Apexi Power Intake For R33 Gtr
nizmo_freek replied to nizmo_freek's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Hmmm, have just been told by a guy over on gtr.co.uk that apparently the hks filter kits comes with its own rubber intake pipe for the 1st turbo, hence why it is too short and isnt fitting my apexi pods. Looks like im on the hunt for a new intake pipe. -

Turn what the other way around exactly? -
Have just received my Apexi Power intake kit for my r33 gtr this morning, went to fit it tonight and have had nothing but trouble so far, yes i am following the instructions, yes i have all the brackets in their correct places. The problem i am having is with the intake pipe for the 1st turbo, if i bolt everything up losely i can not get the end of the afm into the intake pipe for the 1st turbo, i have tried putting the afm into the intake pipe 1st then trying to connect up all the brackets but nothing lines up that way at all, the only way i can get all the brackets to line up is bolt everything on 1st, but then i have the problem of the afm not being able to reach the intake pipe. Which makes me think maybe i am missing part of the intake pipe for the front turbo, hence the pipe not being long enough causing the afm not being able to connect to the intake. Ive tried everything to get this on but nothing works, so something has to be missing right? Do i even have the standard intake pipe on my car? By the way the car was using hks filter kit when i bought it. Heres some pics, in all the pics all the brackets are lining up and bolted up correctly but the afm for the 1st turbo isnt even sitting inside the intake pipe, am i missing part of the intake pipe?

Yes there is a way to remove it and plug up the hole with a bung, you can buy a Moonface Racing rear wiper hole bung from www.rhdjapan.com, thats what im using on my gtr at the moment, just remove the wiper motor etc and put the moonface bung in its place, looks alot cleaner than having a rear wiper.

Cheers I actually sold the work wheels of the gts25t a couple of weeks ago, they wouldnt have looked very good on the gtr because of their sizes and offsets anyway, not to mention they had different sized tyres front and back so would mess with the ATTESA. I agree with the lowering part, it does sit a little bit high, but overall i am actually very impressed with the stock suspension so might just go with some Tein springs and also some wheel spacers, should make it look a bit nicer!

R33 Gtr Ecu, Chipped By Garage Saurus
nizmo_freek replied to nizmo_freek's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thanks for the advice, the only people that remap factory ecu's are a long long drive away from me so i dont think i will be doing that, might just possibly take it for a dyno run and see what the a/f ratios are at the moment, im kinda leaning towards buying a stock ecu at the moment just to be 100% sure its running safe, do you think this would be a worthwhile idea? or would i be wasting me time. However the car does go very very well how it is at the moment, better than i expected it to go even thought its only on 0.5bar, im a bit hesitant to turn the boost up at all with this ecu though, just to be on the safe side i think i will leave the boost were it is now untill or if i decide to get a stock ecu. R33 Gtr Gearstick
nizmo_freek replied to nizmo_freek's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
So yours has the alloy clamp aswell? have just been told by someone else that knows there stuff that the alloy clamp isnt a stock part. -
My newly aquired 97 series 3 R33 GTR, only picked it up on fri, completly different car to the gts25t!

As far as i know nismo afms are just z32 sensors inside an original rb26 afm housing from what ive read, hence why they are a straight bolt/plugg in replacement, they are able to read more airflow due to the higher resolution, not because of the size of the afm.

R33 Gtr Ecu, Chipped By Garage Saurus
nizmo_freek replied to nizmo_freek's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Thats exactly what i was thinking, if its been fine for 9years it should be ok, i just wont be turning the boost up at all with this ecu, its currently running 0.5bar from what my greddy gauge is telling me, i may decided to buy a stock ecu in the future just to be on the safe side, at least then i could run a little more boost and not have to worry about it not being "safe". Anyone have any ideas why both 02 sensors are disconnected? -
Hey guys Picked up my r33 gtr a couple of days ago and have discovered that the ecu looks like it has been chipped by garage saurus in Japan, does anyone know exactly what they change when saurus chip their ecu's?, i have also noticed that both 02 sensors have been disconnected, would there be any reason for this? I still seem to get decent fuel economy, got 200kms out of half a tank ofr 98, and i wasnt driving it easy either for some of the time, so that seems pretty decent to me. I was a bit worried when i 1st saw the garage saurus sitcker on the ecu as i dont have a clue what could have been changed on it and if its safe or not, but the old owner had the car for 9years and never had a problem with it, also seems to be running rather rich as the bumper gets carbon stained. Any help would be great. Cheers Jason

Hi Just picked up my r33 gtr a couple of days ago, got it home and gave it a good inspection, only thing i could find wrong with it was the gearbox looked to have a leak somewhere. I thought it could possibly be the top boot that seals the gearstick to the gearbox, and sure enough i was right, when i was removing the boots i found to little half round peices of alloy and 2 tiny allan key bolts just sitting inside one of the boots floating around not attached to anything. Got the last boot off and sure enought there is transfer case fluid everywhere, and there was no clamp at all holding the top of the boot to the gearstick. In my 25t the top of the boot is normally just cable tied onto the end on the gearstick and that seems to work fine. So i was thinking that the alloy "clamp" that i found floating around in on of the boots might be to clamp the top of the bot to the gearstick, seems weird that they dont just use a cable tie but im thinking maybe they use this clamp because the transfer case fluid is more pressurised and can escape from the top of the boot , unlike in my 25t. So i just wanted to make sure if this is a standard nissan part, is has it been added aftermarket for some reason? and also does the gearstick look standard as it feels completly different to the shifts in my 25t. Car is a 97 series 3 r33 gtr Cheers Jason Here is what im talking about
