  1. Cheers PK, so the setings to change the TJmax, is that in coretemp prog or in BIOS? i am at work PC not home PC so cant tell. but what you are saying is that when my tjmax is reduced by 10 degrees i will also notice that my idle temp will also reduce (approx 10 degrees?) If so .... schweeet! But then how do i know which one is a realistic temp, that means if i wanted to i could set my TJmax to say 70 degrees, then my idle temp should in turn go down approx 35 degrees giving me an idle of about 15 degrees, which of coure would be wrong. Or is it more of an educated guess at 95 degrees until the actually release out the proper tjmax of the E8400.
  2. HAAHHA! so is the tj ok at 105? when looking at other threads a lot of people have theres at 95 or 100? is it adjustable? is 105 ok? Looking further at the temp side of things and man the E8400's are terrible with incorrect temperature level reading. Everyone is saying how good they are (clocking to 4ghz with some aftermarket air cooling) but a lot of the time idle is at 45 degrees stock, the up to 55degrees at idle on clocked units. Looks like this may be 'normal'??? I am going to take the case off however just to make sure all of the clips are down on the cooler etc
  3. Cheers PK. So at the moment to hopefully answer some of the questions. Did 5 dollops of thermal paste and it was good stuff.... MX2 which is meant to be the shiznit. 1 dollop in the middle then 1 dollop on each of the corners. Right now at and idle state clocked from 3 gig to 3.3 ghz Core temp ver 0.99.2 shows core 1 sitting at 46 degrees Core #2 sitting at 44 degrees My room temp is pretty cool here as well as it has been raining all day, probably 17 degrees. Tj.Max reading is 105 degrees..... i have no idea what tj max means though? OK now to CPU-Z it still is stepping up and down for the cpu levels but when it steps up it does step to 3.3 ghz so that is all ok. So when you use the word VCore do you mean Core voltage? If so CPuz shows core voltage when stepping down and resting at 1.120 (at 2.2ghz) but when it steps up i saw it briefly hit 1.184 and also a 1.136. yeah 1.184 is the highest i just saw it hit briefly. my temps havent gone above 60 degrees which is fine with me as i like them to max about about 60 which is what it is doing, but i wonder how it will go in summer when my room hits 30 - 35 degrees?
  4. Thanks again Mayuri, I think i owe you and Kralster a carton for all of ya techhie advice!!! Yeah i used to use RIva tuner on my old P4 with 128mB gfx card to OC it. Although I am sure i saw on the install disk an overclock utility like you mentioned. Will give it a crack!!
  5. OK so am changing it to PCIE to 100mhz, so just to check again, if i put that up to say 105 mhz does that mena i have now clocked the graphics card? What is an ok limit to make that PCIE number up to do you think? Have used google and i see some people running at 110 mhz. Also a guy clocked my combo to 4.0 after he changed the RAM settings, i have now intention of stressing my CPU that much, but if he did those numbers would his PCIE mhz be screwed? the thread made no mention of him changing his PCIE mhz thread here: http://forums.overclockers.com.au/showthre...4594&page=3 I just cant beleive this guy was clocking it to like 3.7 of the standard 380w PSU i think it was..... crazy!!!
  6. Cheers Kralster, yeah just checked my ESIT which is the stepping controller you were talking about, basically from what i could read on it is that the CPU's now only hit max when then need to then they just go to an idle cpu speed so to speak. Is it bad if it is continually stepping when loading? i guess it has always done it but up to 3gig before so it should be ok?? Strange one as i then checked mine and it was disabled, I am going to have a look in BIOS again in a sec. Also what is interesting, is that idle on these e8400's is mid 40' degree's. more around the 45 - 48 degree mark. THat seems quite high compared to my old Pent 4 i had before this one, but what is more interested is when these things are clocked there really isnt a huge temp increase like the old P4, so even though it idles hotter, when clocked it only goes up 2 - 3 degrees at idle. I am also using a program called OCCT which is stressing the RAM and CPU whilst i type this, sitting quite comfortably on 59 degrees and i have only seen it hit 60 once for a very brief second. Most of the tests in reviews shows these E8400's doing 3.6g but i dont like pushing things too far for longevity, plus ihave the aftermarket cooling so about 3.4g - 3.5g should be nice....its funny as the E8600 which is a 3.3 gig costs an extra $150 than my chip :-) Value for money the 8400's are Schweeeeet!
