Went by a buddy who opened the box and checked it out for me. He had a similar problem, which as you mentioned was due to dry joints in the soldering. There weren't any such problems with the circuit board in my box. I even got another buddy to lend me the amplifier box from his S13 and I had the same problem. The window would go down, but not come back up. We even connected the exposed board to the door and watched the solenoids open and close perfectly each time the switch was operated.

Ok guys n gals I am thoroughly stuck right about now. Here is an outline of the things that I have done so far: 1. Checked wiring for breaks, arcing wires and stripped wires. 2. Checked power window motor (x2) 3. Checked master control switch (x2) 4. Check power window amp (x2) 5. Greased the runners for the window After doing all of that my problem still exists. I really don't know what could be going on. Have checked the window assembly gearing to make sure it is meshing with the motor gear properly. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I pulled down the entire driver side door, checked that there were no broken or stripped wires. I finally came to the conclusion that the assembly for the auto p/w is faulty. Haven't been able to test it yet however I have removed it from the car and asked a buddy to borrow his to see if the problem still exists. Have attached photos of the nasty device. Completely sealed so I can't open it to see if anything has burnt out on the inside

Yup. It is the auto up/down feature that I experience the problem with. The whirring noise I am referring to is the sound of the motor seemingly trying to turn. Did some more research last night and I believe the problem is isolated to either wiring or a control relay(if any) for the window. Retested both master control switches and window motors and the same thing is happening for both. Today I will try and see if I can trace anything.

I need some help with a problem I am experiencing with my 4-door Skyline. The problem is with the driver side power window. A while ago when I rolled the window down I would hear a whirring sound after the window was completed wound down. Thought that it might be the power window motor going bad and after the window not rolling up on a few occasions, I went and bought a new motor and had that installed. Now the same problem exists with the new motor. You can wind the window down however the motor doesn't disengage and you hear a whirring sound even though it has reached the bottom on the door. When I try winding the window back up, it moves up for a few inches and then stops. Does wind up completely and there is still the annoying whirring sound. You have to tap the control switch to actually stop it from whirring and probably burning the motor out. I changed the master control switch as I had a spare one and the problem still exists. Through it might have been a problem with the tracks for the window not being lubricated enough. Bought some of that super slick silicone lubricant and gave the tracks a liberal blast. No luck with either of the two. I was wondering if there is a relay that controls the window and for some reason the motor is not getting enough current to wind the window up. It probably works going down as it is acting with gravity and takes some of the load off of the motor. I tried looking for a power window schematic online but I haven't found anything yet. Is there anyone who can assist me with this problem? A mate of mine had a similar problem and a new motor fixed his problem. Sigh, mine had to be more complex. All help appreciated.

Could anyone give me a listing of the engines which come in the Cefiro? To be a bit more specific I am interested in the engine model (e.g rb20) and the capacity.

Hey thanks. Have that page bookmarked now

errrm yes i tried looking... *sticks out tongue*lol, i wouldn't have asked for assistance otherwise. kept finding info for other pinouts. some nice person sent me an excel file with the pinout info. so many thanks for your help wit that problem. onto question 2. any suggestions. all smart mouth tossers stay at the door. LOL

This post consists of two questions: 1. Does anyone know the pinouts for the ca18i ecu, or have any documents or links that I can direct me to the information I am looking for? 2. The R32 Skyline with the 4 cyclinder engine is a VERY RARE model and the ecu is even RARER. I know the first suggestion some people will make is a) sell the car and buy something better or B) perform an engine swap. Unfortunately neither is possible at the moment - not many skylines where I live and they are not for sale, don't have the cash to perform the engine swap at this moment. I was thinking about a piggy back performance along with some minor mods to get some improved performance out of the ca18i monsta (Lol, who am I kidding - driving an underpowered skyline). I was wondering what would be your suggestions for a piggyback system and your thoughts on the idea. All theories and criticisms welcome. Thanks for your help guys....by the way the ecu number is 06, 5spd manual tranny

Clutch/Gearbox Problem
alienracer replied to alienracer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Thanks for the info guys. I will continue doing the N to reverse shift process. In the meantime I will source a clutch assembly and look for a replacement box. Does anyone know where you can get rebuild kits for skyline gearboxes, particularly the FS5W71C gearbox? -
I get problem sometimes when I have to select reverse. When I try putting the gearshift into reverse the stick sometime refuses to go in and if you try forcing it you hear a grating noise. To get around the problem have to put the car in neutral, try selecting one of the other gears and then shift into reverse. The problem is intermittent and is becoming a worry. I was wondering if the gearbox might have a problem with the reverse gear or if the clutch pressure plate might need adjusting or realigning.

