  1. So, you're going to enter it in the Show'n Shine - Ya? Would be a shoe in for "Besting Sounding @ > 8k rpms" - lol
  2. I figure it is the combination of heat and lots of boost that might degrade my oil. Basically 110-120 every session for 5-6 sessions over 120k's and a fair bit of boost. I thought that the boost will create bigger compression and therefore more blowby past the rings into the block - e.g. more contaminents. Also I use a return style catch can and get a fair bit of oil/air mix com'n out of the breathers then draining back in. All good advice here folks I will probably switch to doing the oil change before the track day.
  3. Hmmm, seems to make sense doing it before but means I'm going to go through twice as much oil changing before and after. Maybe I should keep the "street" oil and put that back in after a race day but only run on the race oil for just that track day. Another expense of having a track/daily driven car. Oh well, need to take care of the beast.
  4. Thanks, I thought it made sense. I was surprised at a number of guys that don't. I agree that ensuring I have quality oil is key to engine life.
  5. I plan to be there with my video and camera equipment. Want to be sure to document what is sure to be another great NSW SAU event. Let me know how else I can help.
  6. Ok here is a question for you fellas that track your 300kw Skylines. I've been changing the oil after every track day. My GTR makes about 290 kw and has oil catch can, oil cooler, bigger radiator and runs 14-18 psi lo/hi boost depending on the type of track I'm driving. After about 10 minutes of track time my oil temp is 120 where I do a cool down and come in. Since the oil temp is so high and on boost for so long I've always felt it is a good idea to change the oil right after coming home from a track day. Always been the first thing I do. So my question - do you fellas do that too? It is getting a bit expensive cause I only use Motul 300v or Mobile1 Full Syn - so about $100 for an oil change. This on top of track fees, brakes, petrol and tyres. If this is the cost then I'd rather spend $100 preventing oil related engine failure than $$$ for a rebuild. But just want to know how you folks go? I know a lot of other guys just do normal 5k and don't change their oil after every track day.
  7. Hey There Tenchi - I had the R33 GTR. Thanks Mate - these look Great! I always love seeing pictures of my car and the others I spend the day racing with. Some of those Track close up's are fantastic. That's a great Lens you've got there bud!
  8. Saw your's today - white wheels, front mount with blue-ish tinted hard piping. Nice! Like your front bar. Good that you also put a Club on the car, one lady had someone attempt to steal her Volvo C30 from the carpark - ballsy! That's why I park where there are cameras pointed at my car.
  9. So, I took the car to Wakefield yesterday. This is the first real track work I've done sine removing the Hicas. By the end of the day I was feeling so much more comfortable pushing the car. I must admit that I pushed it too hard in 2 of the morning sessions so gave myself a "time out" to get my head straight. My car is still too heavy to really slide hard into corners, but my exit right hander onto the back straight felt so good. I can enter at 110+ and use the throttle to slide to the outside up to the ripple strip on the back straight. It is SO much better than before. I managed a best of 1:11.7 (timed from video/frame accurate) - so I'm really chapped! I know the car can go faster, but I still have a ways to go to learn to drive it right. Removing the Hicas has been the biggest aid so far. so there you go - highly recommend!
  10. I'm pretty pleased as I just got back from Wakefield Park. Goal for the day was a 1:12 (prev. best was 1:17) so am absolutely chapped. I know it is as fast as a lot of you guys, but I'm finally learning to drive my beast into the zone. SAU Nickname: Pezhead Car Make and Model: R33 GTR V-Spec Circuit Name: Wakefield Park Lap time: 1:11.7 timed from in-car video/frame accurate to 1/30 sec Modifications Engine: RB26DETT Hiflow Turbos @ 1 Bar Power: about 260 (is 291 @ 18 PSI but didn't run high boost on the day) Suspension: Greddy S coilovers Tyres: 4+ Year old Dunlop Porsche Slicks Brakes: Hawk Blue / RDA Slotted all around Body weight: 1530kg full street weight (less subwoofer in the back hehe)
  11. Hey that's me! (the GD2ILA GTR that is). There is also Paul with MADGTR R34 as well. The super cars a driven by a guy named Lee. He belongs to the supercar club so drives the Ferarri California, Lambo, Austin Martin, R35 GTR and a few others in. He said the R35 is amazing to drive and just corners so hard! Well, if that's your R33 with the front mount, I've see your car in there a few times.