  7. Well finalllly did the mods i wanted!! Went the Corsair 620W moduler PSU RED Scorpion Xigmatek CPU cooler (Toms hardware choice of 2008) And the Zalman fan speed controller! I absolutely love this! adds some real LCD bling to the front of my case, looks really cool! So have now just completed a very gentle clock in the BIOS from the dual core standard of 3gig, up to a gentle 3.29g Strange thing though is the prog CPU-Z which monitors your cpu speed was showing 3.29 and has now just gone down to 2.19??? is that because it is resting? in my windows vista PC details however it constantly sits at 3.29..... quite strange really. Also can someone tell me if when i do raise it through BIOS does that also mean the Graphics card AND ram gets clocked up as well? if so there would then be no point in seperately clocking the gfx card? THanks all :-)
  8. Beautiful guys, will google state roads now and NRMA (dont know why he said they dont exist???) Also last question, does anyone know of an interstate importer? ie someone who organises full inspection, report, transport, transfer etc? would be a hell of a lot easier! :-) Thanks again NSW crew!
  9. Greetings from West Oz! I have been looking at the carsales website recently and have spotted a nice 4wd that I am looking at bringing across from NSW to WA. It is always quite hard to do this as you can imagine as I have know idea the location and if the guy is dodgey or not. The gentleman has been kind enough to send me extra pics etc, however I ould like to conduct one of those 100 point inspections and notified him that I would organise the NRMA to come out to complete the inspection, and obviously to make sure the car and address actualy exists etc! Well much to my suprise ( I must still be iving in the 80's ) he replied in letting me know that the NRMA no longer exists. So couple of questions. How do i find out over there if this is all ok? Who is now the NRMA or the most trusted company to provide reports ect and to at least in assisting me to make sure the details this gentleman is giving is all ok? Thanks all for your time, any help comes MUCH appreciated.
  10. Ahahaahah! Nice :-)
  11. Hmmm interesting thread, just going through buying a 4wd myself lately and am having fun haggling 'negotiating' whatever you like to call it. We dont need to start a "who has the biggest d*ck" complex as to who knows the most recent sales tactics and processes, but i do agree with a lot of what has been said, little tactics that the car yards will use to get your eyes of rust etc, open ended ie lead in questions to build familiarity with a prospect/lead all good tricks of the trade. One thing I am noticing however is that a lot of the car salesman are quite second rate at the sales processes, obviously what has happened is that the old hat salesman have now been promoted as sales/yard managers etc and when looking for a used car it seems the newbies are always in the used car sections. They to tend to make some silly mistakes being so new when it comes to negotiations. Generally I am finding that i can quite easily talk down 10% of asking price down to say 20% (this may differ state to state) keep in mind these people obviously MUST make money and need to beleive that you have the money to offer. What I have noticed is that Its all about who has 'ownership' of the deal ie who has the upperhand. Originally when trying to figure out a ballpark figure as to how much i could offer 5 different salesmen where saying "well you can put it in a formal offer and see if the sales manager will accept it' obviously they are wanting COMMITMENT therefore they have 'ownership' I train people in DISC personality profiling (dont know what it is.... google it! , basically a form of profiling personality to create the upperhand in sales) so i look for 'I' style (extraverts) salesmen (about 50% of em!) and revert to a normal Bali style haggle, something like this. "Before I sign anything I want to know if I am in the right ball park figure, I have $12,000 ready to go, here is my phone number, unfortunately I am looking for a car very soon so if at all could you speak to your sales manager by the end of the day/week otherwise I will have a new car"..... then leave. This works on 2 emotional senses: Creating Urgency - He has until the end of the day/week to accept your offer or he misses out on whatever commison he/she could have gotten Ownership - you now 'own' the deal as you are on top as he has to now bend to your rules as he has a call to urgency. the most important thing is..... your verbal (at this point non legally binding... well kinda ;-) ) offer MUST be realistic, dont expect a call of any sort if it is not realistic, also I am reading above of salesmen dropping their pants on the spot 6 - 7k, in my eyes this is nothing to be bragging about, i would rather be thinking ' what might be wrong with this car for the seller to be dropping his pants by that amount so quickly. Phew that was a lot to write but i hope i helped at least a little :-) Take it or leave it really :-)
  12. Hi mate welcome to the world of high end PC's besides the graphics card mine sounds somewhat similar to yours. If you want some answers to your questions check out my thread about 8 threads below this one its called "Just bought kick a$$ gaming computer what games should i get" well something like that.... heaps of great suggestions in there. Well you already have got one awesome one.... Crysis, great graphics! The other ones I have recently got my hands on is "World in Conflict", Call of Duty 4 (MUST HAVE IF YOU LIKE CRYSIS), company of heroes. heaps more in my thread but strongly recommend you now get Call of duty 4 if you liked crysis.