R32 GXi Clutch Kit

Thanks for your opinion. Until I can get the cash and sell this car I still need something to drive around, . Back on topic, does anyone know how many teeth are on the clutch disc shaft? -
R32 GXi Clutch Kit
alienracer replied to alienracer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Ok I did some research and found out that the S13 has the same gearbox as the GXI R32 skyline. The gearbox is the one from the GTS model (FS5W71C). I have no experience with purchasing a clutch kit. I know I do need the full kit (pressure plate, release bearing, and clutch disc) cause my clutch is slipping like a "you know what". The car is RWD, does this mean I have to get a special clutch ? The service manual calls for a 225mm clutch disc, but I am not sure about the teeth on the shaft and the clutch disc. Was checking ACT website and came across a clutch which I thought might work. Anyone shed some light on my predicament. ACT Clutch -
Correct. Skylines are very RARE cars in Barbados. You can count them on your fingers and toes. I do have a manual transmission. YEAH for me. It would be easier to get the head from the ca18det and the necessary intake manifold, fuel rail, etc. Please remember the ca18i is not a carb, that was a mistake on my part. It is a throttle body fuel injected gas guzzler . I got the service manual for the s13 silvia and realise that the s13 carry the same engine and gearbox as the gxi r32. That gives me something to work with. The gearbox is the gts gearbox (FS5W71C).

Thanks alot for the pinouts funkymonkey. Muchly appreciated. So what about my question? "Can the ca18det head work on the ca18i block?" That is my million dollar question.

Ladies and Gentlemen, back by popular demand. I have struck GOLD. Thanks to some insite from Straight Six, I went and banged my head under the dashboard, got a huge egg to show for my efforts. All the same I struk gold. Looming in the shadows of the passenger kick guard was my shiny NISSAN ECU. YES, you read correct, the ca18i has an ECU. Throttle body, fuel injected beast it is. Now more questions. Does anyone know if the ca18det or sr20det head would work on this engine? Since is has such a nice compression ratio of 8.8:1 , it is possible to run high boost application on engine. I am so happy right now, running around in my boxers. My neighbours are going to call the coppers for me. But I don' care. Give me blood Igor, it's ALIVE.

I am not sure about your road regulations. What I plan to do with my R32 is to install full 3" piping from exhaust manifold into a performance barrel with 3" inlet and 4.5" outlet. No CAT, and it will be a straight flow for the exhaust gases. Lots of noise. If possible you might want to shorten the exhaust route. Instead of the full run, divert the piping somewhere behind the front wheels. Seen some pics online with the exhaust on some drag skylines done like that. Should make tons of noise.
-
It has the engine bay of the R32 skylines. Only thing lacking is the size of the engine. I can put my hand and touch the ground and still have space to push my head next to my hand. I also think you are right about the throttle body. Did some research and Nissan uses a NISSAN Ei electronic gasoline injection system. Which I guess is a long phrase for throttle body. ------------------------------------- I should be able to get parts from Bamboo. Plan to take a trip soon to Trinidad and do some scouting. Sent sister down to get clutch and some other parts. The men seem intimidated by a woman, didn't want to sell her the parts. So time for me to go shopping. Thanks for the info guys. Will keep you updated with the project. In the meanwhile, is there nothing that can be done with the ca18i. Other than propping up my bed?

I was hoping there would have been something possible for this engine. Oh well, engine swap in the future. Of the 2.0L engines (rb20det, sr20det) which would be the best upgrade? Considering economics (maintenance, parts availability), structural changes, and installation time.
-
Specs: Engine model: ca18i Displacement: 1800cc Estimated output: 91hp (very depressing, almost suicidal for a skyline owner) Additional: Twin spark technology, carb I was wondering if anyone has done any serious modification on these engines (or than take it out and get a bigger engine ). I would like to do some work on my engine and see what kind of performance I could get out of it. By the way does anyone know why Nissan used two spark plugs per cylinder and what benefit this would have on the performance of the engine? Attached is a pic of the engine bay when I first got the car.

R32 GXi Clutch Kit
alienracer replied to alienracer's topic in Suspension, braking, tyres and drivetrain
Yup there is a heap of space in the engine bay. That is the motivation to upgrade the motor when the cash makes itself available. It's not a performance engine but it's alot of fun if you are into messing around in a car park. The chassis plate has the code for the GTS 5 spd gearbox on it. So I guess the GTST clutch should work without any problems. I was talking to a guy who owns an R32, with much better engine, and he was telling me that any clutch assembly should fit the R32. Just wondering how true this statement is, especially when it comes to my baby with her lil 1800cc knocker. Have to ask a silly question. Does anyone know the size of the pressure plate and clutch disc, dimensions that is? -
Just joined your GREAT!! website. Very imfortative and loads of fun. Here is my first post. I have a R32 GXi Sedan and I am looking for a clutch kit. The engine is the ca18i, 1800cc, n/a. I was wondering if anyone could help me with any brand clutch kits that would work with this setup, and if you could suggest any race clutches. Heard that race clutches are better suited for wear and tear, and much tolerable than the OEM clutch kit. Your help is appreciated
