Could you explain to me Starionturbo how drifting with tyres that have little grip at slow speeds causes you to crash. Are you sure the drivers aren't try hard kids in thier auto's N/A's in industrial estates. I know there are a lot of them out there. I've met a lot of them selling parts. From all of my driving experience it is a lot easier to get a car sideways at low speeds and hold it with hard smaller tyres and low profile. Are you saying that you could drift better with 275mm wide semi comps compared to stretched 195mm wide hard old tyres in a r33 pressumably stockish r33. Also if you need good rubber why do the drifters stretch 235mm tyres over 10inch rims and why do they sit the tyres on the roofs of buildings to let the go hard? Only the good guys use good tyres with grip in high powered cars. Not learners! Good tyres snap back on decelleration to harsly for a learner. It just seems that most drifters are talkers and seem to think thier D1 drivers. We have some really good genuinely capable drifters in our club and this is only my opinion of other people I've met. Your thoughts please....

Go put the hardest smallest width and profile tyres you can fit on the rear of your car and go have some fun. I've done it a few times and I think you'll find most of the people knocking it have never tried it or can't do it. The first time was fun on hard tyres but with the second time there with sem'i the car gripped to much after the first run. Circuit is more fun for me but as you say you just want to learn car control drift is slower and therefore your less likely to hit something. Go give it a go. If you just want to go for a thrash Calder isn't to bad. Apart from a few guys everybody there are just hacks. Just don't drift under the bridge. Good luck with it.

I had no idea where that cone came from. Thanks for clearing it up.

Also after watching the Red Bull Air Race on sunday. It had nothing on DECA! It just looked like they only had bigger cones?

Thanks for another great day to all involved. I know what its like standing out in the sun all day as a volunter and I can't thank you all enough. Looks like I'll have to drag out Riverdance for the next big shep night. Seeing all those photos made me laugh. Man you guys and girls must have had a ball. If only I was there so Stevo many have coped some duct tape treatment. A kind of one off SAU initiation, plus it would have made it easier for Juz to mace him! Only joking Steve, its alway easier to hang shit on the new guy. Emts your a champion. Everyone's a fan of thier car. Its always great to have some footage so I can show work and mates what we get up to.

I believe I don't have enough rear brake bias. After a whole day at the track there was hardly any rear pad dust and I'm only running el cheapo pads. I think it is time for a big bleed first. I put the abs back in and bled it but maybe in needs some more bleeding. What you are saying makes sense. It could help stop a little of the weight transfer to the front and there for take some weight of the front tyres. Good idea. I have never had a problem with the rears locking. One of the really quick Vic guys drives his car fast by braking a little later into the apex to unsettle the rear of the car so he can drive out fast without power understeer. And he is fast! There is no way of putting more rear bias into a gtr though unless you change the master cylinder right? Anyway I won't be doing this. Hopefully some good pads will sort this area out. Keep your suggestion and opinions coming in. All of your tried knowledge is better than my theory's atm. What is the general time increase with running semi's over average street tyres? Am I right in guessing 2-3 secinds a lap on a 1.30ish circuit?

And Bunta's GTST was super cool. I wish my old one looked as goo as that.

I was about to park the car when I came up with the great idea of jamming a fire blanket down the front of the firewall. It was a little riska but I had driven all that way and to just sit there. I couldn't bare it so Nige and I went to the hardware store. I found my fireblanket and Nige did his dual gatorade bottle breather mod. It managed to hold up for the rest of the day although the blanket began smoke a little. They wouldn't really be 32's if there wasn't something backyard in them. The sideways action is getting a little harder in the gtr with the 4wd actually working and better susp. I'd still like to have a go at a drift night with rock hard stretched 215's on it all round with the extra power. I give all of my credit to my new found wang. It slowed my speed down enough down the straight so my brakes didn't cook and did nothing noticable in the corners so the car handled as it alway did. Shit happens Troy. Just begin dreaming of what you could be doing to your car before next year. Keep the RWD alive!

The car has some circuit valved shocks from sydneykid. It could possibly do with some softer springs for the street tyres but I don't really know. Chris told me that after racepace put a lot extra caster into snowys car it made it handle like his. But I think they actually move the castor mount position on the chassis and modify cusco upper mounts. This is what I understood from my conversation. When I asked Chris all he knew was that if you give RP $800 to adjust the suspension they'll make a r33 gtr handle awesome. The car is the best handling car I have owned to date now but I know there are a few little things I could do to make it go quicker around corners. I know if I braked harder and linked all of the corners together right in one lap it could have done a 1.50ish time but I'm still learning how to drive gtrs. I have all the power I need for a reliable engine. I bought some spacers from UAS to run 324mm rotors and some ds3000 pads so the suspension is the only thing I need to correct to make the car do the times I want out of it. I just wanted to know if anybody has run with toe in and then gone to go out and what was the result in how the car handled.
-
I tried going into corners later but I was also going slower. I'm after overall increased corner speed. I agree with the street tyres but they have to do until they run out of tread. I don't want to run more caster and risk uni lives and as for running the rear bar stiffer I think it would just make the car slide in the rear more on accel out of corners and not really improve turn in. It felt good when on full power out of corners but I had to brake really late into the corner to make the rear unsettle and them gas it really hard. I want a more balanced package. If it didn't understeer into the corner it should be setup right for the way out.