  13. yeah i have seen some nice corsair psu's on www.pccasegear.com.au Only thing I am worried about is becuase my pc is so new if i change around the PSU and something goes wrong netplus might turn around and say its the new PSU's fault. might have to pay them the extra $40 for installation of it even though its a piece of pi$$ that way they cant turn around to me and point the finger if somehting goes wrong, that is also why i still have not oc'd the pc yet always good to make sure everything runs well for a bit first of all :-) Any upgrade PSU's you would recommend from here? www.netplus.com.au they did have some corsairs but it looks like they had taken them off??? or i wonder if they would let me get PLE to install as they are also quite good.
  14. *ahem* yes Joel I am using the 480w with the 9800GTX, i used the online calculator here: http://www.extreme.outervision.com/index.jsp It shows my system should be runing at 440w. doesnt tell you though if that is 440 under heavy load, hmmmm do you think under heavly load the gfx would chew up an extra 40w?? yeah it is low though i do agree which is why i should really order a new psu quite soon before i start ocing. good news!! I just finished Crysis!! :-) Now I am starting company of heroes getting back into a strategy game again
  15. nice setup there Gus! Why did you go the AMD in the end and not the dual core extreeeeeeeeme? nothing wrong with your decision what so ever, just interested as to why thats all :-) Mayuri - yeah the GTX280 is the one i was referring to, might see if that comes down somewhat in the future..... I have now sold my skyline so instead of modding the line the modding will be done to the pc :-) I was about to clock my cpu then realised my 480wat psu that comes with the case aint going to take much more, so am going to get corsair psu plus a nice little fan lcd controller for the front of the case. Also talking about gfx cards my friend recently clocked his, clocked the mhz on it but recons he didnt really get much diffference, is there a lot to be had clocking gfx cards or should clocking just stick with the main cpu of the system ie dual core. I read your thread before and they had recommend clocking the gfx card even had a link for a prog that assisted in clocking it for you.
  16. I have seen that there is a new range of Nvidia GEforce cards as well.... somthing like GX2 series.... for like $800!!?? is this because of DDR5 RAM? bugger and i thought my 9800GTX was good but looks like the world of gaming is still going strong, just as you buy something good it becomes outdated :-)
  17. ahahah @ midlife hmmm yeah that will be slightly better than your old one. I have the Asus 22inch, very nice monitor and different built in displays such as game setting, theatre setting etc. Wow dual 8800GT's can you let me know then if you can go to ultra high settings on Crysis with those graphics capabilities as I am trying to determine if it is graphics or cpu chewing that Crysis does? Glad you have a got a high power PSU 750 watt should be enough :-) Also the word on the street that the next big game is Mass effect, its meant to be like the old star wars knights of the old republic but this thing is a cpu eater so you must have some decent systems to run it. Hmmm so as Driver said its going to be a hard toss up between playing diablo 1 or mass effect.... back to diablo 1 click click click click click click click goes mouse button 1.
