I've been looking for one myself called just about everywhere I could think of in Canberra and no one had springs that small. Just bought a new IACV off here for $35. You might also want to have a look at the pin, half the reason my spring keeps stretching is because the pin pops out and that plate turns right around.

Ok thanks, are you sure that AFM voltage is correct though? mine idles at 1.1-12 and reads 4.1v constantly at full load.

Hey, I just got a consult cable and just wondering if people know of the standard voltages and %'s for all the sensors on an RB20DET. I understand the TPS voltages are meant to be 0.45 close and up to 4.5 WOT. What I'm interested in is what readings should be for the AFM, O2 sensor and for the AAC Valve. I don't even understand what the AAC Valve % means. Is the AFM meant to start at just over 0v then rise to 5v? Thanks for the help, Adrian

Very similar problems I had when I bought my car. For the stalling problem check that your BOV hasn't been blocked off or venting straight to the atmosphere. To check if it is blocked off just undo the two bolts connecting it to the crossover pipe, if it is blocked there will be a piece of metal blocking the hole. If it isn't this listen for any misfires as you may be dropping a cylinder. Your high idle is probably due to 3 things. First thing to check is TPS, it is connected to the throttle body facing towards the front of the car, if you loosen it a bit and fiddle with it the revs should go up and down depending on the position after a few seconds. The second is the AAC valve, it is also connected to the intake manifold facing towards the drivers side, it has an idle adjust screw. Try adjusting this after unplugging the AAC, if this doesn't help clean the AAC valve. There is a great tutorial for doing this in the tutorials section if you just search, it is for R33's but it is exactly the same process for an R32. If this doesn't help it is probably the 3rd(and sounds most likely if revs are the same from a minute or so after starting to fully warm). The IAC or cold idle regulator sits just under the throttle body snug under the intake manifold. The IAC consists of a plate held in by a tiny pin holding it down and a small spring holding it in place. As the car warms up a signal is sent to pull on this plate and close the valve(less air = lower idle). I have a constant issue where the pin comes loose, the spring pulls more than it should so the valve is constantly open. It is quite annoying to pull out. It has two bolts quite deep below the manifold which must be undone. The hose on the top of it connects to a T-Piece, and another hose underneath it connects to the intake manifold, there is also a plug just behind the hose connecting to the manifold. I usually don't pull it out completely but due to the tiny size of parts inside I would. After that it is as simple as unscrewing the screws(make sure you don't round them off!) and pulling it apart, make sure it is sitting the right way up. Here you can push the plate in properly with the pin and re set the spring. Hopefully yours isn't like mine and it doesn't keep happening. If you still have problems I'd start looking at things like replacing the AFM. Hope this helps! Adrian

Where Can There Be A Leak In Bov System?
Kwyjibo replied to Kwyjibo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Yeh I've put the piece of metal(it probably was a can of some sort) back in a few times and each time it fixes the problem. Another BOV didn't fix the problem. I'll check the pressure feed but it looks fine to me. Any idea how to check if my cat is working? -
Where Can There Be A Leak In Bov System?
Kwyjibo replied to Kwyjibo's topic in Engines & Forced Induction
Well I figured that but I also remembered the BOV I borrowed had a screw in the bottom of it(which I understand effectively blocks off that leak). Either way it should still be running at least standard RB20 boost, not 8. Yeh it is plumbed back into just after the AFM. -
I have a basically stock R32 gtst, only real modification is 3" turbo back exhaust. It currently runs at a bit over 11psi. The back of the car gets really dirty after about a week of driving, I had a friend drive behind me and the only smoke he could see was a puff of black smoke whenever I backed off. My car has also been backfiring sometimes when I back off. Anyway I found out that the standard BOV had been blocked off at the crossover pipe, which is the most likely cause of this(coils and plugs are basically new, no misfires). The problem is whenever I remove the piece of metal blocking the BOV the most boost my car will run is 9 and that is only for a split second and it drops off to 8. I have tried it with another BOV that was working fine on another car and the same thing is happening. Where would there be a leak? The only place I can think of is BOV > intake piping(after AFM), but I wouldn't have thought this area would hold boost anyway since it goes right out to the filter. Could it be the vacuum hose leaking that leaves the BOV open or something?? Thanks for any help. Adrian

I'm currently studying IT at UC, still working payroll though, too lazy to actually try find an IT job now.

PM sent. Yeh yeh Eiji you know I still love the 31's, I miss the torque of the RB30.

