  1. I would get the jack and stand combo from sca and teh 69 piece sidchrome kit from auto one. You will find you might not use the 1/4 inch stuff unless you caught into a tight spot. I mostly use 3/8 and 1/2 when doing mechanical work. 1/4 doesnt come out at all unless its for hose clamps. When i first started my mechanics i had a kinchrome spanner set, kinchrome 1/2 an 3/8 set and a $30 stanley screwdriver kit and a couple of sets of trojan pliers from bunnings. You don't need really fancy tools to start off
  2. It should do, pull the backs off both diffs and measure the diff centre to make 100% sure they are they same. The diff in my 32 is out of my old S13, bolted straight in just had to change teh half shafts. Both were non-abs
  3. I keep getting this too, mainly in the WA section when posting in the "where do you get your tools" thread.
  4. I don't know about perth, but Auto One/supercheap down here are having a sale on. Their jack stands, little jacks and tools are all really cheap atm. Have you got any catalogues in circulation that you can look through?
  5. S13 diffs bolt straight in, they either come with 3x2 or 5x1 half shaft bolt configuration, these can be just swapped over to suit your car
  6. Do you know when it was serviced last? How many kms on it? I would take it back if its smoking like that, but then again they might turn around and say you paid for it in that condition
  7. The kkinchrome range comes with a lifetime waranty also. Their new range looks quite good. Stanley tools are the cheaper version of Sidchrome i think, which are also ok. I have a set of CGL spanners, they have held up for a few years. They arent the strongest out though, i have a combination spanner i put a tad too much weight on and kinked it a couple of years ago. The really cheap spanners you get from bunnings/auto shops i would steer clear of. I use those spanners for the jobs that require a tool to be grinded down to be used, other than that they are a waste of time and money
  8. Bunnings sell kinchrome/sidchrome and cheap tools, when i was an apprentice i started out with the basic kinchrome stuff and i still have a lot of it. I would start there or even repco/CGL (coventrys tools). One thing to remember, when buying tools it to make sure they are comfortable in your hand. Grab a spanner and grip it tight, hit it into your hand a few times, is it comfortable or does it make your hand hurt when you grip it? Do the same with a socket set. Because you are just starting off with tools i wouldnt reccomend snap-on. Yes they are really great quality, but you may not be able to afford the gear.
  9. Can you cicle what you are talking about?
  10. I'm pretty sure work sends their oil samples to the CAT place in midland also. Will check with the mechanic next fri for you
  11. I also ran an oil cooler in line with mine after i pulled the hicas out, there was another trader selling lockbars to but i havent seen him around for ages. Once you pull the hicas out use the steel lines as "upgraded" fuel lines, they are 1/2in i'm pretty sure
  12. Beautiful spacers, i made some exactly like that. Pulled them off last month after 5yrs use, still like new
  13. Just out of interest, did you get it from a distributor in Australia?
  14. Ford also don't reccomend to service their automatics, people that follow that find the units failing early. IMO the oil is cheap enough, so it doesnt hurt to change it sooner than reccomended
  15. It might possibly be the stalk or the motor itself. Do you have access to spares?
  16. f**k leaving oil in there for that long. It's cheap enough (the oil) compared to the price of a gearbox. I go on every 20,000km for gearbox and diff oils for daily drivers. Track cars get done every 5,000km just to make sure they are ok
  17. Don't you have to be a trade member to get stuff off them Ash?
  18. Come get me and i'll tell you what its like I think i have a video of one i built after it had bedded in and it was getting quieter. Will try and dig it up when i get home tonight
  19. How hard would the fittings be to fit Phil?
  20. Birds, its fairly normal for it too clunk that harsh at first. It might take a little while longer for it to calm down, seeing as it is a new diff. If the backlash was wrong the unit wouldn't last that long. You didn't use 80/90 when you changed the oil did you?
  21. I have a 2way in my 32, have had in there for 6yrs i love it. Was very clunky at first, first oil change used ls140 and friction modifier. Hardly clunked after that. What oil did you use?
  22. The trans tunnel is alot smaller compared to a 33, you may have to massage the tunnel to make it fit. Size wise it is approx 1.5 times bigger than the SR unit from memory
  23. Will they go ok with some track work?
