  1. Hey Mayuri, a lot of the reports i have seen have steered me towards looking at purchasing 32 bit rather than 64 bit because compatability issues are a problem with software etc. Have you had any problems at all? 64bit would be good, even though i am running the dual e8400 i still have 4gb ram so i thought the advantages of running 4gb at full capacity in 64 bit would be good, but not for the sake of being able to use any previous software.
  2. yup iinet or westnet seem to be the go over here in WA. My pleasure in letting you know that info, thats what these forums are for. I would hate for you to go through the same frustrations as what i and thousands others have had to!
  3. NO f*kN WAY, STAY AWAY FROM DODO!!! (sorry about the caps but it deserves it) GOOGLE 'whirlpool forums dodo complaints' Is hould have done that before i had tried to go broadband with them. I to was one of the THOUSANDS that get screwed over by them! Was until i gave them an industry ombudsman case numbers till they gave me my money back and 3 - 4 months free on dial up as a way to say sorry. Long story short was on dial up, went to go broadband, they tested my lines and said all was ok so i agreed, they took money out of my account for contract and modem. Modem arrived then they told me i could not use it as it wont work on my line, and to add salt in my wound took money out of my account. Called them up to complain, got transferred to India, told them to cancel my account and they said they could not until i returned modem, i said OK where to? He said he does not know, then he transferred me to what sounded to be an American helpdesk where they also did not know. They would not transfer me through to anyone in Australia when requested. It felt like a nightmare, being caught in a contract that i cant get out of and no one good help! Called up obudsman where they agreed to give me case number. finally after 4 different phone calls got put through to a helpdesk in Australia (many requests for this came from me but they always said we can put you up to tier 2 dispute resolution - which is still not based on OZ and could not help :-( ) Please learn from mine and others mistakes dont use em, they are so cheap becuase they shape peer to peer networking and all support is based in sweatshops similar to Nike ones around the world :-)
  4. Ok yeah that makes sense, my accountant did say somethign at my least financial year return about 3 years worth of depreciation that i could claim on this pc i am using. Great so that is also the same for purchases in another country?? strange but GREAT! strange because it seems that our government will be re imbursing me for money that ihave spent and given taxes to over seas. I dont have my own business however a lot of my work is completed at home during and after work which is why my accountant said i can claim it. "Yes Mr Accountant, my new ATI radeon 5870 is purely for work purposes alongside the 26inch monitor and G19 keyboard helps me type work quicker and i can see it much better and clearer" eheheheeh!! I manage three gyms, drive skylines used to manage night clubs.... but i am still the BIGGEST NERD at heart :-) getting excited about claiming hardware on tax and all. GTAIV has really slowed down since i got the 26inch monitor and its still using the 9800GTX, cant wait till i head off to the US.
  5. Cheers again Nismoid, Hmmm can i still claim it under tax if it is purchased in the US? if so i might also have to grab me an i7 whilst I am there. Which means OF COURSE i wouldhave to ask you what would be a highly recommended mboard to go with the i7 for gaming. Asus rampage 2 has some good reviews for Oc'ing. Dam i hope i can claim it for tax (for work purposes of course:-) ) Oh so tempting, its meant to be for my honeymoon but i can tell (if i can claim it on tax) then this will turn into a PC shopping spree. So anyone used eye finity yet that can also help me witht he game play viewing question?
  6. Hey all, Well the 5 series from ati have been out for a few months now and with the shortage the 5800 series has gone up immensly! To give you an example, went to PLE computers (WA) on Monday to buy a killer mouse pad and saw the 5850 for $399 was just about to buy it but i am off to America for my honeymoon in Feb so thought would wait till then. Long story short couldnt wait any longer went back to PLE and ALL pc stores have had a massive price increase and now it is $500. (25 percent jump in 3 days!) So i wanted some retail therapy and bought a 26 inch asus which i think is beautiful (2ms refresh rate and 2MP camera) my 22 inch i will either sell.... OR..... buy another with the gfx card (WHEN THEY FKN DROP THE PRICE!) and try eye finity!! has any one got this setup as i would like to know does it make "game play" worse, what i mean is, i am sure it makes things look and feel more realistic BUT is it harder to shoot things. For example on GTA IV if i saw a guy on the LHS screen and wanted to shoot him i would have to drag my rotation across a full screen to do so.... make sense? in which case i think actualy game play could be far harder. Let me know if anyone is using it and post some imgaes and let me know what game play is like! Cheers gang!
  7. havent played it yet, small things amuse small minds i bought it amusing myself that before i play it i have to save up and get the 5850 to realy spoil myself with. It wil be my own little xmas present for mysef. Unless as mentioned i can find a nice cheap 4890 or 275! A lot of the reviews though are saying that the 4890s are big and loud. I have a centurion 5 case so i shooould be able to fit it in.
  8. geez $200 for a gfx water block! better be good. You by any chance going for an OC record or sumfin? Or you want to view "frogger" in the best resolution you possibly can!
  9. Playing low - med settings on GTA IV with my 9800 GTX when there is so much more detail that could be had is what is tempting me :-) Just bought Borderlands and would love to see the gfx capability of that game in all of its maxed out glory which i just dont the the 9800 GTX can do anymore, it has been an awesome card with last years games, but the brand new ones are requiring just that little bit of extra grunt.