  18. WOW JOE!!! What a blast from the past!! Mate make sure you let me know when your back in Perth! I still have SLY, well just, she is now for sale! Hope things are going well for you and pleeeeeease stay safe!! great to hear from you and great to know your still alive!
  19. Sorry just to state again, let them do the chasing around, if it is their clients fault and they are the cause of the accident as per the police investigation, it is their (insurance company) responsibility to find the exact match or nearest item. have a search on the net though and if you see any business that does sell the exact match point them in that direction.
  20. Hopefully i can pay you back for all of your computer info Ok so the deal is you are meant to have parts replace to an equal value, so the most important this is what is the "value" of the wheel? you may have to speak to the insurance company about it. DO NOT DEAL WITH THE SMASH REPAIR COMPANY FOR REPLACEMENT, LET THE ASSESOR KNOW WHO WORKS FOR THE INSURANCE COMPANY, let them sort out the costs etc but it is very important the assesor from the insurance company knows EXACTLY what is going on and the costs associated as the smash repiar company can very quickly get a new wheel worth $800 for example and the insurance company say "oh but we were only convering the wheel for up to $400" so you now owe the smash repair company $400 for an unmatched wheel!! Now generally lets say your window got smashed but the only window they could find the closest was bright pink! they generally have to find an exact match or in the interest of customer service they should really replace the lot. Trust me WHINGE and complain enough and they should try to assist! take names and dates. Also the word on the street is Miss Petepie works for an insurance company (keep that on the hush hush so no one annoys her) but i recon if you ask her nicely and impress her with your computing skills she maybe able to talk to a colleague to get all that verified. My bro is now a cop plus i now personal train two of em so sometimes if i ask them nicely while making them cry on their 12th lat raise about an issue i normally get a full legal rundown. Leave it with me as one of them is one of our local friendly highway policeman that you see in the funky cars :-) so he may also have a bit of a rundown.
  21. Awww the raybrig NSX!! definately *FWAP* worthy!! So who won?????
  22. ahahahaahaahahah!!! ROFL!! ahhaahaha that is very true but for some reason Diable and Titan Quest have been the most addictive games I have ever played! level 53 in titan quest took some time!! pretty much EXACTLY the same games by titan quest had newer graphics :-) back to click click click click click click click clicking i go, oh and Crysis!
  23. Such a poser you are in the 1st pic! any pics of the nsx's? did Corey wet himself over them? Well put me down for next year then Iz! P.S. this saturday night make sure ya free!
  24. Mayuri you are an absolute champ! Love the link you sent through but your write up is a lot more "English Friendly" I am thinking now in about a month when the cpu has been used enough to know that its all ok, of doing the OCing through BIOS, just clock it say two steps, indoing so as you said clocking the cpu and the RAM would be nice! With my 9800GTX card at the installation stage it actually has an option to OC which might make things quite easy. The reason why i have now strongly considered OCing is in installing applications on windows vista such as AVG anti virus, adaware, File Size tree etc a lot of these applications are running in the back ground. When playing crysis at 1600 x 1200 resolution on High settings with 2x anti alias there was never any hesitations, however now there seems to be a bit of a delay in high speed movements. It seems the more apps installed the more things are running in the background, therefore slowing some things down. needless to say i either have to stop my addiction in downloading small apps or OC my cpu and gfx :-) Just a heads up for all of you Windows XP fans, my PC has 4GB, VISTA IDLES AT 29% so just over 1.1 GB of RAM is being used just idling and that is off a brand new fresh PC. Just from that my advice is, if you are getting Windows Vista, play it safe and get 4GB RAM.
  25. Awesome!!! where did you get your system from? have you started clocking yours yet? everything is running on high mode in crysis and 2 times anti alias setting..... so i am now wondering after only 5 days how much i can clock the cpu and the gfx card to make it run even better :-) Any good websites for me and MADGT4 to clock our pcs with?
