we can learn from what they are doing. You have to register to see the posts in the threads. And there is a specific thread on Carbon including vacuum bagging, overlay and carbon moulds. www.fiberglassforums.com

SuperCam is what I'm using - it only does 2d stuff but can generate GCODE. The machine also came with some other utilities but really haven't taken the time to learn them. To be honest the program is so simply it is just like windows paint - hehe. There is a Freeware CAM program out there but haven't taken the time to research. All of my work so far as mainly been 2d so been fine for me.

Afraid it is a bit more complex than that to do internal threads. First you can ONLY do it with a machine that has auto feed - that is gear drive to the x-axis on the bed (moves the tool towards the spinning head). You have to set the feed rate at the correct ratio to the spinning speed of the part. That way the thread pitch is correct. Then you need an internal thread bit. (Assuming you've already bored the hole) you then run the thread cutter in on autofeed. It may take more than one pass. I haven't had a machine that would do them, so been a long time for me. I always found internal threads a lot trickier than externals. If you can just tap the internal it is generally a lot easier.

Wow -that's a serious bit of kit! It is a good idea to figure out what you are going to use/need early on and just get that. Upgrading is expensive. Decide if you need CNC for the type of work you are going to do. I bought the Taig kit about 8 years ago and I seem to recall that my outlay was about 6k for the mill, lathe and the included software to run the cnc for the mill. The software is really expensive so look out for that too if you go CNC. Check out some of the on-line forums for some other's inputs. There is a good 7 x 12 (common reference for the mini lathes) and a CNC forum. Good luck!

I have a small machine shop in the back of the garage. I decided on a Taig Micro Mill full 3 axis CNC - although I'm only good enough to do mostly 2-axis milling. I'm pretty pleased with it for what it is. I primarily work in aluminium and polymer. It will do small cuts on mild steel but would go bigger if you plan to do much steel or s/steel work. I also have their lathe but wouldn't recommend it. You can get a lot better micro lathe. I want to upgrade soon to something that will do threads. Taig Website Been thinking about getting this lathe - good price. Oh, and the reason I need the tools it that I grew up as the son of a Boeing Machinist in Seattle. I thought everybody grew up with a full size mill and lathe in their basement right? Of course my dad wouldn't let me build a bracket or something for the car unless I had the exact plans drawn out... etc etc. I'm a lot more loose in my machining now. The other thing to look at is this really worth your effort or just find a good machine shop that will do parts for you. You can pay for their time - a lot for the price of the machines. For me, I enjoy it and it is part of my automotive skills. Oh, lastly, there are metal supply places around where you can buy stock - but is cheaper on ebay. I also bought a whole bunch of aluminium stock from a place that does hydrolic fittings - their scrap ends essentially. Of course in Seattle you just hop on down to Boeing surplus and buy the stuff by the pound - Really Cheap? and cutters by the pound too! Oh how I miss that.

there are some tutorials on youtube and around the web if you google. I agree even buying carbon cloth at the local $75 a yard makes any carbon work expensive. I purchased some carbon from the US for about $30 / yard to do exactly what you are looking to do. You can even Carbon overlay other parts like trim and interior pieces. The final gloss is done by layering three coats of epoxy and then wet sanding & polishing it back. Also if you do plan to do this work then be sure to really scuff up the surface of the fibreglass to ensure the epoxy/carbon has a good bond to the existing layup. I plan to post a tutorial after I'm done but it's going to be a few weeks or a month yet to go.

Is the torx screw stripped or is it free spinning not going anywhere? If stripped then use a drill and easy out to remove. Mine was free spinning meaning that the nut in the fibreglass had broken free. I carefully (and I mean CARFULLY) used a dremmel with a cut off wheel to grind the whole head off. Then sandwiched a wide flat screw driver between two sheets of cardboard to open the rear blade holders enough to get one side free. Was a pain but was the only way for me to get mine out.

-
Bump - Hey guys anyone looking for GTR rims? These are really tough on a GTST.
-
hmmm... Honey I just need to run a few errands, can I borrow your car? Well might be fun at Wakefield but not going to be as fun at EC in a bone stock MX5 vs. GD2ILA.
-
Ah! GD2ILA is trapped in my Garage while I get my driveway fixed. I won't be able to drive across the new concrete for a month. Bugger! This sound like a great event. Go SAU!

These have been sitting in my garage just collecting dust so figure someone might be able to use them. Complete Set of R33 GTR Ohlins Coilovers (Japan model). One rear one leaks a little so is in need of a rebuild. I decided not to clean or have it done so the buyer can decide if they want to do all or just the one. I've left them in the same condition as they came off the car so you can observe the condition. These are height adjustable and go Really low. In fact, I have the worst driveway in the world which is why I had to return my GTR almost back to stock ride height. These were on the car when I got it and since the previous owner did all the mods (including stock susp swap from below) I assume these have about 30k on them. Spring rates appear to be 7/9k. These have damper adjustment on front and rear. They don't come with spanner wrenches. Price: $400 - prefer Sydney pick up, but can post at buyer's expense Ohlin Suspension: Stock set of R33 GTR suspension. Noth'n special really - does appear to have aftermarket springs but I don't know what spring rate. Also these came as spares with my car so I don't know what the condition are but look ok. I assume that they did about 80-90 k. Also comes with original black springs too. Price $150 - prefer Sydney pick up, but can post at buyer's expense Original Stock Suspension:

Up for sale, R33 GTR Rims in good condition. These are a 17 x 9 + 30 forged rim - really light. A little gutter rash on one rim but none of it is very deep at all, would be easy to clean up. Also a few nicks here and there, nothing deep or serious. (Black marks are just rubber - I'm really lazy today and didn't really clean them). Original silver color. Come with 235 45 17 Dunlop slicks that have about 1-1.5 mm of tread left. Just enough for one good track day. Slicks are old but did run fine at my last track day. Want $950 for the complete set. Prefer local Sydney pick up but may be able to work out shipping if buyer arranges. Reason for selling: These are my track rims and I've already got a set of R34's on my car. Going to put something a bit more flash on for street so my R34's will become my track rims.

Please add me to the list - R33 GTR Thanks.

TV cameras are really expensive. The slow motion versions are Not really in reach of everyday person. I have a Casio Exlim FC-100 which is a point and shoot camera that does a decent job on video. On these cameras the slower you go the more resolution you loose. @ 210 fps (about 7x slow motion) you get about 480 x 360. It does also shoot excellent quality 720p hd, however it does not allow zoom when in video mode (my only complaint). There is a new model coming out soon that is supposed to have better iso ratings (e.g. better at shooting high speed in low light). But unfortuantely there aren't that many models of cameras/video cameras the offer better resolution and high speed. I'd love a 720p high speed, but none are out yet at the consumer level. I ordered my from HK ebay - digitalrev. Was pleased showed up in about a week and had extra battery and some other goodies thrown in. I think you can pick one up for around $300 now. See some of my videos on youtube for the slow motion video.

My Video of GD2ILA now up on the YouTube Channel. Sorry folks, I only took videos of the two cars. Nice to finally see that magic 300 number. Was up on the board, then then storm'n Norman went after me and bumped me by 30 kw.