  10. I tell you what though, I would loooove to have my pc setup like that inside of the pc on the front page of www.tilatech.com Very nice looking setup with the red tubing/fluid.
  11. fair call, I am looking at also getting a bigger monitor and always had concerns with buying anything that requires a plug from the US. Is it just a US power point adaptor that is required? or does anything else have to be made. reason i ask is i race RC cars at a state level and a lot of the elctronics we cant get from US due to incorrect frequencies etc so i also carry that aspect on from ordering anything from the US Newegg prices are good but as you mentioned you cant get them to ship to Oz is that right?
  12. A US website that one of the guy from work here uses all the time is www.provantage.com Some prices are comparable with Newegg. I dont entirely agree though with the posts mentioned before about us being ripped off and HEAPS cheaper in the US. Honestly, please prove me wrong as I wanted to use provantage to get a gfx card but by the time courier costs and the dollar difference is added it is only a $30 saving when i was looking at a 4890. Plus i was always told with electronics if it is not a huge price difference buy local as it is much easier to organise returns etc. The further away the harder it gets. Again if i am wrong please let me know as I would love to find some good cheap gfx cards :-)
  13. likewise, looking at going dx11 as well, but thought if i could get a cheap enough dx10 with the prices dropping like flies i would pick one up. Currently ave a 9800GTX but thought the 4890 would be a nice step up.
  14. Details Unreel? make model price? :-)
  15. Cheers Brat, Yeah think i might need to sign up, with the new ati dx11 cards out could be some very good prices on the old 4890's coming through.
  16. Is this an online game or can it be played as a normal single player campaign against the PC. Yes i still i have dialup, went to go broadband with dodo and they screwed me over should have read the whirlpool forums before going with them, wasnt until i mentioned the ITO that they decided to escalate and give me my money back! but thats another story.. anyways as i do have dialup til at least Feb does this require the net or is a normal campaign ok? cheers!
  17. say $200 only becuase on new egg with our increasing $$ the US cards aregetting extremely cheap. Is that reasonable do you think? Will have a quick look at that forum aswell. Cheers mate for your quick response and help!!
  18. Hi all, Just looking on here and can see a few bits and pieces of hardware for sale but nothing major. is there a Skylines Australia forum in the world ofgaming ? :-) Have checked whirlpool forums and Oz Oc's but nothing really sticks out. We could also then add the foum onto the good deals we have as a sticky at the top of this section. So if you know of a pc related forum with some good 2nd hand hardware please let me know :-) 2nd hand and cheap GTX275 or GTX285 or a nice 4870x2 would be nice :-)
  19. Sweet, will kep the 8400 OC'd at 3.3 ghz for a bit longer then until some more high end games utilise it. Not really much of a Supreme Commander fan to be honest so no big loss. makes me wonder then why anyone with gaming in mind would even touch the i7?!
  20. So would we all still go the e8400 dual core over a quad core is the question??? My e8400 still is fine with games, but does it matter yet if you have a quad or do we still feel that a dual will still cut the mustard for games?
  21. Well for PC titles I am hangin to play: Assasins Creed 2 Prototype 2 ( dont know if its coming out but i will make up a rumour :-) ) SC3 Diablo 3 The witcher 2 (same as prototype 2 here)
  22. I didnt think assasins creed was too short, but definately agree with the new COD 4 based on world war 2, i cant beleive how quickly that finished. i recently finished 'The witcher' REALLY enjoyed it, was an RPG with a great story line which went for some time. A lot of the first person shooters though are a bit short, however to be honest for me i am kind of happy, i want to finish them but they do become a bit repetitive other than different back grounds. I also just finished "Mass Effect' that did go for a while and i didnt even do the side quests. Mass effect is like an RPG but with a lot of FPS in it as well. It appears the RPG's are far longer that FPS's! and therefore better value in my opinion.
  23. Well to be honest i read a couple of reviews saying that it was meant to use less resources etc, but nothing really confirmed. Other than me saying....well to be honest... no difference at all, for example, writing this with no other apps open other than coretemp and rivatuner plus 2 ie pages it is idling at 48%ram usage. CPU usage though is next to nothing at 2% So no major resource differences, if anything more to be honest. Vista has kind of grown on me, or is it jsut that i have put up with it for so long that anything slightly new i get over excited about? Anyway to answer your question, wait for Windows 7. much better reviews on it so far, plus in the long run you would prob have to upgrade to it later anyway.
  24. HI All, Well my PC just did its auto update to Vista Service Pck 2 on Thursday night. Now have some nice little add ons like bluetooth capability, blue ray burner and snipping tool from what i can see. The snipping tool is very cool, its pretty much a cut and past device but i can cut anything on the screen and past it anywhere, kinda like my own pair of scissors on the PC. I know it has been done somewhere before, but there have been times when i have done a screen grab (alt+prt screen) when i have only wanted a small section of that actual screen grab, so this works great for it. Any one else using SP2? just wanting to see if any negatives or positivves with it. Other than the new apps it all seems pretty good. Also looked at some of the 3dmark scores and the forums and it appears that SP2 makes the scores ever so slightly less....
  25. Top marks should be given just for the expenditure on the quality hardware :-) let me know your score on the 3dMark 06 when you get a sec, just be a nice figure with the i7 :-) Oh and make sure you claim it all on educational tax! Nice work