F**K YEH! Thanks to all that organised this. I had a great time, it was just so layed back for the last week and so much fun. I'd definantly be up for one of these trips again. For those of you who didn't come because your cars weren't perfect your really missed out, big time! No one really worried to much about super fast times it was all just about having a good time. To the NSW guys who turned up your all great people and you made our visit even more enjoyable. Hope to see you around next time we come up or you come down. Briz I almost had my car catch on fire. It turned out to be and exhaust leak blowning onto the firewall blanket and the car filled with smoke. Two sessions after Nige had the same issue but it was his big ass hot turbo. As for who has the bigger dick. I see it as a bang for buck vs times. If you have a car like mine on street tyres with stock brakes and a/m suspension +290kw and I run 4-6 seconds a lap slower than everybody else then it a good thing. I know there is at least 2-3 seconds in my car as it is currently with the current suspension setup properly and me not being a hack driver. Hell if your unexperienced how else ae you going to go quicker than having practice. I could buy $1600 worth tyres, 4k brakes, 3k on more power, and 1k on suspension being setup proffensionally but I'm almost happy with what I've now got. I'd almost consider getting a cams half cage to run cheapo used slicks if there under $500 set. People loose sight of what their happy with and what they want. You don't have to match the fast guys if you don't have a $40k-$100k car. If your happy just drive it! Unless everybody has the same cars with the same everything there is no point comparing times really. Shit and giggles is what its all about for me! Just go out and do your best with what you brought and from now on take it home in one piece!

I missed out getting an alignment before heading up to NSW due to work. I just did the trak day at wakefield and had massive understeer problems as the car just wouldn't turn in at all. I lowered the car at Wakefield 5mm on front strut and 10mm on rear strut and the car seemed a lot more settled at the end of the straight. Also backing the front swaybar off one notch from hardest helped. I had an alignment after and found out that the car was all over the place. For example rear toe +5.8 and -1.7mm. This was the third time driving the gtr and first time with non blown stock lowered shocks. I know I have heaps to learn about driving at the tracks but I have a quick question after reading through a old Beer Barron thread. The end result is got were after alignment: front camber: 3.5 deg neg. Good for EC and PI but would be to much for most tracks I guess. front caster: 5 degrees front toe: -0.5mm each side rear camber: 2 deg neg. This was to much for even EC. Will set it to -1.5deg and try that. rear toe: +1mm each side front sway bar: one off hardest (mine is the 3 hole type)22mm rear sway bar: medium (also 3 hole type) The car handled a lot better at EC and I could hold a lot more corner speed but the car just understeered a little to much and had bad turn in. I know my tyres are at least 2.5 year old falken rt215's and lack grip. The best hand timed lap I got was a flat 1.52 and I know there would easily be a flat 1.48-1.49 in there if the car could carry a little more corner speed with the current tyres/brakes. Still have to measure ride hieght after I empty the car out. Question is will increasing the toe out front and rear to 2mm each side help turn in and corner grip.

I'm not a NSWist but what the go with your pubs up there. Last time I came up there was no hussle at the bars. You all lined up in straight lines and waited patiently for your beers. Where is your hunger for the necture. I hope you all get more rowdy on the track than you do in the pubs. Middies, scooners? What are they? All us southerners know is pint. Gimme a pint boss!. Not excuse me sir, could I please have a middy of beer with a slice of lemon. WTF Toughen up princesses you'll be hanging out with real men soon. We'll hold your hands and show you how to drive faster than your mums. I know what going on. Your cars aren't broken. Your just scared. Its all right we'll be easy on you. Enough hecling. Seriously, see you all soon. Can't wait to get up there and have some fun and drinks with all of you whilest were up.

Thanks Snowy. It'll the good to get back into it again. I bought a book on driving the other month (going faster) that expains how to brake, enter and accelerate out of corners and how to approach diferent lines. It makes sense but I haven't tried any of it yet. I've been doing it wrong all this time I found out thou. As for my no holding back driving style it may have to stop soon. I want some fast times finally. Maybe I'm getting old. Reading books and talking sensible. Whats going on? Also I might have to consult the NSW thread to re-educate myself no how to tackle the pubs. From last time I was there I remember something about lining up in straight lines at the bar and middies?

This trip is going to be chaos. Had the car tuned and it was found that cam gears were out one tooth and it only made 170rwkw with the pfc which untuned ran better than the stock ecu. I now I have 292rwkw so its going to be heaps more fun and also it will be my first track day with the 4wd working and good suspension. Only two more days until the adventure begins peoples, f--k yeh! Beer and power. What more could you want?

Finally got the car reg'd today. A massive relief after a year and a half. Might be able to call myself a real skylines driver instead of a carport racer. Goes in tomorrow for the tune. Can't wait. Could have been more excited but I am to tight ass to buy some new tyres and pads at the moment so that can wait until next year. Not long now. Don't forget your fold up chairs. They come in very handy and are alway forgotten.

Where do you go about finding the older hillclimb/race cars? You got me searching youtube and I found this for you. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vma_y8dccr4