Does anyone have a stock BOV that I could borrow for a few hours(r32 gtst)? Just need to see if mine is leaking or not, found out previous owner had a metal plate covering it. Now its boosting about 1 psi lower but I can't see any problem with the piping. Cheers, Adrian

Its kind of the same deal with Football(Soccer). Everywhere in the world except North America its huge and the players are very well respected, yet over here they are kind of laughed at. Seems to be changing a bit here but people will always respect Warne, Judd, or Tuquiri(sp?) more than Kewell, Viduka and Timmy even though they have probably made the biggest impact of any Aussie sportsman in the world. Just like Australia sees hooliganism in soccer, they see the hoons in drifting, the media takes these massively out of proportion. It ruins both sports and there is not much you can do about it except just enjoy it as much as possible and drag as many people as you can along to events. Just like you say there are too many egos, moneymakes and ignorants, it was exactly the same with the NSL, sure there was a lot of passion but there were no true business people who knew how to make a profit and appeal to the mainstream. Once drifting gets administration like this it will have the ability to become more popular.

Hi, I have a 32 gtst with just 3" exhaust from turbo. Found out today that the previous owner had put a piece of metal over the plate between BOV and intake, effectively making it no BOV. I removed this and gasketed it up(at least I think its fine) because it was stalling occasionally when slowing down for lights. Previously on full boost it would peak for a second at just over 0.7bar, now it only peaks at dead on 0.7. I know that the 32 standard boost is only 10 psi but should it be slightly higher due to the exhaust? Should I try regasketing the BOV in case there is a slight leak?

When your done with it can I borrow it too.

I just bought a R32 gts-t for $8500, basically all it needs is a new diff coz one of the bearings is extremely loud, interior is perfect(apparently done 140,000kms) except one cut in passenger door, only a few minor dents in paint. The guys supplied me with RWC and a compression test, the compression was fairly low but I was expecting to spend $12500 for something like this so I have plenty for a new engine, also when on boost its starting to smell oily so I think I may need a new turbo(only $150). It even came with whiteline strut braces front and rear, 3" turbo back exhaust, and boost controller. I was looking for a car for months though so don't except one to be available straight away.

Hi, HCR32021375 Thanks heaps, Adrian

Did this and air regulator maintenance as in the other DIY thread. My idle is no longer 1100rpm!
-
This was an absolute pain in the ass to do, had to open up the air reg while inside the car coz the harness would just not come out. But I am so happy after checking AFM, throttle body, TPS, cleaning AAC this finally semi-fixed my idle. It has however mostly fixed my idle, I'd like to know whether inside of it the opening is meant to be over the hole at all. In the picture posted it looks like there is still a slight gap(about 1mm), and that is the same with mine, however I would have thought it should be fully closed. The idle has dropped down now(but now its almost stalling coz it drops well under 500 after reving then flicks back up), but I wanna know whether i will need to buy another air regulator to adjust it all properly. btw I couldn't find a spring to buy that was small enough anyway. Cheers, Adrian

Will I Need To Go Through Dickson
Kwyjibo replied to Kwyjibo's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Thanks, Yeh he is getting it done somewhere(not at Dickson) and they know it is an import so I guess its no big deal. Only issues I can see is the exhaust is 3" and may be slightly too loud, and it has a boost controller but that will be easy enough to take out. -
Will I Need To Go Through Dickson
Kwyjibo replied to Kwyjibo's topic in Australian Capital Territory
Thanks for the quick answers guys. Hope the inspections go ok! -
Hi, I'm most likely buying an ACT registered R32 gtst. The guy is getting an inspection for RWC for me however I am sure the front tyres won't pass so I will have to take it through again. I have searched on here but have not found a definitive answer whether I will have to take it to Dickson to get it transferred to my name. On the Rego ACT website it says all imported cars have to go through Dickson, however if its already been through Dickson to get ACT rego I don't see why they would need to go through it again. There seems to be a lot of people on here saying different things. Does anyone have the definitive answer for this? Cheers, Adrian

Hey I'm guessing this is Daniel? Its Adrian by the way. The laser is not a bad car at all and seems to go alright for a Laser, doesn't soung too droney either. Don't know if you have but you might wanna post this in the For Sale section might get a bit more attention

I was behind that white Stage-A all the way from Gunghalin to Evatt today. I was in the blue R31.
-
Heh sorry yeh Discount Tyres I mean't! Looks very nice by the way.
-
I saw a white Stage A at Quickfit today, had a SAU sticker and I think I saw them when a few of you guys met at that meet in Woden awhile back.

Yeh well I never really expected much since i'm not a fan of many Syndicate cars(the group who organised it). It was ok but I think I had more fun driving there.