  12. If you do the Hicas yourself you can borrow my 30mm spanner. I did the project myself only to find that I didn't have a spanner and the adjustable spanner wouldn't fit - was $62 bucks at auto one! Let me know if you need it.
  13. From what I understand Hicas doesn't kick in until you are doing some speed - like 70kph. So on the street it generally won't make too much difference just on the highway. I'm taking it out to Wakefield on Saturday so will post my impressions.
  14. Ok, picked this up a few weekends ago and have to say I'm hooked! I love that driving from the inside of the car is so intuitive as good as outside the car. So, who plays it online? Can you set up your own races for others to join? I haven't upgraded to Gold Live but may be worth it for this.
  15. Entered, and I even remembered to put my name on the deposit this time. Please put me down for R33 GTR and Engine Bay. Thanks.
  16. I have three cameras I use in the car for the cruise I used one on the front bar (ATC2k) one shooting through the front window (Casio FC-100) and a reversing camera mounted on the back wing. I lost the reversing camera when I tried to mount it on the body behind the rear tyre. I think I had the suction cup mount across a body line which caused it to loose suction. Details in a post on motor sport video camera: See Post #147
  17. Hey there boys and girls, NSW SAU did a cruise last weekend and I've finished the video for it. Here have a look: Putty Rd Cruise Video We had a fantastic time. About 60-70 cars showed up and we had to break into 3 groups so we didn't become a moving traffic jam. Enjoy!
  18. I've still got LOTS of oversteer on the car, but hopefully now it will be a bit more predictable without the rear trying to steer for me too. I'm going to try some tweeks today to get the oversteer under control. I just want to get everything to stable base line - hence removing Hicas first. I bought this lock bar from Unique. It is the Chromoly one which should be very durable and slightly lighter than steel. Although, it's already a big improvement in weight from the Hicas unit. Most are about the same but be sure to get something that is quality, I'd hate to think what would happen if a weld came undone at speed! I've also got a fair bit of suspension mods done to my car - Greddy S-type coilovers 6/8 weight springs, adjustable bushes & adjustable rear camber arms. Next will be Caster bushes, rear subframe bushes and swaybars.
  19. How much boost do you run - stock or above 1 bar? I found on my R33 GTR with steel wheel hi-flows that at 1 Bar you get oil vapor mixing in the crank case. This is because on the track you are on boost a hell of a lot longer than on the street. In my case I have a breather off the valve cover hoses that started to "ooze" oil out. The stock hoses also actually pipe the breather link into the plenum just below the throttle linkage which pipes the oil filled air back into the induction system. Even though I now have a just jap catch can with return lines into the valve cover, on High boost situations I still get oil spitting out the back of the car. Check around your exhaust. If this is the case then what you are smelling is the oil in your exhaust system (coated inside). Also check where your breather lines go - in my case made a mess around the ABS unit.
  20. Here for those that would like a slightly higher quality version on Street Fire. New Link: Clicky Here!
  21. hehe check out all the skylines I spotted on the Putty Road Cruise. Putty Rd Cruise Video
  22. VIDEO IS UP!!! Good suggestion on Vimeo. Clicky the LINK Looks much better on the original I cut. The quality really degrades on these sites. Still worth the watch I think.
  23. I've gotten the video edited but having issues with youtube not liking the songs and metacafe takes several hours to validate. If Metacafe processes my video I'll have a post late tonight or tomorrow morning with the link.
  24. Was an ebay special less than $25 so no big problem. Actually I'm thinking we may need a cruise/sausage sizzle/picnic at a park location. Nice that we all drive somewhere but would be nice to have a bit of social time somewhere we can lounge around. May try to organize it but pretty busy time between now and end of the year.
  25. Too bad it wasn't a wireless camera or I might have had footage of your underbelly... er.. we'll not meaning to be rude or anything. I went back on the putty and kind of slowed down around the area it might have fallen off but no joy. I'm glad it was just a cheap reversing camera CCD and $5 mount. No bit loss for some great footage. I've got about 30 gigs of video from the day Started editing it yesterday afternoon but there is so much there to get through. Should have something to show by the end of the week. stay tuned...
